Technically it's Auto Union C type. Audi was part of Auto Union along with DKW, Wanderer and Horch.
@joshuasimons7883
@joshuasimons7883 5 лет назад
I could be wrong but I think that the car brand audi didn't exist at this time. It was called Horch like you said. After the war they changed their name since they didn't want to get associated with the nazi regime. Audi is litarraly the Latin word for the German word Horch/Höre which means hear in English.
@Sp4mMe
@Sp4mMe 5 лет назад
@@joshuasimons7883 No, it was basically an early IP issue. Horch had left his own Horch company, and now needed a new name for his new company. So he picked Audi, which, yes, means the same. Then Horch and Audi both ended up as part of Auto Union. And after the war it was Auto Union that was re-founded, Audi (sometime later) being one of their brands again. Of course, they first got mostly bought up by Daimler-Benz and then later entirely by VW, so except for a brief period they never were independent again.

@@sheikhmoonisable you don't know why it's bad? How old are you?
@corvettefever360
@corvettefever360 5 лет назад
It's ridiculous, because the swastika is a Hindu religious symbol, and shouldn't be erased from history cuz the nazis essentially stole it. Regardless, the nazis were also a part of history, and also can't just be erased either. And regardless of what the symbol was used for, it is utterly ridiculous to be so over offended by any symbol! Regardless of how terrible it may have been! Doing so only gives power to the negative meaning. Also people need to stop with this over sensitive bs, real talk too. It ends up sounding more like an excuse to whine & milk it to get self pity. Can a symbol, or whatever anyone else says actually hurt you? No! Not unless you choose for it too! Remember that the world didn't get to where it is, or reach the levels of knowledge & technology from being a bunch of over sensitive cry babies. These adversities make us stronger, and if it doesn't kill us, we only get even stronger!

Someone told me that the Ford Anglia was discontinued because it was too reliable. So, repair garages weren't making much money from them. Yeah, very money orientated. Yet, the VW Beetle was also very reliable, and that lasted for more than 70 years. I guess it depends on individual cases, circumstances, etc. For instance the Ford Anglia is American, and the USA is very money orientated.

Rosemayer died during a "land speed competition" between "Auto Union" not Audi ;) ( Auto Union was a union out of 4 Car factorys. Audi, Horch, DKW and Wanderer. Audi is the last survivor. The "Audi emblem" originaly symolized one Ring for each factory) and Mercedes, on the "Autobahn" A5 near Frankfurt. Rosemayers car was hit by a wind gust. At this point he had reached a speed of 266,87 mph or 429,49 kmh. Rosemayer tried to beat the record set by his fellow driver Rudolf Caracciola, who took the record one hour earlier that morning. Caracciola (Mercedes) was able to reach a Topspeed of 271,47 mph or 436,89 kmh The Record was set on 28th, Januar 1938. Until today 436,89 kmh remains the fastest speed, ever driven on public road. I would say, well done ;) RIP Bernd Rosemayer

Great vid! But none of the cars are considered "unheard of" by any car enthusiast. You would litteraly have to have never even looked up the history of cars to have never heard of Duesenburgs or the Auto union cars or the Tucker 48, nevermind the Legendary 959. In the 80s that car was in the cover of every car mag. Sidenote: Nazis are not Facist. They are Socialist. Fascism was Mussolini's thing. Unlike socialism, the government didn't take over the the means of production. They just told you how you were going to run it.

Mercedes-Benz also had a record car. The W125 Rekordwagon. This car, with Caracciola driving, actually set the record about an hour earlier that Rosemeyer and Auto-Union were attempting to beat. The Auto-Union's first pass was not fast enough to beat the Mercedes speed. Their second run was the fatal accident where Rosemeyer was tragically killed. Development of disc brakes began in England in the 1890s. The first caliper-type automobile disc brake was patented by Frederick William Lanchester in his Birmingham factory in 1902 and used successfully on Lanchester cars.

The 959's second turbo was almost essentially just to reach a higher top speed. It spools up at 7500RPM and the engine had an 8000RPM redline, so its usefulness was very limited.

The Porsche 959 had a coefficient of drag of 0.31 not 0.13. 0.13 would make it the most drag efficient car ever produced by some way

One thing i can tell you about the holden hurricane is that it only ended up as a prototype but holden was actually going to put the car into production and i know that as my grandpa worked at holden and put his signature down to get the car once it was put into production, so he would have been the first person in the world to own the first production holden hurricane

Just to clarify, up to this day, there are several theories as to why Rosenmeyer was killed in the Auto Union Streamline C. The most accepted one is that he caught a transversal gust of wind while traveling at over 240 mph. The stretch of road was completely straight and when the car caught the gust, it traveled to the right and Rosenmeyer wasn't able to control it. It careened down the shoulder of the road to some woods and there Rosenmeyer was killed. There's a monument in the stretch of Autobahn where he lost his life. (Edit) That day, it was a gloomy, clouded day in January and Rosenmeyer was in fact competing against Rudolf Caracciola and his Mercedes. Both complained about the weather and the possibility of wind gusts, but went on ahead to break the land record.

Well, the Holden Hurricane was new to me. The Tucker had lots of problems. People who own the few remaining examples store them on blocks because otherwise the rubber-in-torsion springs sag, and they start them in second gear because the electronic transmission/clutch system crunches the non-synchro first gear. Also, the car undoubtedly oversteers a lot with so much rear percentage and four equal size tires, but it's so hard to just keep them running that this has escaped public attention. They do look nice, though.

The 959 was also a financial flop because the group B rally class was cancelled right after the car was completed.

You forgot to mention the tucker 48 had a helicopter engine, with pretty unique safety features such as seatbelts and shatter proof glass along with the cyclops light. It was one of the first rear engine cars I think but I'm not completely sure.

Nice Video. I would like to see Mercedes W 125 rekordwagen on the list. It is, I think, still the faster car on the world which was driven on public roads with 432,7 km/h (270.44mp/h) and all that in 1939.

The American subcompact Crosley Hot Shot had four caliper disc brakes almost a decade before that in 1949. I do believe that there was an English brand called “Arnold” that had disc brakes in around 1895-1900, but I can’t remember if that was a production car or not. Lanchester cars used disc brakes in the early 20th century. Chrysler had a form of disc brakes in about 1950 that were really good for the top models. They were replaced with drums after 1954, I think. The Citroen DS is the first mass produced car with disc brakes.

A little fact checking might do you a bit of good. Disc brakes were first used on a Lanchester. Which is an English car. The Citroen is my favourite car, and cannot be praised highly enough.
