Very informative Michael!!!👍 I was tossing up (for some time) between the MT5+ and BiLock for my place but chose Bilock2 merely because it supports a huge amount of lock types. However, I will be getting in a MT5+ at some point but would have no hope in hell of picking it!. Thnx for sharing, great video!👌👍
If you're in Australia or NZ, I agree completely - the Bilock is a stonking lock and enjoys much better locksmith support in Aus. Mul-T-Lock doesn't even have a trade presence in NZ at all believe it or not. If they'd deal with a non-locksmith, I'd be their wholesaler in NZ in a heartbeat, seriously.
Wow, thats a shame but no harm in asking about being a dealer! lol. Sometimes you just wonder why though! Yes, im in AU and im lucky one locksmith I use does both Assa and Bi-Lock so I can't complain and can easily get anything I want...as long as I cough up the moola! lol 👍They're all not cheap though 😣
This lock is pickable. The "Lock picking lawyer" has a RU-vid video picking this lock. Just RU-vid search "MT5+ picked" and see. And I know for sure that this lock is pickable as I have this lock. And some how someone was able to enter my place while I am away. And all my sliding windows and door are secured. The only lock that is not pickable is the Bowley Lock. www.bowleylockcompany.com/
Кевин Юань they might not have picked the lock and might have bypassed the lock externally and either went through the letterbox and turned the thumb turn or even under the door from inside or used wedges against the door and frame to open a big enough gap to lever the lock out of the frame or something like that, as a secure lock often leads to weaker parts of the door or door frame security being used instead. Thumb turn locks are a big no as they can be accessed from outside or some can even be activated by bypassing the lock and just turning the thumb turn. A good lock does not automatically mean a secure door and door frame. Upvc doors and windows are also very unsafe and entry can be gained without touching the locks if you have the knowledge and tools. Security should be layered, security lighting, good locks on strong doors and strong door frames are only the 1st layers, good burglary alarms also add another layer of security.
I enjoyed watching this. Your very good at describing what going on inside these type of locks, which is a good indication that you understand them. Thank you for sharing this.
that is one awesome lock. I have an MT5 coming but it's not the plus. I'm getting it as a loaner and after seeing this tutorial I'm wondering if I'll even get it open. Watching this video gave me a real good understanding on what these locks are all about. So thank you for that my friend.
Great review Michael! I was crying inside that you cut such a nice lock in half but I guess you have to learn on something :). Good luck picking into it. I think the Israeli version does have the warding but I am not sure about it.
Yeah sawing that thing in half was like chopping off a finger. This one was a brand new retail eBay purchase from Israel and cost me an arm and a leg. But no other way to do it...
Great job.I have picked MT5 on my channel they not that bad of a pick. Now MT5-plus is a different story. Your on the money with all protection in these locks. I enjoyed this video. Thank you.
Great overview! There are a couple of things that may be helpful when dealing with the sidebar. On mine (I cut it in half like you did) the sidebar sets first when picking in a clockwise direction, so you can actually see movement on the sliders when the slider is at a false gate vs. when it is sitting in a true gate. Although some of the locks have the alpha pin bind first, on mine it was more in the middle of the picking sequence you you need to keep checking. It seems that there are only 3 valid slider positions (at least on my samples) so once those are determined positioning the sliders is much easier.
Hi Ted, I'd agree with every word of that. There's definitely a bit of luck involved with when the alpha element binds on MT5 / MT5+ locks, if you strike a lock where it binds once, cleanly, and at the beginning of the sequence then you're kinda charmed. I'd figured out the clockwise/anticlockwise thing and the rattle test on my own BUT I didn't know about the thing about there only being a small number of slider gate positions (from my massive sample size of exactly one lock, heh) and this very definitely bears further investigation. I know MTL sell different slider profiles into different geographic markets (and even different locksmiths) as a key control measure and it would be worth getting a whole bunch of MT5+ keys side by side to look for common patterns. Thanks for the great comment. Michael.
LPL said that even though the MT5+ don't have spooled or serrated pins he rates them better than others as they are smaller and require greater percussion and the way they lock together.
Very nice. I'm confused about your discussion of the shear attack. It assumes the key pins cross the shear line. In the lock's 'relaxed' state, shouldn't it be the driver pins crossing?
Excellent question. Short answer is no. It's *theoretically* possible IF you could get hold of a key blank with exactly the right sidebar track...but the practicalities make it nigh-on impossible.
I've checked! There's no place in my city to have a key made! Not even the locksmith who sells these locks can make me a key. He has to send away for keys! What good is any lock that you can't get a key made for! It's easier to buy another lock! More than likely the door frame can be kicked in, or there's glass side panels, or glass in the door! I bolt my front door from the inside and come in the back. Someone has to get through locked six front wood gates, and the neighbors have dogs, and the are watching! Sheesh! Buy an alarm or get an alarm service! And have insurance! It's cheaper and easier!
Hey mate it's josh from Facebook Aussie lockpickers guild you've disappeared from face hole since the security breach what's the best way to get a hold of you now mate 😊🍻🇦🇺🔓
Doing videos like this is fiendish. If anyone uses this information to commit a crime of shedding innocent blood YOU ARE THE FATHER OF THEIR CRIMES, that's eternal condemnation along with the perpetrators. WHY DONT YOU INSTEAD DESIGN A LOCK THAT CANT BE PICKED!
