Hi mate , My 2005 golf gti , dsg , Turbo, I purchase it through auction, after a deal swap with my own car , opportunity chance, it’s had 193443ks beginning of September, now nov 20 it’s done , 201300, I haven’t drive it hard yet cause I know it’s done a fair bit of kms , changed the timing belt, three weeks ago, service it , some times I give it a bit , it sort of blows a bit of smoke, but drive smoothly it sort of doesn’t, do I need a rebuild, reconditioned, it’s been well looked after before me , one owner, eight out of ten inside , pretty straight all round , no damage at all , oh... and it’s been standard it’s whole life , I want to bring it back to life again, I’ve fallen in love with it’s , it’s cool , any help would be so grateful , keep up your advice helping people , you know what saying, thanks again 👍👌
Stage 0! These cars are excellent value but the older ones that many of us can afford most likely need some work so restoring back to factory would be pretty awesome 👏🏽
Great video Himi. Spoken to you on DMs about the GTI MK5 I bought recently. Haven’t got to drive it really because of lockdown but will be budgeting for these parts to fail in the future. Very informative video👍🏼
Thanks 👊🏼. Most of the parts aren't too expensive - pcv, dv and thermostat and cam follower all around £30-£50. Priority would be the cam follower as if it fails could cause serious damage.
I had every single issue on my mk5 GTI. Great vid. Tbey must be such common issues. Mad to think about 50% of the cars now are going around with the split diaphragm PCV and making about 150BHP!
@@HimiJ Same here. It was like a remap as soon as I changed the Diverter valve and PCV! Then another big step after a Revo remap, definitely the single best mod you can do.
Hey Bud, thanks for this I am getting a GTI Golf 5 and all thats mentioned in this video is what the previous owner replaced before selling it to me , thank buddy
Good stuff bro, I just got my 07 MkV GTI and the door locks have all gone, charcoal filter replaced, swapped the antenna over and I’m going to sort my PCV, Cam follower and diverter valve too! But first I’m getting an intake haha. Mines only done 88k kms so should get away without having to do much more for a while! 🤞🏼
Haha intake always first 👌🏼, classic door locks one of mine has gone as well 😂. Good shout planning to do the PCV, Cam Follower and DV, top 3 things to get done on these 🙏🏼. 88km is low mileage should be fun car 💪🏼, good luck with it 👊🏼
Hi Himi. Thanks for all the tips 👍🏼 I've just replaced everything you suggested. My DV was rev G (mines a 2008 Pirelli Edition) but it only had two bolts holding it on! Anyway, I replaced it with a 'GFB DV+' off eBay. My car is stage 1 tuned (315bhp ish...K04 😉) so your tuned K03 may also benefit from the DV+ even over the new rev G you've installed. Charcoal filter is about the only other thing I've had to replace over the last 5 years. Key fob activated boot opening was a cool upgrade too 👍🏼
@@heisenberg9739 it was a set of gas struts off eBay and then some minor coding in VCDS. Now when I hold the boot unlock button on the key fob for a couple of seconds, the boot lid pops open itself
I like your videos, I have a 07 gti and I’m having problems with it. I got a underboost code and car has slow acceleration even full throttle. Changed PCV, N75 valve, Diverter valve and nothing changed. My cold intake doesn’t sound loud anymore. I do hear a scraping noise when I’m driving only if I have my windows up but from the outside you can’t hear it. Been using my MK5 r32 as a daily which is a fun car to drive.
Thanks for your comment, might be worth getting your GTI smoke tested to find any boost leaks and could also be worthwhile inspecting the Cam Follower. R32 is a special car, the Vr6 👌🏼 don't get anything like them anymore! Hope you get the GTI running sweet again 🙏🏼
Mine's been very reliable. Needed the cam follower, a bushing and something was fixed on a recall but otherwise nothing and at ~148 km now. Has seen track use. Just turn up, drive and go home
Top video mate, very informative! Btw Himi my mk5 squeaks while dry steering, do you know what the issue could be? Thought it needed power steering fluid, but power steering is electric on the FSi
I've got an issue right now where the cars power cuts out when driving on flat or uphill and the tank is half full or below. Power just completely cuts and then sporadically comes back on. The car also misfires badly when I really hit the gas and start to engage boost at around 4k rpm. That sound familiar from when your fuel pump went out?
Good video. Just to let you know. If your car takes long to warm up still there is a secondary thermostat on these that fail and will need replacing. MK5 GTi should warm up very quickly. 👍
Thanks for the comment. I'll keep an eye on how long it's taking to warm-up. It's normally warm after 10 mins which feels long compared the Mr2 which is warm after driving it down the street 😂
Hey man awsome vid!quick question.my mk5 gti is making a sort of gurgling sound apon start up and during idle.sort of continuously back fires until its warmed up then disapears whilst driving..any idea what this could be?basicaly a rough idle
Hi brother, I have a VW GTI 2006 model with automatic transmission. Recently i have done engine overhauling and now it has started to give an issue. The issue is whenever it runs above 80 km to 90 km the car is rough. I feel some vibrations in legs and on the steering wheel. It happens only between 80 to 90 km speed. Can u suggest me, ehat could be the issue? waiting for your reply brother.
