The last two recordings I've done have been beasts- it's already been ages since I last posted, but it seems like just yesterday! Zohar's arrangements are quite difficult, plus the fact that most of these video game arrangements are new to me within the past couple years of my piano life (23 years!), so they take some time to be fully ready for recording. I hope my hard work has paid off! Zohar's arrangements are wonderful.
As you can see, I have a new setup! I spoke with a recording professional and he told me that having my piano against the wall causes the pitch frequencies to bounce back into the piano and cancel out other frequencies. I moved my piano to the opposite wall to allow for the sound to escape into the room. I've already noticed a huge difference! I have some work to do on the lighting, so please bear with me!
I'm hard at work preparing to release my tracks on Spotify and iTunes. I've even re-recorded a few tracks with my new setup for the best possible sound. I know many of you have told me how much you would love to listen to my music outside of RU-vid, so I'm excited to make that happen! Thank you all so much for your views and all your support! Your comments are special and I hope to be able to read all of them and respond as best I can!
If you love this music, consider supporting me by buying me a coffee!

Impressive... but hard to recognize original song...

Thank you! I think this theme deserves WAY more than what is heard in the original game: that "tinny", too-fast over world version haha. I admit this arrangement elaborates a LOT, but I quite like it and that's what I found intriguing about it. And I'm a die-hard nostalgic CT fan too!

I love this arrangement. As a jazz guy, I get that the struggle to find interesting/new/fun arrangements/harmonizations that appeal to.. a broad audience is tough. I love your work though; instant subscribe with this, and I'm excited to see what else you do!

What a wonderful, Chopin-esque interpretation. As a musician who was raised on 8bit music and super-nerd who not only listens to the original vgm, covered versions of the ost, and plays many of those tracks himself (including this one, thanks to Lonlonjp's brilliant guitar reduction and transcription!), I am delighted to see that so many from the younger generations (and non-gamers) have been discovering these old tunes and breathing new life into them for all to hear. Thank you!

I agree! now that technology is so advanced, I think it's time we finally give these themes the credit they deserve. :)

I love all of the embellishments and magical flourishes you put into this arrangement. One of the things I can remember about playing CT was the wonder, sense of adventure, and mystery. Your arrangement achieves this beautiful sense of wonder that tends to decay with classic, oft-listened pieces. Thank you for revitalizing this timeless motif perfectly

I wish I had more to say. It's beautiful. There's something strange and enchanting about remembering the song in its original ingame form, then hearing it on piano like this... It's like simultaneously recalling your days playing Chrono Trigger as a kid, while at the same time hearing it in this adult format reminds you of how much time has really passed. It's not really sad, just awesome to relive the memory, I guess. Thanks for that. It sounded pretty amazing.
@KaraComparetto

I love how you described this as "adult format"! You're right, it has a more mature feel to it than our memories of playing the game. But now that we're older, this is exactly what hits us right at the heart!!

Song is barely recognizable this way, but it's so freaking gorgeous that it doesn't matter. That was always one of my favorite themes from CT. Just...so good. And the airy, simple version of the SNES game is still something ridiculous in its own right. Much like the original theme of "Another World" in Chrono Cross. But this elaborate piano almost creates an alternative spirit. And I love it.
@KaraComparetto
@KaraComparetto 6 лет назад
I do agree with you- if I'm completely honest I would say the arranger elaborates more than he needed to. But I wouldn't think his arrangement any less because of it- I think it's extremely clever and creative!

I know it's cliche to say something like "brb crying", but as someone who has always found the music from Chrono Trigger to be deeply personal, this is an amazing piece of work and it definitely makes me emotional listening to it. Curious - do you ever do live performances? I would love to hear you perform so many of these pieces live, though I also can't imagine the mental and physical stamina it would take to perform these things for an hour+.

TheArchiveOfWonder Indeed, Chrono Trigger holds a special place in my heart. It's a gateway to my youth. And the soundtrack, in particular, provokes an emotional response from me. I think it's because it reminds me of better times past, where I didn't have a care in the world, or at least not a significantly important one. A childhood of going to birthday parties at the local roller rink, summer days playing in a friend's pool, nights nights spent playing manhunt and the whole neighborhood going to the bowling alley. It's a bittersweet feeling that I'm overcome with. There are plenty of other amazing soundtracks that I love: FFVII, FFVIII and Chrono Cross immediately come to mind. Maybe it's because it came out at just the right time in my youth, but Chrono Trigger is special. It is a visceral experience for me.

The sound has a nice improvement over the earlier videos, so that placement change seemed like a good idea. I love this arrangement, sadly not too many people know it because Zohar didn't record a video of it for RU-vid himself and it was audio only on OCRemix. Your instrument goes particularly well with this arrangement, and I can hear some details in your recording that I couldn't hear in his original recording. I think the slightly faster speed is a good idea here. Anyway, I'm happy for everyone who keeps playing Zohar's stuff ever since his channel got destroyed, so thank you.

