Feeling burned out, can manifest in various ways like not being able to honour commitments, making plans and then breaking them because you don’t have the energy to follow through. This has happened to me quite often.

My problem is I must still work, I'm studying because I want to change career, and I want to keep exercising. And I'm still giving out myself for I'm lazy and I'm not productive and effective enough.But I can't afford to be depressed or burnt out. I'm a single foreign abroad. Love to everybody.

Stick with it you got this . I'm in the middle of my second career transition. The first one went pretty good. I was able to switch from a blue collar job to an intermediate accounting level where I managed to get about 15 years accounting experience. Now its off to HR to see what adventures lay ahead there . Remember you got this . 👍🙏❤🙏

@@johngallagher72 Thanks for this great incouragement. I would be interested in Human Resources Management, but I would not bear with terrible practice, which I see in my company, this replacing people a whole the time like a gloves. Well . Well. Moving from grocery checkout is a challenge. But option of staying in that position seems like unacceptable alternative.
@johngallagher72
@johngallagher72 2 года назад
@@anitach5901 I have thought about the part as well (about potentially having to terminate or lay people off at some point) . For sure I will not like that part but it will also be important to remember in that role the difference you could make in people's lives as you help them develop personally and professionally. Question ? Have you ever taken any of the Myers Briggs or 16 personalities tests. I am guessing by your career interests and wanting to help people or are either an INFJ or ENFJ ...judge a guess ...I am sure you will find a number of interesting and rewarding career choices in the counselor / advocate role whether in health and social services or in the business world . 👍

This is so helpul. A friend has been begging me to go to therapy, we've known each other since grade school and knows this is not me but I've been hesitant for being judged to be lazy. Lazy is so far from who I am but the last many years I have been losing it somehow.

A HUUUUUGE sigh of relief in my body when I heard you explain what lazy is and isn’t. I’m highly motivated to get stuff done and help others get stuff done as well. I guess I am getting trapped in these burnout patterns more and more. I’m in another one (burnout) right now. My attitude is “whatever”. I have no energy left to do anything but just survive until my capacity replenishes. And thinking back into the past several decades, although not as common as now (parenting 3 ages 9-17), I only remember hearing myself or others use the word lazy. And when I take time to replenish, all I hear are my mothers words, “stop feeling sorry for yourself”, or “are you having a pity party?” I don’t know what she had to deal with growing up but I was born in ‘70’s and those words laced my childhood and youth and I never recall a time where somebody tried to find out what was happening or help me process whatever was happening. Now I’m having to do this work by myself - with the aid of several YT’ers such as yourself. I come here for my self care to get wisdom from those who understand and care. It truly does help when seeing somebody in person isn’t feasible. I’m going to share this with my husband. He asked how he could help me and I shrugged my shoulders. I hope and pray that he will be able to hear and understand this so he can understand me a bit better. We’ve been married for almost 19 years and gone through some hard times, but there’s always more to learn. Thank you Doc Snipes🥰

I have lived with high functioning depression for over 25 years. The judgement that people put on me and think I'm lazy puts me in a death spiral and simply keep me down. I already kick myself around enough as it is having people talked down to me doesn't help at all. I am very withdrawn and have been for over 4 years. I live in almost complete isolation now.

Excellent video. You hit on every single point! I find myself saying a lot "There aren't enough hours in the day." "I'll sleep when I am dead." (the opposite is true. I find I am sleeping too much). Disconnection, irritability, feeling depleted, lack of dopamine, difficulty prioritizing....yep. Even though I may not have been a Tyoe A, highly driven person before, I can sense the difference. I have never had this feeling of being crushed under. Feeling like I have all of these responsibilities, but I don't have the luxury of being able to delegate. There are definite stressors I can identify. My mother is quite ill and immobile (in and out of the hospital, but mostly in for the past 6 months), my husband has limited mobility due to his long term condition, and his condition is affected by lack of dopamine. I have an auto immune condition. These are a part of it for sure. I have also identified information burnout. Which information at what time should I be attending to? I have all of these paid subscriptions to further my education, but I can never seem to get to them. I can't even get to basic paperwork things, let alone taxes. Ugh! It's not like I don't have awareness about tools. I don't have consistency in applying them or I don’t find they are accessible to me right now, other than one thing, breathing. I think what makes it especially hard is if you are going through life changes internally, like peri-menopausal or menopausal, and I am also trying to get off of prednisone for my auto-immune condition, and so my adrenal function is busy trying to rebuild itself, so there are physical causes too. All of these things together contribute to exhaustion. I have bought different workbooks to compartmentalize my life, like a chore journal, a financial journal, a food journal, and a productivity journal, rather than putting everything into a giant to do list. From there, I can then schedule things in my agenda. This way I don’t have to write so many details, as the details have already been listed elsewhere. This system helps with brain fog too.

