Justin Barbour goes on a long expedition through Newfoundland & Labrador’s most remote woods with his dogs Saku and Bear. There is first class-rarely seen wilderness galore. Together the companions explore, challenge themselves and kick back by the fire. The peace, beauty and unpredictability of nature is all around them.
This series consists of 2 winter expeditions covering 250 kilometres. The first begins in Newfoundland as Justin and the dogs venture into the faraway interior woods for a month. Justin moves by snowshoes and hauls a 250lb toboggan. The team pushes their way towards the vast 2,895km2 Bay Du Nord Wilderness Reserve.
The goal is to explore the province's vast, uninhabited winter woods and frozen waterways. But it will not be easy. It's hard work all the way but with it come rewards bigger than most can imagine!
Be prepared to feel the elements, taste a true wilderness journey, and travel the old way leaving the motors behind.

let's appreciate all the running back to grab the camera after a wide shot like near the end. Walking nearly twice the distance as a result. Documenting all this on camera adds hugely to the work.

Nice to see you out and about again. Maybe next trip before you leave out put a tube of crazy glue in that first aid kit. No need to sew just glue it together. After all a surgeon invented it just for that reason. Glad bear is OK now. Virtual pat on the head to Bear and Saku and a pat on the back for you.

Thanks I actually upgraded this summer past and took super glue with me backpacking for 30 days for that reason. But for the cut in the video I think super glue millimeters from the eye would have been risky too...

Snowshoes shadow showing through the tent. Wicked video! Sometimes strange things happen like getting struck in the eye by an ice auger! Bear was tough about it!

Great video. I had to put the video on pause when bear had the incident with the auger blade. I recall one time years ago I was ice fishing on this beautiful winter's day when a vicious blinding snowstorm came out of nowhere. If it weren't for my dog leading the way, I wouldn't have made it. I had him on his leash and he took me right to our home.

I took my children camping/paddling in the BWCA one time and the weather got rough. I had to scope all of the area for trees that might fall on us. The Eureka Assault tent is amazing in high winds when staked out proper. It's heavy but worth it. A Eureka Timberline XL would not have done that well. My little Coleman 501 stove in the vestibule was nice. I brought a pump water filter. In between downpours and hail we got water from the river. I packed a few pounds of trail mix, Yes it is a high bear area but they don't move much when the weather sucks. I use a NADA chair to support my back when paddling. We have an old 6M aluminum (19.5ft) laker. It works great when it is windy, It holds a bunch of stuff with a duffer. I can solo carry it no problem but I am built like an Ox

@@JustinBarbournlexplorer that Nada chair is pretty easy to make with some nylon strap , buckle and a caribeaner. Make a loop, put it on your lower back, Brin a loop from each side, adjust length so you can go around each knee, put the caribeaner on the straps between your legs, lean back and enjoy.

I've watched you for a couple of years now justin, I go camping down around the south coast of Ireland atleast 4 to 5 times in the summer and its all down to watching you mate. We go kayak fishing, cook the fish have a few beers and talk _ _ _ _ . Your the only one on you tube that's actually doing it for real. 👍👍

When the storm was on I was sitting here in my shorts in the balmy African weather; shivering (in sympathy I think). I don't know how you do it, but I am glad you do. Absolutely beautiful. Watching your vids on tv is soooo much more effective than on my phone or laptop. I kinda cried when Bear got hurt, cuz I’m a huge baby where dogs are concerned❤️. So glad it healed nicely. Honestly if that had happened to my dog I would have been a huge blubbering idiot, lol!

Hi Justin, I saw this area from the windows of planes flying over Lablador several times around spring. It was breathtaking despite the height of about 30 thousand fit and despite the passage of 25 years I remember it to this day very well beautiful land!😃 . Greetings and paw! 👍
