Weapons of Math Destruction: amzn.to/3VWHjx1

Dopamine Nation: amzn.to/3UVfEMF
In this fast paced world that embraces hustle culture, it is important to slop, slow down, and enjoy life. In this video, I share 6 "figurative" ways to slow down and enjoy life.
1. Let Your Farts Loose
Farting is something that everyone does, but we all all ashamed of. Letting your farts loose represents embracing who you are. We often hide ourselves through our work or other busy activities. We have our own insecurities and imperfections that we don't want the world to know about. It is important to embrace who you are because we are on this planet for a short amount of time. So don't hide doing busy activities.
2. Spend Some Time On The Treadmill
Time moves very slowly when you go on a treadmill partly because it is not enjoyable, but also because it forces you to focus on one activity. Spending some time of the treadmill represents forcing yourself to stop and focus on one activity. We live in a world obsessed with multitasking and productivity, but often when we focus on so many tasks we end up not accomplishing anything. Instead, focus on one task at a time and time will move slower and you can think clearer.
3. Throw Away Your Microwave
We often seek things quickly with little effort like heating up things with a microwave. Throwing away your microwave represents enjoying the process. The ironic thing about doing things quickly is that it makes time speed up . Whatever you do in life like going for a walk, going to the store, or even cooking, it is important to embrace the process (or journey) involved in the activity. That way you don't only enjoy the end result, but you also enjoy the process.
4. Cook Biscuits Instead Of Eggs For Breakfast
In life, we can sometimes put ourselves in routines where we're doing the same thing day after day; however, when you make a small change, it can change your entire day. Cooking biscuits instead of eggs for breakfast represents changing your routine in small ways. Time goes quicker when you do similar things every day because you're not creating any new experiences. And life becomes a grind once we trap ourselves in a routine, but all it takes to break out of a routine is one small change.
5. Go Out And Buy Yourself A Candy Bar
Most of life is boring, but the key to happy life is finding enjoyment in the small things. Going out and buying yourself a candy bar represents finding enjoyment in the little things. If you spend your life only getting enjoyment out of exciting things, time will go quickly because those moments are few and far in between. Instead, try to find enjoyment out of the simple things.
6. Eat The Candy Bar Before The Meal
We often put rules on ourselves that limit our enjoyment in life. Eating the candy bar before the meal represents not bounding yourself to society's dumb rules. Society gives us many "unofficial" rules to live our lives by like waiting to eat dessert; however life is short, so have the candy bar before the meal!

I think humanity needs to stop and think: how did we get into this mess? I mean, we went from being content and happy just by farming and foraging our own food TO must have a million or a billion dollars in order to be content and happy. I mean everybody has to be "successful" in order to be happy or respected now. How did we become like this? What the hell is success?!? And more importantly, this pursuit of happiness is literally destroying our earth...the very source that is keeping us alive. We are pursuing artificial and superficial stuff and in this process, we are converting every bit of natural resources that are edible into dead inedible luxury stuff. Humanity will end when our natural resources run out.

Funny...thanks for the offbeat. I'm enjoying your channel. I work at an ob/gyn with hundreds of patients. Every day, it is like being part of a huge club. I treat every person kindly and because it is all such personal info, and is 5 days a week, I have a comfort level about these normal issues that I hope conveys to our patients. Hopefully it dispels the worry about sharing concerns when I listen and patients realize we are all human. Farting? I just say, "Excuse me." and keep on trucking with whatever I'm doing.

This advice fits my day. I was determined to get my to do list done, and then decided to only do about 1/3 of it, and enjoyed relaxing in between. 🤣 My excuse …. well actually none, but it’ll all get done in time, and my happiness is more important than getting the closet organized in one day. I’m learning to appreciate the little things in life as I get older, and loving your videos. Always food for thought ! 💜

There is great joy in working together as a Couple and sharing the work to make these things happen. The love and care in food preparation. It’s magic.

I had an aha moment with focusing on one thing at a time. I need to do this with work. I have a tendency to drop what I'm doing and answer emails right away. And taking the time to cook. I do cook pretty regularly, but sometimes I resent that time rather than thinking of it as a chance to slow down. I think that's true of any task we do that seems rote. Folding laundry. Doing dishes. Etc. It's all an opportunity to slow down.

Augustin, if you consider the fart equals mistake then I get it. Farthing may be a normal body function that helps people and it can be involuntary if you have a health issue or have had certain surgeries. However if all this is not the issue, then be polite where you can and not rude for the sake of it. We do supposedly have some class. I agree life is enjoyable doing the simple things.

I'm not a treadmill person, but I do lift weights and flexy exercises. I don't have a microwave. It caught fire. I was freaked out. We make oat flour pancakes. Oh come on, he was/is an incredible heart surgeon. My six pound baby was saved by a member of the same team as Dr Oz at the same facility. It just bothers me whenever the lives saved are ignored. He and his colleagues take on the “impossible” cases, and have saved lives that many other cardio thoracic surgeons would not even attempt. Sorry, but his expertise as a surgeon is exemplary; ask his patients. That same kid is now ten and finds farts hilarious! She also teaches me everyday to see and enjoy super simple things, like…..being alive, being able to fart, eat without a feeding tube, and not give a flying fart what others in public think about her profound disabilities :). She growled/ snorted at someone today who didn’t hold the door for her, and I almost peed my pants laughing- ah, the simple things!

@@Michelle_Emm exactly, he’s become a cartoon instead of what he really is. His patients sure knew who he was before. It’s sad because he is a brilliant surgeon who took on the impossible cases, and few know this, and they should! Showing him as just a joke “talk show” host is sad. I’m sticking up for his brilliance and the lives he saved so the 99.9 percent CAN know. Why wouldn’t the 99.9 percent want to know the truth of his looooong, real career?? Letting that 99.9 percent know what he, and his team, did for families who were to,d to say goodbye to their loved ones, including babies, is something that needs to be put out there.