It is extremely helpful to understand these terms and use them correctly- thanks to you I'm is more clear on what they mean. You did a great job in presenting this topic in such a clear and easy to understand way. I would love to see a presentation with tools/techniques one can use to get out of the burned-out or depressed state. How to block or how to process negative triggers? Tools that can be used when bad memories impact present time. Thank you again.

as we look into our own lives, we do find ourselves on a Rolla coaster ride some are more than others. While some problems are more than others, like you had mentioned that taking a step back to find the positives in life can provided some or a better outlook. I guess its sometimes hard to realize that at those moments when you feel down and depressed , you focus on them , and wish things could be better.

What I really like about this video is the human approach this doctor takes. It can happen to anyone, and Dr. Snipes even used herself as an example. I was burned out even before my mother became very ill. It was a slow build up over the past several years. My mother getting sick was just one more thing to add on to the situation. Another thing was a water leak in my son’s bedroom coming from behind the wall underneath the radiator. With February being an already short month, I couldn’t afford to have this happen. Having to wash and rewash a bunch of towels on top of all of the regular chores. Thankfully, it has been all fixed! I live in an apartment so I didn’t have to worry about all of the repairs. Building management took care of it. I have fallen quite far behind on a lot of things. Today is the last day of the month. I have concrete deadlines so better get to them. Praying for strength.

Thank you for this validation. I dont even recognize myself anymore. I live in pain 24 hrs a day and a single mom, there is no other parent who trades off. (fibromyalgia, Pots, brain fog, fatigue) and I don't even desire to go to social anything anymore, I am more isolated all the time and I force myself to church because I know my kids need it. I can't push through on more things all of the time. And I am cutting more corners all of the time. I remember back to things I did in the 90s it's like watching a movie of another person. And yet certain individuals have made judgments as if I just dont want to work or am lazy in some way. People have no idea what I carry and how frustrated I am. Helpless and hopeless is the right word and always pushing hard to do what has to be done. I think my body is always in a burned out mode.

And I have a lot of things need to be fixed like visiting my daughter as she is 12 years now I never saw her since 10 years. Ya. What often gets to me is the sheer never ending monotony of the daily grind. Perhaps it’s more like being in this rut to where something needs to change or get tweaked. It just all starts to feel so stale like being made to eat cardboard every single day. One day you just go blech 🤮 and you just want to quit and find another whole life for yourself. It’s a lot like motherhood when you can’t ever have a day off from childcare 24/7 and you’re just so sick of “have to” crap you have to do every damned day. Something like “time to make the donuts” and I’m so tired of making donuts.

There is also having to apply to 50 jobs that you qualify for that you don't want to really work anyway, and the jobs you do want are harder to acquire. My degree is not giving me a salary and I'm hopping to something else I like. We have many skills and I'm choosing to explore them.

@@annaamalia7189 Right. Same. And what’s the point? Clean messes just to have more messes? 😅😅 I’m letting go of all I can and I’m decluttering and such, and it helps, but as far as what I have to do each day, it’s still like one extra “chore” or extra problem is just too much. I do all I can to winnow everything down to bare bones simplicity and I think I’m doing pretty good and then bam. Life throws me yet another monkey wrench situation. And I just think why? Can things just not go half ok for awhile before I have some other new problem to have to deal with? I know I can’t control everything but dang we ought to be able to control SOME things at least.
@goodenoughgirl8102
@goodenoughgirl8102 2 года назад
@@KristonMahr Oh dang. I wish you luck. I can relate to that. I didn’t get hired a lot of times Bcuz I was “over qualified” and I reckon they just didn’t take me seriously. And I also could do a number of things. Too many perhaps. It could be something like decision fatigue. Humans tend to get that when we have “too many choices.” And idk. For me I think also it has been that I know what doesn’t really light me up but I’m also still trying to figure out what exactly does light me up-like needing more clarity of purpose perhaps. Maybe we just haven’t found “it” yet. Kinda like being in limbo. Not a fun place to be tho.

