Refreshing to see real time transformation. I get so disheartened when RU-vid creators completely renovate their house (after gutting it) in a year or less which just isn't realistic for most people ❤ absolutely love your content ❤

I've had my first house for 3 years and I always think "I wish I had a third bedroom, a garage and a utility room" but my house is perfect for 2 people and since it's smaller, it's less to clean and quicker to heat up in the winter. Truth is, you're never going to be 100% satisfied but it teaches you to live within your means/finances and to not get carried away trying to do what everyone else is doing.
@jmk1962

Truth. London prices are astronomical compared to the rest of the country so it does limit the amount of cash left to do major works.

I totally feel this. My house is pretty small but I've gotten used to it and appreciate the much reduced cleaning time. I just ignore or try to improve what I can but it's never gonna be perfect I just don't have the money for that shit.

Personally I would keep the bath. You really miss them when you don't have one and I think its more attractive for buyers when you decide to sell on one day.

If you are thinking of sorting the wardrobes, ones that go up to the ceiling are a life changer! Having a shelf at the top gives a bit more storage and it stays inside the wardrobe so you don’t see it when the wardrobe door is closed x

Hi Lucy, great video. I love how realistic this is and no pressure to anyone who watches it. About the bathroom layout and the responses on instagram: it sounds like you want a walk in shower more than a bath. Like you said, this house is probably going to be for a couple anyway, so having a bath there for baby purposes isn't necessary needed. Babies can also be washed in the basin if it's deep enough or in a separate little baby bath that could be put on the floor in the shower. I would go with your gut feeling in the end. Make the space your own, this house will be sold easily with or without a bath when the time comes because of its location and the fact that it's a full house in London. Love from the Netherlands!

And about the front door: would isolation strips work to make it more snug for the time being? Also helps with the heater bill when it gets cold again
@shirleydunn8050

Lucy you can buy self adhesive draught excluding foam strips which would be a cheap fix for your front door.

You've come SO far since 6 months ago!!! You've got your living room and bedroom sorted, the kitchen is spruced up and the rest is not just livable, but "very nice thank you very much" so I mean BIG brownie points!!! Suggestions; - switch out the doorknobs on your wardrobes to gold ones that'll match your vibe - if feeling funky, paint the accents on the wardrobe door in the same pink as your pink wall - get a tall heated towel rail in the bathroom (they're SO nice in winter omg) and fairly cheap (comparatively) to do AND they're great for storing extra towels and extra hanging space Persoanlly I'd keep the same layout of the bathroom (cheaper, less can go wrong) but get a walk in shower if you're not a bath person. I miss having a bath about 5 times a year but then remind myself that I am so prone to lady problems that mixing a bathbomb with that is probably going to mess me up for like 2 weeks so no, let's just have a nice toasty shower and put everything on the radiator 👍 HOWEVER don't skimp on shower space, I have one that's teeny tiny and I would love a bigger shower but we're renting so we deal with it. It's why I love going to hotels cos they have luxurious 1m square or bigger shower trays and waterfall shower heads 😍

The best thing about your home content is exactly how realistic it is. We were also talking about extensions and all sorts of grand plans when we first moved in and 7 months later our priorities have changed and we're actually pretty happy with it as it is.

I feel like the tiny bathroom lends itself more to being a wet room walk in shower kinda thing, it’s nice to have a bath but the space you’d get with just having a shower would make it more practically useable

Bit of a random suggestion but have you considered a conservatory/ sun room rather than a kitchen extension? Would give you a place to work/ eat and maybe add to the value by increasing the living area. Sort of over the bathroom/ backdoor so that you still have a view of the garden from the kitchen window? Maybe an idea for down the line 😊
@anna-maymoon1001

Oh also for kitchen ideas - tiny house tours are amazing for coming up with really neat cabinetry design - I saw one where they had drawers in the kick board and put their baking trays in there and other awkward bits.

We've been in our house almost a year and we did almost nothing in the first six months. I think we had changed 1 ceiling fan and gotten new kitchen appliances and that's it. The next 6 months are I think are where the biggest changes happen. Now that you know what the house is like and how you live in it, it's way easier to know what you want.

