I was really taken by surprise when you shared that you forgot your speech! It's wonderful that you didn't crawl into a hole and hide for too long after that. You learned from that experience and made a comeback and even won the competition! That truly deserves a standing ovation. As someone who used to suffer from panic attacks regularly, it really bugs me how so many people call being “uncomfortably nervous” a panic attack. You described them well though, I can tell you actually experienced panic attacks and not just “I’m nervous and I don’t like it must be a panic attack” They are horrific and I wouldn’t wish them on anyone, as you say

You feel as if you are on the verge of experiencing a terrible death, but nothing happens. You still feel the oppression and the sense that the end is near, but nothing happens. You feel like you are falling into a void or a canyon, but nothing happens. Maybe you can find tranquility in this moment, but if you can't, you consider taking matters into your own hands and contemplate jumping out of the window on the third floor.

The onset of a panic attack (especially if you've never experienced them early on in life, or for the first time) are absolutely terrifying. Especially because you don't know what's happening. The first time I had one I thought I had been poisoned or was going into a seizure or diabetic shock and called 911. Then afterward, the memory of the experience messes with your psychology and constantly threatens to destroy your confidence in certain situations. But I'm glad that you got over it, breaking the mental shackles that can trigger such episodes.

I've suffered from panic attacks most of my life and that was probably one of the best explanations I've seen - in the way that you filmed it. It's like suddenly you're in a horror film and you know something very awful is about to happen. Except then it doesn't and you realise you're just in your living room on a perfectly normal day and you think "What the fuck was all that about?"

#ThankYouAbroadInJapan First off, CONGRATS ON A MILLION! I've been a proud fan with a passion for Japan (that rhymes) since 2014. Since the start of high school, I've developed with a lifelong passion of some day exploring japan, and becoming a game designer, capable of inspiring players with an interactive story of the ages (Like a new Final Fantasy)! As of today, I am in my first year of college perusing these very dreams, with so much more to learn. I couldn't think of a question for the life of me, so I think this a more fitting response. I just want to say thank you for being such a significant pillar in giving my life such an incredible sense of direction starting at the young age of 14. From what I've seen, RU-vid is a way for creators to share their inspirational videos with a world of people ready to be inspired. And in my opinion, you're paving the way for the rest of the world, as well as myself. I hope I can inspire peoples' lives in my own way, just have you have in your way. For that, I once again say, thank you!

Thank you so much, Chris! I've stumbled upon your videos some time last month (the "A night in a haunted inn" one was my first one) and I've been watching them all since. Your videos really brighten up my day. Especially after watching some of your more personal videos (like this), I can see a bit (well, quite a bit tbh) of myself in your former self and it's encouraging to see how far you've come by taking steps out of your comfort zone. So, again, thank you for uploading these videos and inspiring people to also take a step out of the comfort zone!

Chris, Congrats on 1 million subscribers and 6 years of experiences. Also thanks for sharing the wisdom you've gained over the last 6 years. Welcome to getting older. :-) #askabroad: Did your award winning speech on always wanting to become rich, also include some wisdom that "riches" can be measured in more ways than how much money you have in a bank account? Hopefully, you've figured that out already. Keep up the entertaining content here on RU-vid. Here's to your 2nd million subscribers.

Haha, yeah it was a fairly sarcastic speech talking about how once I moved to the countryside in Japan, all I cared about was just living a fun life full of random experiences. All my previous dreams became irrelevant.

#askabroad : What do you actually do now? Does youtube cover your living costs? If yes, do you think it's sustainable? Do you have a long term plan? Stay in Japan forever? Have a family? Progress the career somehow? I have been following you for a long time, and was just wondering whether you are doing ok in your life in general. Hope this question is not too personal :) I recently quit my job to put myself into "you can become anything" position again. I can easily live from savings for some time until I figure something out :) One of the stimulants would be a trip to Japan in October (for the second time)!

That was a great video with some really insightful lessons! I've got to say Chris, you have a natural way of keeping people interested just by the way you talk and go from one topic to the next with bits of humour in between. You can tell that you put more work into producing your videos than the average RU-vidr, which really sets them apart in quality! Thanks for the life lessons and the laughs!
