You are very critical of your own work and always want it to be better. That's a sure sign of a guy who cares about his work. You are a great teacher. You are setting a good example for your students and the rest of us. Compared to you, my welding instructors were shoemakers. The world needs more Bobs. There are too many DICKS out there.

Hey Bob! Would guys be able to do a mini-series on using a Lincoln tombstone to do these kinds of welds? It would be fantastic for us noobies with minimal equipment to learn how to stick weld with them.

Bob, you are an inspiration to us all, a wonderful instructor, and a general all around good guy. After watching your videos for a while, I ordered an Eastwood 200 mp and have begun teaching myself tig welding. when some of the guys where I work found out, they started schooling me in their booths on their lunch breaks! mine is a scratch start, but I sure like the pedal better!

Great video. I'm a novice shade-tree welder. Okay for a backyard "expert" running an old lincoln tombstone buzz box. I have a challenging scenario. I have a winter project where I've been fabricating a 40-foot flagpole with 20-foot 4" sch 40 welded via a butt-weld pipe reducer to 3" sch 40. Aligning the two 20-foot sticks of differing size and welding in the reducer has me challenged! Also running into a lot of porosity in the weld. I should have hired a mobile welding outfit to do this but dammit, it's my project. Just don't stand within a 20 foot radius of the flagpole once erected! That top section might come down in a good blow ;)

You are correct in my experience flexibility eyes and hand to eye coordination goes out the window with my age , but in saying that your knowledge stands firm it just takes longer to achieve this standard we want to maintain , getting old sucks at times ,

I've been using 7018 for about 4 years off and on with my old Montgomery Ward arc welder. Just found out the other day it's an AC machine. Ha Ha That explains my difficulty with vertical welds.

As an inspector I had to take visual acuity tests and send them in to AWS at every renewal date. Are they requiring hearing tests these days?

Thanks Bob! For a perfectionist who very hard on himself when things don't work out the way I expect, it is good to know a man as knowledgeable, skilled and experienced as you can take in stride when something doesn't work out the way you wanted to, out in public view. You could have not posted or redid it but your strength is to show us that you are not perfect all the time. Nobody is! Thank you ! Glen.