I take sn SSRI, low dosage, and excercise regularly, yet I'm in the midst of a huge burnout or depression. Luckily, I managed to get an appointment with a psychiatrist, in a few days from now. Mind you, I had to spend 6 hours in the ER to get it.

What is it if I've always been isolative/withdrawn, I fluctuate from burnout/depression to energy- although within the realm of my house. Work on the other hand is similar, I'm either super drained for no particular reason or I feel good and motivated to get my job done. My point is when I'm home, when I do have energy and continue isolating- Is that laziness? I may exercise or have motivation to write, but I also feel like I waste energy on video games... no matter what mood I'm in.

Work is automatic for the body, while the mind is on something else, depending on the responsibilities at work. In Warehouse it's easy, also I've had cash handling and customer service jobs where I feel hungover and just endure it, which is stupid, but people do develop the drinking habit for stress relief. I'm not drinking now, and it is very hard to get out of these bad habits. In most jobs I've had I never use an excuse not to go to work unless I'm seriously ill. I look back sometimes and wonder how I managed to to that. It's mostly supplying the body with just enough to get the job done.

My previous work caused me depression that I never experienced before in my life. I lost a will to live, to do anything, I was just a slave of my work, my life. I hated the fact that you have to still live because I didn't see any purpose and sense in it. This was caused by working extreme amount of hours, sometimes 10,11 but sometimes 15 hours a day. It was also caused by complete lack of support from my employer , rather opposite as my workplace culture actually demanded people to work crazy hours (as my boss once asked me ' soo.. you don't work at night but you could'). This should give you rough idea. Finally by complete accident I changed the departments and now I couldn't be more happy. My free time came back and my will to live with it. I actually even enjoy my life again which I already thought is not possible anymore. Now whenever I remember those grim and sad times, it brings chills down my spine. I still didn't completely get rid of that feeling and anxiety.

@@DocSnipes in order for burnout to appear in my life I need to get Honest and take responsibility for my actions on where I lost my Gratitude one day at at time and proceed from there by being Open to possibilities that I may have over justified the reasoning and remain Willing to get up when I fall rather than gloom and doom which may have or did put me in burnout.

Yep, "everything" seemed to break at our house. That included my body breaking with my labs unstable. My home looks like I'm lazy right now. But, I do all essential tasks every day for a bedbound man. "Everything" has piled up - I don't have the strength to do "everything" that needs to be done. (It is medical plus burnout.) My disabled adult son and I have a habit of saying out loud things we are grateful for every day. So my contribution was something that had to be worse than what I felt like. "I'm grateful that I am not in labor in Ukraine". We have a safe roof over our heads and food in the pantry.

As a frontline nurse during the Covid pandemic, burn out is real! On top of that, we contend with responsibilities outside of the work environment. I wish healthcare took burn out more seriously and rather than forcing mandatory shifts due to staff shortages, mandate a day off for your medical staff! Nurses are resigning from their careers due to burn out. It’s difficult to find balance during this pandemic.

Anxiety is the flee part of our Fight-Flight-Freeze-Fond response. What is the underlying fear. There are 6 basic fears that your threat response system is trying to protect you from: Rejection, isolation, failure, loss of control, the unknown and death. Which one do you think causes you to feel like you are in jail?

Does the feeling of disconnection go away?
@DocSnipes
@DocSnipes Год назад
I am sorry you are experiencing that. When you feel like disconnecting, you can try grounding : Notice 5 things that you see , 4 things that you hear, 3 things that you smell, 2 things that you can feel (touch) and 1 thing that you taste. This helps you stay grounded in the present moment and distracts you from distressful thoughts that you may be experiencing and also helps with the feeling of disconnection.

It can be hard, but try to find a new hobby to focus on. Maybe a club or group that shares your interest in the new hobby. Just a for instance, if you joined group that did bird watching... you could learn about birds on your own, and go to places and groups the focused on bird watching. Would give chance for something to focus on, and chance to make new friends.
