𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹 𝗢𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀- but literally hardly anything in that retelling was accurate. He was a Navy vet who'd just finished a 5 yr enlistment, making him 𝟮𝟯 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘭𝘥. There was no sketch on the tv. It was just a news report regarding the multipl deaths to which he made a possible connection, contacted Australian Federal Police, who flew him out immediately. His testimony was a huge part in the capture/conviction. Also he was rewarded the $500k but allegedly *gave it back*?!!

I knew there would be at least one bullshit "I survived Ivan Milat" story. Just like everyone's mom had drinks with Ted Bundy, their dad hitched a ride with John Wayne Gacy and everyone else knows someone who hung out with and survived Dahmer 🙄

Last story: I get it. when i was young, i put a pair of shoes had I left outside (w/o socks), jumped on my BMX and road off. Then feeling something in my shoe moving on my foot, I jumped off my bike (before stopping) and kicked off my shoe to then watch a big brown spider hop out.

Australia is clearly a massive portal to the pits of hell. There’s no other excuse for the volley ball-sized, bird-eating spiders; the mass amounts of deathly venomous and giant constricting snakes; the seemingly harmless and beautiful water creatures that will also just kinda K!LL YOU with no chance of survival; the vicious, baby-eating dingos; or the ridiculously buff, giant, mutant, pouch-rodents that like to attack things for no good reasons. Oh or the crocodiles....... The people there are absolutely wonderful, however. Very charming and friendly. I guess that’s nature’s way of balancing out THE EVIL. LMAO.

That's when hundreds of these little red spiders come running out of the shoe, followed by this big red/black spider that's obviously very agitated that something almost squished all of her babies." Me: Oh nooooooo!!! I also live in Australia and knew where this was going as soon as he got to the right shoe... Spiders are so gross.

Lmao! I’m from Sweden and here, middle class kids who just graduated from high school are absolutely obsessed with backpacking in Australia for some reason. Not Europe, not Laos, not India - just Australia. I give you guys my blessing to hunt them to hopefully curb this hysteria, I can’t bear hearing one more story about going to Australia to ~find themselves~ ie going on a 6 month bender and fucking strangers in dirty hostels.