Hi Lucy, love your content. You are so natural and beautiful. We moved the boiler into a cupboard up stairs, it gave us so much more room. The boiler cupboard was also fitted with bespoke shelves to fit all our linens in. The wardrobes I'd extend to the ceiling, more storage for you. After you've done your boiler I'd do your loft, board it out put a light in and some low free standing shelves ,then you'd have toned of storage which would help your spare room to be less cluttered and then you'd be able to do the floor, get a zip plastic door it will contain all the dust for you. Sorry to woffle on. We still live in our small house after 22 years and had a daughter. So space is tight but it works and we love all the small changes we've done. Keep up the lovely work ❤

It's so refreshing to see someone do renovations at a normal pace! I think your house looks fab. In terms of bathroom, get a shower if you want a shower - no point worrying about people in the future, the house will deffo sell will how nice you've made it

if u get a carpenter to come in for the wardrobes i would get then to take the wardrobes all the way up to the celing by just addinf extra wood / doors, it will make the place feel bigger and help it flow, the eye wont get distracted with dark gaps, and it can add a little bit more storage

I bought my house little 2bed house 2 years ago now, after all my pinterest boards and "insta home" ideas that I had dreamed.I have painted exactly two rooms 😂 working as a HCA doing 12hr nightshifts doesnt help and with no time off during lockdown either. But I love my little home, it has loads of potential but who has the time money... What you've achieved is beautiful and I always tell my husband- it's our forever home so it doesnt matter how long it takes xxxx

Painting the kitchen tile and the entry could be a real option! There's so many RU-vid tutorials, and companies have made things so DIY friendly. It'll mostly boil down to giving the floor an extra good clean and rolling on a new color. It always transforms the space so much more than people seem to anticipate!

I bet you could swap out your upper and lower cabinets on the right side of your stove for slim ones (IKEA!) so you could get your fridge in there! Because your countertops are wood, cutting them back a bit wouldn’t be impossible! I love the house content, it is so relatable! You’re my favorite of all time 🙌🏻
@nicolegreaves3282
@nicolegreaves3282 4 года назад
You've had to deal with a gass leak too! I do think that prioritising things you need to do is just the way forward I mean the house would be no good if you woke up because the ceiling is dripping or you've set the house on fire because of a gas leak! But I think you've made the house very cosy and homely anyway! Good job guys! 😍😘❤

I love your cute house! We bought ours a year ago and still have so much to do, I had such great plans until I realised enough paint for one room costs like £70. 😂 I also think your bathroom would feel much bigger just with a shower, I don’t have a bath and it’s fine!
@jackib12391
@jackib12391 4 года назад
I would keep the bath you might regret it once it's gone. Maybe switch the toilet and the sink around that could give a bit more space and possibly adding a sliding door rather than it opening inwards. Loving the progress, we've been in our first flat for nearly a year and only painted 2 rooms. X

I would for sure go with the walk-in shower. Maybe when you redo your kitchen, you can do a big farmhouse sink, if you like that style. The big sink could serve as a tub for anyone with a baby or toddler (for resale value). My other advice is that you should name your front door "Moaning Myrtle"!

I absolutely loved this video. As someone who is currently saving to buy a house this calmed me so much. Your house is beautiful! Bathroom suggestion: as much as not having a bath is so sad a walk in shower all down the bottom wall of the bathroom with some cute tiles would be gorgeous! (I know it’s only a small detail but I highly recommend black shower heads and taps they are a game changer)
@natatatt
@natatatt 4 года назад
Just to chime in on the bathroom question, I agree with some of the other comments that you should go with a walk-in shower since that's what you want. But perhaps you could also install a larger window? I know that's another large expense, but it would bring in more natural light, which I sorely miss in my window-less bathroom.
@xLittleTinGoddessx

Having moved into our first home in February, I can say that I totally agree with you! I was so ready to decorate when we first moved in that each month would be purchase after purchase. Savings and wages depleted. Now, possibly due to working from home since March, I’ve decided there’s no rush at all and no one has been able to visit anyway *shrug* I think just getting it to the point of living in it and it being safe is good enough for now. I do love your style and have definitely taken some inspiration from it, so kudos. Hope you and Adam (and Flo) are safe and well xxx