Part itself is pretty cheap around £40, but access is limited when changing. Looking at about 140 to 250 all in (part+labour) just depends where you get it done and local garage rates.
Sick, just finishing up putting together a broken Fahrenheit GTI. MK5's are thankfully very easy to work on. Did a transmission swap, new brake pads/rotors, rear calipers, rear bearings, timing belt/water pump, new turbo, new break booster lines, and my final project, the cam follower and fuel pump. Just got those last two in this morning. You still have the car?
Good day Himi' I also like your videos. I am driving a Golf V and its been crazy on the road' now it gives me a problem, no sign on the dashboard but there is no power man, it doesn't reach the speed the way it should and even the sound of the car is different, I feel like its blocked or something via turbo and the engine shakes while idling. this thing supposed to fly but the power is not there - Please advise. I am from South Africa.
I'd recommend firstly giving the car a full service, get some fresh oil into the engine 💪🏼. I'd recommend checking the DV and Cam Follower and PCV. If DV needs done I'd recommend the RevG and might as well do the cam follower to be safe. Take the car for a drive and see how it is! Keep an eye on the temp gauge in in case the thermostat has gone. Good luck!
@@HimiJ thanks 🙏 for the replay just got full service done mot done only thing came back on mot ws brakes changed dem as wel ws jerkkng fr service it’s fine now u stil want me 2 check things on list ?
Hey what damage will it do to the car if you don't fix the thermostat issue quickly? My temperature gauge hasn't hit 90 in months 😒 didn't know that was a problem.
Hi Just noticed mostly when im on the motorway, car is warmed up well needle is on 90° but it drops a notch maybe a bit more and then hits 90 again, bad thermostat? My mpg seems poor at the moment aswell..
Yeah, most likely is the main thermostat, classic symptoms include reaching 90 when in traffic (city driving) and dropping off to as low as 70 on the motorway. Very common on these cars unfortunately.
Hey buddy I’m about to buy a mk5 GTi next week 180k Kilometers done on it. So you suggest its good in terms of maintenance like these issues you mentioned are cheap to fix if it occurs?
Main thing would be to make sure the car has good service history. Most of these things are cheap to fix if they do go wrong. A youtuber called Volkswizard has a video with buying tips - worthwhile video. Enjoy the new car 👌🏼
@@HimiJ a lot better thanks. Just out of interest what pressure do you run your tyres at? Mines on 18” wheels same as yours and running at 3 bar front and 2.8 bar rear
Hey my mk5 doesn’t fully accelerate and the engine starts to shake when I try to accelerate. Does any one have an idea to what could be causing this? I would really appreciate it. I’m 18 and unfortunately don’t have a dad to show me or help with these things
Hmm, the tfsi engine can be a jittery engine. Lack of power could be down to a split DV. I'd recommend scanning the car to see if there's any codes, checking the dv, checking coil packs and plugs. If it still doesn't fully accelerate maybe smoke test it. Could also look into the dogbone mount insert - it's meant to help with engine movement. If the shaking is really bad might be a good idea to check all the engine mounts. Just a few ideas, hope it helps 🙏🏼
I am living with the thermostat issue, it doesn't cause any damage by not hitting 90 degrees as far as I know, and have oil leak on both sides of the engine 😂😂😂
You can still get everything directly from VW. The DV I'd recommend getting elsewhere as VW will give you a RevD but the RevG in my opinion is better (I've got a video on the channel on it) good luck
Couldn't find the old one before filming, it was the diaphragm style and was torn at the time I replaced it with the fully plastic one - only to find out afterwards they supposedly don't hold boost as well as the latest diaphragm revision 🤷🏽♂️
On my Golf 5 gt Works everything except Airbag light is on Any solutions without vw car scanner ? How can i spot the broken cable ? My is also in blue Graphite perleffekt and 4 doors :)
ege knight5 i used a cheap scanner U281 to clear the airbag lights, once they are unplugged they need to be cleared, check the connections under the seats they often fault with the seats being moved 👍
Yea I’m at 118k miles modded with a tune and other stuff and my cam follower just snapped on me 3 weeks ago fucked my shit all up gotta drop hella money on a engine.l now
Himi I just got my car from a buy here pay here and I never knew the mk5 had cam follower issues like that so I didn’t change it since I got it but lesson learned dropped stupid money on a engine that should be at garage by tomorrow but yea I will change it out every 40-50k miles from here on out huge set back for me
