Bro was possessed by the spirit of Mikhail Tal
@iiwi758

Shirov, indeed, studied under Tal (they're both from Riga). His book Fire on the Board is one of the most recommended by chess teachers for those interested in tactics. Another fun fact: back when Kasparov broke from FIDE and was organizing his own World Chess Championship, a 10-game match to decide who was going to be the challenger was played between Shirov and Kramnik. Shirov won that match, but then his match against Kasparov never happened for reasons not yet fully clear, even almost theree decades later. Kasparov blames his partner at the time, Luis Rentero, who was helping to organize and sponsor the event. The fact is that Shirov earned his title shot fair and square but was cheated out of it. In the end, Kramnik went on to play and beat Kasparov to become the World Champion, as we all know. Shirov didn't receive a dime in the whole ordeal.

@@dylanmartin2890checking the database I was wrong. This game comes from 1990 back when shirov was young and only a 2500 and he was playing against a 2200. But by no means the mistakes from black were that bad as that from someone rated a 100 elo as the position was incredibly complicated and was never seen before

So this line is well understood as the Muzio gambit. You’re basically giving white everything he wants. So he probably saw multiple check mating attacks as soon as black took the knight with the pawn.
@The_funny_person
@The_funny_person Месяц назад
This is a well known line in the king's gambit. Your opponent usually doesn't know what to do and just takes every sac, and then you murder him. Coming from a king's gambit player, it's a fun opening.

Qxd4+ is asking for even more trouble. It’s basically saying, “I don’t need to defend.” Better seems Qf5, guarding against dangerous checks and making it harder for White to open more lines. I’d be happy to play Qf5 against a GM.