Again you managed to make me relive all those childhood times of me playing these golden era RPGs and Chrono Trigger was a major one in my life together with the Final Fantasy themes, Lufia, Terranigma, Mana series, Breath Of Fire and a few more. This song in particular brings back a lot of memories I actually did not remember much of from the game, but now I've been stormed by them and want to go back twenty years in my life! Thank you again Kara for sharing such beautiful art to us all..! Every time I see you play I'm stuck on thoughts of how much I wish I could play a hundredth of what you play! Great work! It must have taken lots of work to get this done. I have minor criticism though. Especially in latter parts, while technically correct, there's something about the dynamics. I think some of this has to do with the piano sound or maybe even the dynamic range. The original recording has maybe a bit more contrast and this brings more emotion out of it. It's really hard to put a finger on it. It feel like there's a bit too much reverb. I have digital Steinway so I can adjust everything manually. The issue with real grands is maybe the recording is difficult unless you are an audio engineer and each piano has unique sound (and reverb). Anyway, this is still amazing work! This is first video recording I've seen this song that's of practically perfect quality.
@KaraComparetto
@KaraComparetto 6 лет назад
Thank you! You have a sharp ear lol. I recently moved my piano to the opposite end of the room and now the reverb is a lot more real, whereas before some of the sound waves were being cancelled out when they hit the wall and bounced back into the piano. I'm almost sure I have little or no added reverb to these tracks. But you're probably right, it's much more difficult to adjust an acoustic piano exactly. But I wouldn't give it up for the world! It makes the sound seem more alive in my opinion :)

This is awesome- too bad Zohar is not on youtube anymore. It's cool you uploaded this too, since I played a simple arrangement of this today from a Chrono Trigger sheet music book that I have. I appreciate any and all Chrono Trigger arrangements of yours, since Chrono Trigger has such great music. Also, I think it's win-win that you do hard pieces even if it takes a while- you push yourself and improve as a pianist and we get to hear great arrangements! In the mean time, I am not bored of watching your previous videos. I can and will keep replaying all the great music already here.

I feel like I've greatly improved since the beginning! It's a win win situation where I'm giving music to you guys but also learning a ton in the process :) Thank you so much!! I wish Zohar was still here too!!

Stunning. Inspirational. I'm truly enamored. Not sure if you've ever played Xenoblade Chronicles (1 & 2), but there are some fantastic compositions in there that you may find interesting, many within the same vein as CT. In fact, Mitsuda was the lead composer for Xenoblade 2.

I think this version has more feeling than the original one, also the arrangement brings more dimensions into this. Just beautiful! Thanks Kara!

Your renditions are absolutely amazing. I just play CT in May, and it was every bit as awesome as I thought it'd be. Your piano arrangements have breathed life into a beautiful soundtrack. Invigorating what one would already have deemed as beautiful. Mere prose cannot accurately praise the raw talent, and music genius you've worked so hard to attain. As a musician, I applaud you. And as a musical connoisseur I must say I, you've touched my soul in ways it rarely is touched. Carry on.

Everytime i come here to listen some Chrono Trigger your interpretation always give me goosebumps. O.T. question: I never played Chrono Cross, i loved Trigger but it was like 15y ago and i never played other RPGs (even FF) do someone believe i would enjoy playing Cross right now? Has it aged well? Are there some other games like this you would recommend?

I dont even care. Classic RPG tunes are the classical musics of the 21st century. This stuff is going to go down next to Moonlight Sonata by the year 3000. Just incredible feeling, cadence, and inspires people to just sit down and enjoy what is in front of them.

Ya know I listened to this a year ago and it was during a big change personally, The amazing thing is this game represents our past and in a lot of ways the idea of time travel makes this crazy the hear it years later. This is simply amazing

I've come to expect so much from you, and you never disappoint. Your heart and beautiful style shine on CT pieces. Thanks for all your work, and bringing back some great memories, too. look forward to your spotify and itunes announcement. Take your time and find the vendor or publisher that treats you best (or set up your own shop).

Thank you Nathan, you've been so loyal and I'm so appreciative of that! I can't expect less of myself now either, if anything, I'm becoming harder on myself, which I think is a good thing!

Thanks for putting so much effort in your channel; every performance is beautiful, and your responses are always appreciated. It's great to hear that you will keep pushing to develop your artistic gifts. Since you're being too tough on yourself, I'll just be fair--that was amazing from start through finish. I hope this is fun; keep it up wisely, with breaks and vacations planned, right?

this is absolutely lovely! I was wondering if, in between musical uploads, you could do a spotlight of a certain games songbook if you want to show off the artwork or rarity or even a story about how you acquired it? I'm sure it would be easy to produce and would give you a break while still letting content flow to your fans. regardless, keep up the very admirable work!

That's actually a super cool idea! I've already contemplated starting to do vlogs here on RU-vid or on a platform like Patreon. I think it would be a good way to keep my presence here while preparing new music for you all!

If I were a detective looking for the identity of Zohar 002, I would start with you. I would be surprised if they hadn't reached out to the person who has mastered (beautifully) the arrangements. So then you possibly know the secret... If it's Mitsuda himself, just give a wink.
