* After prolapse surgery
* Rectal prolapse
Prolapse diagnosis and prolapse surgery can cause worry about:
* Prolapse worsening, partner noticing, exercise after prolapse surgery
* Repeat prolapse after prolapse surgery
* Depression
* Isolation
* Shame and guilt
How to Stop Worrying about Prolapse Worsening and after Prolapse Surgery
Emotional support for prolapse and prolapse surgery is often lacking. 40% of the general female population 45-85 years has significant pelvic organ prolapse (ICS 2004).
How to Overcome Prolapse Worsening and Prolapse Surgery Anxiety
1. Know your Prolapse Condition
Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the pelvic floor tissues weaken allowing the pelvic organs to move.
2. Reduce Prolapse Risks
Worry about prolapse worsening and needing repeat prolapse surgery is a common problem. Reduce your risk of prolapse worsening and prolapse after prolapse surgery by:
* Avoid straining
* Managing abdominal fat
* Regular Kegel exercises
* Pelvic floor safe exercises for prolapse and after prolapse surgery
* Support pessary
3. Discuss Prolapse Concerns
* Online prolapse support groups
* Partner
* Trusted friend or family
* Professional support
4. Worst Case Prolapse Scenario
1. Will your partner notice your prolapse - how to manage.
2. Your prolapse worsens and you need prolapse surgery - how to manage.
5. Manage General Stress
Ease prolapse stress and overthinking with deep breathing exercises, mindfulness and meditation.
6. Self Compassion for Prolapse Sufferers
Self compassion is accepting yourself, being kind, caring and understanding about your prolapse diagnosis and prolapse surgery fears.

Had prolapse surgery about a year ago with a sling implant. Have watched and participated with your videos since I got clearance from gyno. I am back to how I was before but worse. I have extreme bladder spasms that cause me to pee all over myself. I'm going for a second option at this point. I'm considering using a pessary again. Did it before surgery with no relief. This video was so very helpful due to the anxiety I live with day to day with this issue.

Thank you for giving a heads up on this. I was wondering about that. Is that the same as a mesh??? I haven't seen a real doctor yet. Taking some antibiotics, think they help. (I got sick). But need to be evaluated.. I'm not peeing every 20 minutes anymore. And I'm constipated now because I've been eating cheese and yogurt. Even a bit of chocolate. So my thing a ma gig is getting a bit of a rest. But I'm going to have to go soon. I'm so sorry that your having such issues. Hope you can straighten it all out soon. Or rather In.

@Rebelhomeland Is your doctor a regular gynocologist? They don't really deal with these issues and if they operate its only like for like hysterectomies. A urogynocologist will do it all and in fact they will diagnose you your first visit by measuring everything then making you pee in a bowl and measure that. They may make you do a cath too but it's worth it.

Mine began after a hysterectomy. Some Advice is be certain you really do need the surgery before you agree. If weight loss is needed, Do It. Exercices, Do it. Try to avoid this surgery. I didn’t understand how supportive the uterus and its ligaments are to help hold up our pelvic organs. My Dr never mentioned PostOp pelvic floor excercise to compensate for loosing this support. I do pelvic floor exercises daily and reduced my weight. Both have helped.

Unfortunately for me I’m also dealing with abdominal adhesions. A referral is sent to my surgeon for consultation. I am doing your recommended exercises and hope for the best. My hardest thing right now is not being able go out and walking for more than twenty minutes with feeling pressure on the bladder.

