I've come a long way in my skills doing time-lapses. In fact, I don't find any of them that hard any more. There are easier ways than others and some give a more dramatic effect. I wanted to walk you through what has been a basic progression for me.

Once I have some practice with my current crappy camera with time lapses, I am going to buy a new camera then start on hyperlapses....they are epic. I already have one in mind: a hyperlapse of the Utah state capitol building. Probably will start at the outside and do 90% of the pics outside then finish off in the interior main entrance. I live just 45 minutes from the Utah capitol.

Another bonus of shooting photos as opposed to speeding up videos is you are not limited by the 180 rule. You can shoot at whatever shutter speed is optimum for the situation.

ur time lapses guide is the most helpful video in youtube. I do learn from beginning to a kind of "PRO" through your video and practice. thanks

Thanks so much for that kind comment! Doing these videos has also helped me refine my techniques. Appreciate that! - R

Thank you for the time and effort you put in creating these videos, i think a video on the long term time lapse one would be quite beneficial for some of us since there are a lot of decent guides on other type of time lapses, thanks a ton!

Deal. Might have to see if I can get ahold of some long-term timelapse gear for remote situations too (like start timelapses all night long). - R

Sooooooooooooo. I wasn't expecting the deer, and I had a mouth full of sushi (dragon roll) when I saw it. I don't think I am going to finish my lunch today.

i would add 2 more to this i find worthy of there own category, after 3 so 3b should be night lapse, after that would be 4 and that would have to be the tilt shift timelapse

I shot timelapse with my iPod at first. Just my 3D prints for example. My video camera has a great timelapse feature but it's limited in resolution. My stills camera has no timelapse functionality and I am not buying a 18€ app just to get it. I don't think timelapse will be something I will have in my thermal camera as it's very very difficult to balance the level and keep a consistent scale. That is why you rarely see timelapse with a thermal camera that look good. I tested my cameras yesterday and both work, now begins the fun part of building just the core module into a useable handheld cinema camera. I would love some more tips on timelapse. For example how long(and fast) you want a timelapse in a video. You can always speed it up - but some guidance to plan better and save storage would be great in any follow-up. What to do against flickering if you timelapse outside and are between cloudy and sunny? I did timelapse a cactus bloom for 9 hours but it's terribly flickering and not useable. All shot in raw but adjusting the frame per hand is not going to the path for me. What I love is the idea of using motion graphics, or even drone footage and taking a timelapse of the same subject every week for a whole day. This way you can cover a much grater time frame while still keeping the small progress happening. I would love to use the 168000photos I have from the past 19 years on my computer to run face detection and align all my portrait shots for a timelapse with morphing and relative shot duration. If this can somehow be done in 3D and extrapolated Ito the future I would be very very happy. However it's unlikely that this exists already so I will put it on my to do list for university projects once I am in the correct courses...

Hi Rob. I think your missing your end screen card to the timelapse. I've seen it already but for everyone who hasn't seen it it's gross and awesome and you should check it out

I used a drone to shot time lapse of 200 hundred pictures with an interval of 5 seconds however some pictures are in DNG format and premiere pro cannot recognize them in post. I later discovered that my drone picture setting was JPEG + RAW. Am I supposed to shoot in JPEG format only if I wanna make a time lapse?

I would love to try a long-term timelapse... (but needs money for even the basic equipment xD) And lol at the smelliness of the decomposing deer - what did you really expect? :P (Here I am for once glad that I've permanently lost all sense of smell xD)
