My boyfriend likes to sing for me during our late night phone calls. He is far from emotional and has never really verbally expressed how he feels, but I suspect he does som through singing. When he sings a song I love or just a song that makes me happy, I tell him specifically how that made me feel and how it feels in my body, and how much I appreciate it. We might have agreed to hang up after that song, but when I compliment him like that, he lights up and goes om singing more of the songs I love:) It's super cute:) I also once told him I adore how his eyes light up when he makes someone laugh. He really appreciated how I noticed a small, but significant detail:)

As women, sometimes it’s so hard to understand what a man is feeling, mainly because they don’t know how to verbalize it. I had no clue that men know about the smell thing! I NEED to love the way my man’s natural skin smells, my nose is very sensitive and extremely connected to my emotions. It’s great to know that expressing that is something that an emotionally healthy man will find sexy and activating.
I gave a lot of these compliments to a man that I dated awhile back. He would say, "well don't get used to that, I am not always going to do that"! Needless to say, Not dating him anymore! Lol
I gave my friend a compliment about how enjoyed cooking with him because he has good cooking techniques and he repeated the same compliment back to me. And thanked me for the compliment. Does this mean he wants more compliments or just being respectful?
What compliments do you give someone who you don't really know, however want to know? He's helped me with various things: I've told him I appreciate all he's helped me with. Thinking I like him, or would like to get to know him better. How to draw him in, that we might have the opportunity to get to know him better. It's been ages since I went out on a date, & in these strange times, just don't know how that works any more, does the man still do the asking? Is there a way I can lead him into thinking it is his idea to ask?

There is somethin deeper there. Similar to saying you can't love someone else if you don't love yourself. Perhaps a self esteem issue. I used to not like accepting gifts. Then someone explained it in other terms.... it makes me feel good to do thing for you or give you a gift. It works both ways. Maybe explain it this way. By complementing him you also get to feel good or by not believing you it's saying your opinion doesn't matter.

Hello Mat I subscribed a while back (from the UK) and I love listening to your videos. Its so sensible and authentic and open. Ive had my share of bad dates then went nowhere, but also where the guy comes in all guns blazing and I dont like the feeling of being pushed and overly pursued! Even if I really like him. Sometimes, I dont even realise I am falling for him or that what I have been saying and doing and kissing, has made him fall for me! Well, after listening to many videos I have realised where I went wrong, and indeed where I have accidentally/intuitively done it more than right! So, my question is this - he likes you, you like him but really it moved too fast which lowered your quality in his eyes I think, and then he has pulled away. So, do you have a video on when is a decent time scale to allow it to go up a level that doesnt scare either of you off? Or I suppose that is asking how long is a piece of string, what might be the markers or indicators that its ok and wont destroy what has so far been pretty good ? many thanks
Hi Mat, thanks for the useful info as always. I met a guy online long distance 4 hrs. we’ve been texting for more than 5mos. now. We have not met in person due to border closures. He only video chat on the 3rd mo.when I said I can’t text anymore if he doesn’t video call to confirm he is who he say he is. Until now he just texts. He says he’s not with anyone. What do you think?
This made me cry something shocking especially about the smell its the one thing I miss like crazy he smelt the most amazing ever its a smell like no other and yes I still sleep with his tops and even his military jacket I wear to bed at night just so I can feel him near me.

Tell him you really enjoy your time together, but at this stage in your life you feel you need to be focusing on more serious, emotionally rewarding relationships. Then pull back/no contact. If he starts to contact you, approach with your standards and boundaries clear in your mind, and assess if he's really interested in meeting you on your level and if you can begin fresh. If he doesn't try to reinitiate contact, let him go, it's not what your heart needs. ❤️