@Louise Alain I’m sorry to read about the issue you’re facing with your diagnosis, this must be making day to day life challenging for you indeed. Louise have you thought about trying a stationary bike for exercise? This can help you stay active without the discomfort associated with walking at the moment. My other suggestion in addition to Kegels and good bowel management is to avoid long walks in favour of short walks perhaps 2x10 min walks or even less according to your tolerance. All the best with your Physio treatment, this is a positive step forward for your future management best wishes MK 🌺🦋

@deborahstenton133 Hi Deb, yes I completely understand your worry. Deb there are very good (non-surgical) treatments available for prolapse if you do have one. I highly recommend seeing a pelvic floor physio to assist you too regardless of whether you are referred to a specialist or not. We help many women avoid the need for prolapse surgery and often work closely with our gynecologist and urogynae friends too. Sometimes a prolapse can be very mild but present with bothersome symptoms, a good assessment of your pelvic floor is required to know accurately, including standing upright and straining. Wishing you all the very best and thank you for taking the time to comment and share with other women. The more we as women and health proferssionals talk about prolapse and worry, the more we help the numerous other women experiencing the same 💕

How much does the modern day birthing methods contribute to prolapse ie pitocin drip to speed birth and lying on one's back with feet in stirrups when the body is made to give birth in squatting position. Due to this position, episiotomies are more necessary. All these methods are used to speed up labor and birth.

I am very health conscious, eat nutritiously, exercise, drink plenty of water, etc. I have had hemorrhoids for years, but they have not been bothersome and always went away on their own. I now have a large marble size protrusion and I don't know if it is a rectal proplapse or the worsening hemorrhoid. I couldn't get an appointment with a gastroenterologist until another 2 weeks... Meanwhile, I had been continuting doing PT for sciatica which I've had since early last fall. These exercises include "core strengthening exercises" like planking and "dead bug" and also the "shotgun" maneauver for the SI joint. Hi Michelle, would you recommend cycling as an exercise with a bladder prolapse? I thought that it would put more pressure on the area therefore not advised. Also I feel a lot of pain after doing Kegels exercise. Not during the exercises so I don't think I am doing wrong. I am able to hold for 7 seconds. Do you think I have started doing too much too quickly? I am doing 2x a day but last night I was in a lot of pain. My bladder fells full and irritated for hours after I do the kegels. Makes me so confused.
@michellephysio
@michellephysio Год назад
@Aline Almeida 2 questions I’ll answer each in turn. 1. Cycling is usually a great form of exercise for bladder prolapse. It supports the pelvic floor. 2. Kegels should be pain free during and afterwards. It may be that you’re not completely relaxing your pelvic floor muscles in between exercises and afterwards or that you’re pushing down rather than lifting inwards during your exercise. It would be worth seeing a pelvic floor physio to assist you with knowing how to do your Kegel exercise technique correctly if pain persists as this should not be occurring. All the best! 🙏

I have been in pain everytime i go to the toilet. i have been using the squat method for 2 years now. today i tried your moo method and it was the first time the stool didnt touch the hemmoroid area and i went pain free. i am in such shock. and i cant thank you enough. what is your opinion on the squat method. im wondering if this method was causing the problem all along?
@michellephysio
@michellephysio 2 года назад
@amz carpo I'm so glad the technique helped you. It works by relaxing the pelvic floor and generating pressure within the waist form the sides rather than pushing down through the anus. I can tell you that deep squatting increases pressure through the rectum and anus. Perhaps trial the seated brace and bulge technique and see how it works for you moving forward - this might be the best option to help you manage. remember that this technique relies upon having a soft well-formed stool so diet is also an important consideration see here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TSRbYpWSTxI.html I hope this helps and all the best to you! 🙏 ❤️

I would add the surgery was not that painful, just have to wait quite awhile to resume relations. I do know that prolapse can recur, I would do it again in a heartbeat. It helped me have complete bowel elimination, and repaired any ripping of perineum and protrusion through pelvic wall. Just find a surgeon you trust who is experienced. Insurance covered the cost.