I wouldnt worry abouth the bath/toddler issue. Its absolutely no problem to use a foldable baby bath. My 3 year old still uses one. We have never had a bath. I would love to have one though (for me! 3yo is totally happy with his foldable one...)
@jmk1962
@jmk1962 4 года назад
Kitchen re-furb :- If you are not extending your kitchen and new boiler is going upstairs, you could put your fridge in the alcove where your ikea trolley is. You would have to lose the wall cupboard and the small under counter cupboard to do this, but if you are replacing the cupboards anyway, this shouldn't be a problem and at least you get a fridge in the kitchen. You could scrape the grout out between all of the floor tiles (massively time consuming unless you use an angle grinder 🙁) and regrout the whole lot for a uniform colour/look if you are going to keep them. If you get a new combi boiler you will be amazed at how much more efficient it is and how your bills will reduce, so although it costs a lot it will be worth it if you are staying put for a few years. Bathroom walk in shower would be great if you are not planning on having any babies, but if you are, where would you bath a baby/toddler? Just something to bear in mind. Boarding loft - You could possibly use the loft as an office which would free up the second bedroom as a guest room/filming room/overflow dressing room. If you're doing the loft on the cheap, ie just boarding and sticking a light up there, it is fine to use as a office, but building regs would not permit it to be used for sleeping in without a proper fixed stairs which your landing does not allow for. Sorry for all the thoughts, but I am an architectural technician and I can't help myself.

Plastic sth baby bath? I am not a mother or expert but i thought that this is a thing? Lots of my friends have only walking showers because of the lack of space and they have a proper families with kids and dogs and it works 🤷🏼‍♀️ nobody ever speaks about that kids=bath. But I am no expert here just sain, maybe there is a problem? Do kids really needs a big proper bath? 🤔

I think from the layout/style of the house (end of the row, relatively shallow pitch roof) and what Lucy says, the attic space is full of joists so there isn't any open space that could be used as a 'room' it will likely just be an very small amount of space immediately around the loft hatch, so they are just going to lay some boards down between the joists to store bits on. (Lucy if you don't have to store things in the loft, don't, as you fill it, forget about it and then just have to clear it out later 😉)
@olbird7647
@olbird7647 4 года назад
The fridge is too wide for the space where it was meant to be (where the ikea trolley is) hence it living in the front room! It could go in the boiler space and free up some room for a drop-leaf/small dining table. Might jut into the kitchen a bit until it's re-done but i'm sure they could cope with that!
@ThePosiu
@ThePosiu 4 года назад
Now it's not a problem to bathe a baby in a walk in shower. You just buy a kids bath on legs. Most of my friends do that and it's actually more convenient cause your back doesn't hurt that much cause you can adjust the hight and everything. I'm also planning to do that once the baby shows up 😊

Love watching your house videos! Me and my bf brought our first house around the same time as you so it's been great following what you and Adam do to yours and the challenges you have come up against. Felt your pain with the sanding videos! I would say keep a bath in the bathroom, you won't use the extra floor space in a bathroom for anything and it's nice to have the option of a bath in winter. Also, if you ever sell, a bath is key for a lot of people with young kids. For the built in wardrobe I would take it all the way to the ceiling so you don't have to clean in the high up gap and it leaves a nice full length wall feeling. Looking great and really pleased for you guys!

What someone did in a house I saw is they actually ripped out half their loft space in their master bed and opened it up and had a higher ceiling with velux skylights. It looks amazing, also they added on a en-suite in their master bed by going over the hallway and into the second bed (Same layout as yours - it’s great)

Lots of people get rid of their tubs, but in our family, they've been really useful for when someone is injured or ill and a shower is too hard for them to do (or there's a cast or bandage that can't get wet). Plus, ours is deep enough that when life is overwhelming, a good bath bomb and a few minutes of leisurely peace is totally rejuvenating.

I love how realistic your renovations are! Having bought my house 2 years ago I haven't got half the stuff done that I planned to, and expensive things keep coming up that delay my decorating plans. On the surface it might look like I've not done much to the house, but when I look back on old pictures from rightmove or when I first moved in, I realise how much I have done and am really proud. I much prefer to watch someone do their house up slow and steady then watch someone with seemingly endless money get the entire house stripped out and redone in one fell swoop. I always think as well, better to go slow because you'll find as you live in the space your initial ideas will change and you'll be glad you didn't rush into any big changes. :) Sending lots of love!

Paint the grout white everywhere if you really like it and want the floor to look that across the whole space. For the wardrobes - easiest way to update those would be to take off the cornicing across the top and extend up to the ceiling. It’ll give more neat storage space and stop there being a dust collection zone on top (it’s my pet peeve!). I have wondered if a short length bath would fit into that bathroom at the end - opening up the space along the long wall for toilet, sink and storage?! We are looking into possibly swapping out our oversized one for a small one in a weird alcove in our bathroom as at the moment we stand up off the toilet into a sloping roof and we’d like to move away from that!

