From Austography Film Image Inc, producer of the Canberra Railway Museum short film 'All Stops to Canberra', comes 6029 - Restoration of a Giant.
6029 is a beast from the last days of steam, a survivor of the A.D 60 class that was once known as the largest operating fleet in the southern hemisphere. Gifted to the Australian Capital Territory, she operated for a short period in the late 1970's until boiler rust saw her regulated to a museum exhibit for 32 years.
Now, Team 6029 and driver Alan Gardner have brought her back to life. This is a look at the second time the engine moved on its own, and the crews who made it happen. This is steam at its best.
Featuring an original soundtrack by Harry Coulson's 'Rain Dogs' and The Feldons, sit back and enjoy the little film that could.

have the joy of riding behind 6029 from Hawkesbury River to Gosford a couple of years ago. took the grand kids with us, they were in awe of such a big and loud but once we started moving under 6029 they enjoyed it every minute.

My sincere thanks goes to the thousand or so folks, both here at home and internationally, who have watched the film and enjoyed a glimpse of yesteryear. My further thanks to those who have left the kind comments below, it's endearing and has allowed me to know that my work is being enjoyed - Justin (Producer, Austography Film Image)

The most important reason for completing a restoration project like 6029 is to get as many children as possible to come and experience an important part of Australian History. To let the children smell the smoke, hear the shocking noise, and feel the thundering weight, and to let them go home to imagine that when they grow up; they might like to be an engineer or drive steam trains.

Great video and a sincere thanks to all the wonderful people who have given their time and expertise to make all this possible. A bit of technical information about the advantages of the Beyer Garrett articulated design might have been useful, particularly in terms of it's low "footprint" which allowed it to use secondary tracks which would have been unusable by "Big Boy" type locomotives (or the Victorian Railways "Heavy Harry" locomotive). I saw this engine at Goulburn earlier this year and was obliged to learn more!

Thanks for your comment, this wasn't actually intended to be a mini-doco on the specs of the engine, but more of a brief introduction to new faces a few weeks before she came back into service. We may do a full, proper background in the future. Glad you enjoyed the film.

I know a man who witnessed the test operation of the first batch of Garratts at Beyer and Peacock back in Britain.

Does that museum still exist?what happened to the other steam locos?the new owners don't work 6029 very hard I was at Enfield where we had a shed full of the 60class and they worked they were driven hard

The museum is still operational, though a shell of its former self with no operating rolling stock. 1210 is now a static display after vandals stole the brass from the frame, 3016 is in Thirlmere and yes, 6029 is also at Thirlmere. The Tin Hare's stock is potentially going to return to service but sadly the glory days here in Canberra seem to have passed.

Hi Justin , Many Thanks for your efforts , I've been living in W.A. for many years now & I miss so much from home as I "used to" have 6029 in HO scale until it was stolen from my "locked" workshop back in 2012 along with 5 other loco's , I have some pics of it on my Flickr pages & some video of it actually running on my HO scale layout called "Wombat Flats" on You Tube with plenty more pics on my website ( Kev's Workshop ) , feel free to contact me via my "Contacts" page if you like.

Thanks for your comment Locoman3801, I shall check out your videos, love seeing a good model replica! Sorry to hear about your loss, there are heartless people in this world who have no respect for passions. Will be in touch.