@@michellephysio thank you Michelle. The problem with surgery is that it cann work for now but there is a good chance of emergency surgery 20-25 years later.. my father in law had one emergency in his late 80s - hernia.. broken mesh problem and that surgery made him very ill, basically he succumbed to it and left us few days later. I do understand that technology is probably better now.. but I still think the risk is high that eventually the mesh will deteriorate and cause major problems later in life. Mine also began after what was supposed to be a routine viginal hysterectomy. I had a fibroid tumor & the Dr. said it gad attached itself to my bowels & colon & feeding off them. He said he had to unattach it. But somehow in the process he tied off or clamped off a blood vein to my Urethra tube & caused part of it to die. Then he had to open me wide open from belly button to pubic hair. Cut out the dead & splice it back togather. That was in 2007. I have been to multiple specialist & they do the same things over & over. Tell me to do the pelvic wall therapy. Which I have done multiple times with no help. At first it was like something was blocking the poop. Then I took enough laxatives to get that to move. But there is definitely a kinda hernia inside. If I use a suppository & push that back. I can it sounds gross, but it's my life can dig it out. That's my life. Not one Dr. has ever really examined me. They just put me through all the same horrible tests. Colonoscpy the MRI. the CT. and the specialist I've seen are by far the worst. The top specialist in the 2 nearest big towns by far the worst. Colon rectal specialist & pelvic wall speacilist. Prep for Colonoscpy doesn't really work. And I've had many. They can never get through completely. It's a debilitating way to live. Just pray everyday for God to take me from this earth. Or heal me. I have lost track of how many years it has been. 67 now & never had any problems until that botched surgery. Even making a trip to a Dr. sends me into a panic attack. With the nearest specialty 3 hrs away & to poor really for the expense. The 10 seconds of there time & telling me I'm going to have to set on a xray machine or Colonoscpy, torture at best. Then be told just do pelvic wall therapy & it will fix you up. My local GI Dr. Just keep telling me to have my colon removed. Ya, the surgery that started all of this! We will start taking more body parts out & that will take care of everything! What kind of a a OBG clamps off the blood vein to your uretha tube & I keep telling him something is wrong. When he finally listened to me. They did a ultrasound & my intestines where no longer visible from all the backed up urine! Then off course much later the first Colonoscpy showed the tortures intestines which my GP meant the intestines where twisted & no one even told me about that until a few years had went by. I was like do you think that could cause a problem? Oh no just do the pelvic wall therapy will fix everything. NOT! It pretty much has destroyed any quality of life. And I'm on UTube again searching for help & answers. I wish sometimes I had cancer so someone would listen & help me.

This is a great video with lots of valuable information and I do think you're an angel, Michelle, however please would you rethink your stance regarding kegels in light of the new evidence from physio, Anna Crowle. She has shown that kegels can worsen prolapse symptoms in many people by causing excessive tension in the fascia (connective tissue). I have found this myself after 6 years of diligent daily kegeling and am only now starting to find some relief with the help of a physio trained by Anna in the use of myofascial release. This form of gentle release work where there is scar tissue or extreme tension gradually enables the prolapse affected areas to return to their normal position. I gave up kegeling and have been trying this method myofascial release for a month now and have seen my cystocele reduce form stage 3 to stage 2 already. Since I am post menopausal and my tissues are therefore weaker, I may not find complete cure but the way it's going I should be able to manage my symptoms more easily this way. Thank you for all that you do...I just ask that you take a look at this new approach which may have just saved me from surgery 🙏💞
@michellephysio
@michellephysio 2 года назад
@ Amanda McCrea many thanks indeed for the info, would you mind sending me the new research or a link please either here or support@pelvicexercises.com.au? Currently Kegels are recommended as first line intervention for women with PFM weakness with stages mild to mod prolapse. If a woman presents with increased pelvic floor muscle tension and prolapse then this is a different scenario altogether and Kegels are not recommended as first line, rather PF relaxation which may/maynot include myofascial release followed by Kegels to restore PFM strength. Tightness actually causes weakness which sounds strange but true so the weakness still needs to be addressed. This is a minority of prolapse patients, the majority have prolapse owing to PF muscle deficiency from weakness or dyscontrol which increases the load on the supporting fascia and ligaments. Look forward to reading the new research Amanda, many thanks indeed! 🙏🌺