Love the update, it’s really nice to see what you’ve done so far and what ideas you have going forward. That downstairs bathroom would make a great wet room. It’s definitely too small for a bath which is a shame if you’re a bath kind of person. Love the sofa bed idea for the spare room too, we’re thinking of doing the same with our spare room, a full bed in there at the moment and it just feels like we’re wasting the space x

We have a tiny bathroom which we recently renovated and were toying with the idea of having a shower only. We decided against it and I'm so glad we did. However, if you feel that you can live without a bath, have you considered splitting your spare bedroom up and putting a small shower room in there? That way, you could extend the kitchen into the bathroom space and also have a downstairs toilet which would increase your home value.

My partner and I also moved into our first house 6 months ago, on the 3rd of January, from a one bedroom flat and everything you said about feeling the need to get everything done in the first five minutes rang so true! We did quite a bit of decorating in the first three months but have definitely slowed waaay down now. Just appreciating the space and the feeling that it's all ours - I bet you're feeling the same as us; relieved that we got into the house just before lockdown! Congratulations on your beautiful home! :) xx

Maybe before you like redo the wardrobe in the bedroom, you can try out some new door knobs and maybe do a little bit of a new paint job to it. I think that can help it a lot, and might be more cost effective than getting whole new doors for it 💕

The fireplace bookshelf is so cute! Also, I am low key terrified to graduate uni and become an 'adult' but these vlogs make me feel a lot calmer. Thank you!

I bought a house a few months before you did and understand totally the comparison trap! Had to step away from Pinterest and Instagram and it reminded me how much I love our little house. Appreciate the honesty, the advice of patience is perfect. I think I needed reminding of that too! Love your style 😊

Omg this is so helpful. As someone who wants to buy a house as priority. I never considered how what I might want to change would differ once I’d lived there. This is eyeopening thank you. Also knowing about the boiler and bathroom dilemma etc all of that is so useful. Thank u for sharing!

I think you've been very sensible in the way you have tackled your move & although you think its a work in progress you and Adam have created a home. Its cosy and pretty and you should be very proud of how far you've come in such a short period of time and during a global pandemic! ❤

I absolutely love your home renovations. It seems the essence of "average girl re-does the house!" It makes us feel that we're not failures because of how long our house jobs are taking! This video is very satisfying, seeing everything before and after.

Just an idea - I'd talk to your local real estate agent about the value of keeping the bath for resale value. When we were going through the same process as you we were told that having a bath was really important for resale value as couples with young children need a bath for their kids. Im not sure if that is the case in your area but it might be worth looking into. Love what you are doing with your home so far - it looks awesome!

I absolutely loveeee your house updates and 100% agree with other vloggers making out it's realistic to get your whole house renovated when u move in. People change their minds! We've lived in our house nearly four years and decided move our living room in to our master bedroom to make a bigger family and social dining room area, we and sleep in the office now which is small but perfect as we just sleep in it! I love our new snug living room and it's on the top floor so it's so private and it's ours. Glad we didn't do major decorating until now otherwise it would have been a waste.

I'm glad the roof is now sorted, I was wondering if you'd got it done. I've been in my house for nearly 3 years and I'm still doing things, changing things & discovering new things in the garden. Loving what you've done so far & big well done for living in it and getting a feel that is completely the realistic thing to do, doing everything immediately on moving in isn't financially realistic for 99% of people or realistic for knowing what you need/want to do to make it suitable for you, you need to get that feel for it. The main thing is that it works as it is, things don't have to be changed to work, just to improve it.

Omg hun, this video got me as I'm currently trying to do up my place. It takes forever and it's so easy to forget about the real-time & real cost of doing up a house for the average person. I bought my house 2 years ago, similar to you, small 2 bed 1930s, and it needs loads doing still. I chose to focus on the kitchen & bathroom first though so now my living room and bedroom can frustrate me a lot. I LOVE your living room, it's so cozy and well styled, defo got some Inso so thank you. Time has gone super fast and it is hella expensive to renovate. Oh and I've got questionable ceilings also haha very typical of older English terraced houses I've noticed. Also I have an even smaller kitchen than you, it was the first room I did up and caused me so much stress trying to fit everything into the space drove me bananas. Bathroom was easier but equally, smallest room in the house. Get some graph paper and just keep redrawing and re-planning those small rooms over and over before you commit to it.

Hi, we’ve been in our house for 5 years and in November we took the plunge and ditched the bath. I think the room looks very similar to yours,perhaps slightly smaller.same sloping ceilings I used to love long soaks with wine, but trust me it doesn’t compare to the feeling that I get every time I walk into the bathroom. We installed a fantastic shower and a clear glass panel with a low profile tray. Walk-in shower on a budget. Just don’t forget the bath mat😆 I’m so glad we did it . Good luck with whatever comes next.
