This collection, along with others on RU-vid, make me think about the hundreds, or thousands of aspiring bands that made records that never got heard outside their hometowns, at best. Dreams.

And it makes you *hate* the radios, corporate promoters, and major labels that choose to promote garbage like Madonna, Justin Beiber, Eminem, etc when there is/ was real great music and talent that should have got a shot instead.

Please don’t ever remove this. I found this playlist my sophomore year of high school after coming out of a very dark period of my life and listened to it every morning before school and continued to in class. I was in one of those similar garage bands. We played all over northern Ohio--private clubs, house parties, garages, city pools, junior high schools, high schools... even mental hospitals! No shit. Our moms transported us to the gigs in our family station wagons. We recorded a record. It was a great time! Lots of hard work and big dreams! It was a great time when music and movies drove our culture rather than IT and politics like now.

i love how almost everyone in the comments are older people talking about their lives *edit:* man, wth with the hate comments... i just like to hear old people's experiences in their lives because i find it interesting. If you insult them or make jokes about them because that makes you feel like a 'cool bad kid' please stop, some people deserve respect; i said 'some', okay? i know not all old people is good, like not every single teenager in this generation is dumb too. if you're young like 13 or 15, idk; nice. Let's just listen to some good music. Have a nice life, guys; I wish u all the best.

I was in a garage band during the 1960s in Marianna Florida. This little northern Florida town had more than its share of rock bands during that era. My group was called The Citations. We played the teen clubs at the military bases, school dances, proms and house parties. It was wonderful and I fondly remember the innocent excitement. I still have my 1966 Fender Mustang guitar. Other groups in Marianna included The Bangs, The Lyrics, The Rising Suns, The Dimensions, and The Younger Kind.

I was born in 1999. So currently I'm 21 years old. Old nostalgic things like this, makes me feel lost. Like I'm not supposed to be here. I know many others feel the same. I wonder how my life would've been if I was a young teenager back in the 60s-90s. Even in this century, I was an awkward (but once you know me I'm fun) person. Didnt do much since I was born in a world of phones, computers, TVs so everything was digital. But I think I would be more if I was alive back then

The 60s had such a distinct sound..... some of the best, most unique rock I have ever heard was made in this period - and nothing has since come close. As much as I wish I could have been there to experience it in person, I am glad to be able to hear it all from the comfort of my room on a rainy day. Still wish I could go back in time though.

The Beau Brummels aren't very well known nowadays, which is very sad because they are probably the best US band from the 1960s. They were the first folk-rock group (pre-dating the Byrds by a few months) and one of the first country-artists (Bradley's Barn, 1968) And to add to that, they had the most Dylan-esque voice in their group, Sal Valentino. Great band!

The downsides are that racism is still a thing, sexim is still a thing, certain things we take for granted don't exist (convenience of technology, like wikipedia, etc) you end up dealing with more uneducated people. now a trip to the 60s for a while, sure, could be cool. Free Hügs Bless your heart!! You're a special soul for sure. Ahead of your time definitely!! You'll definitely be the coolest out of all of your friends!! Trouble is they won't know why until later on in life!! But you and other adults will!! ✌💋

I'm 77...the sound of these bands has a familiar groove ... similar so much of the music that made it big. I have always been blues hypnotized but much of this music just fit what was happening around us.

When I was a kid in the 60's, in every other garage, there was a band blasting bloody-murder.

The only way for him to have this raw power is to be a vinyl collector which I do believe he is. I dont think you can find these on the net and I hear the crackle sound. Good music brother

Did you make this entire list yourself? If you did, I think that takes a whole other level of musical taste and geniousness.

Wow, this is very enjoyable to listen to. I've always loved the 60's but there was always a sound that was beyond Pop that I couldn't quite find. Now I have. Thank you!

The first song sounds like early Grateful Dead Jerry Garcia surf rock licks mixed with the Byrds vocals. Fantastic

I hate to be one of those "born in the wrong generation" teens, so I'll spare you all that line. I'm a simple 16 year old girl currently, but I'd love to just go back for a day or two and experience the 60s/70s. I know there were hardships and such, and not everything was sunshine and rainbows, but I'd still love it nonetheless. My grandpa was about 20 in 69, and my grandma was a teenager. They tell me stories all the time about how much they loved it, and I can't help but adore it too. Sorry if that sounds cringey, but just thinking about the past makes me sad and stuff I couldn't experience the difference history taking place. I hope that doesn't sound insensitive or anything hehe. Anyways, great playlist and if you've read this far then have a great day :) 🌻

These are the great bands that refused to sell their souls for 30 pieces of silver. Notice how much better they sound than mainstream groups from the same era. It is for more reasons than you know.

I started a garage band that lasted from 1966-71 (jr high into high school), I was the drummer. The name 'The Cellophane Flowers' was a real period piece. Made all my spending $ this way, it was a blast.

"I don't know why none of these bands never made it big true most of them tried to use the same sound as others especially the more successful ones but they still should have made it, I'm 55 yrs. old and I've always loved the rock music of the 60's & 70's and the 80's(some of them), this is the first time I've heard of these bands and I would rather listen to them than any of the junk they put out today, thanks and keep finding more undiscovered bands of yesterday for today."-😎📻🎤🎸🎹🎸🥁.
