Absolutely love surf music, I just covered the Beach Boys on my Live Podcast. Of course I also cover, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and all classic rock greats.
Certainly friend, Surf music is immortal and guitars sound better than others. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3X7-wxCZLsg.html *BLUE SUEDE SOCKS* Rockabilly in the style of *Elvis Presley*

at 47.42, the song is called 'el diablo'. in the middle of the song and at the end, the devil laugh, that's my dad. we had the 45 while i was growing up and i used to listen to it all the time. oh, and dad is still kickin'!
Cowabunga ! My brother and i started surfing in the early 60's . We use to take our 8 mil surfing films and add 60's surf music by playing the Lps on the Phono and recording it to a reel to reel while the film played . Turned out cool and we were really popular on Saturday nights . These are some awesome recordings . Thanks Much and Hang Ten Baby !
I've loved surf rock since I was a tiny child. It's never been as popular (outside CA) as it was in the glorious 1960's but the style never really died. Plenty of punk/new wave/indie rock bands picked up the torch later on.
Jonathan Pineda lots of hollow or semi hollow tones. the strat or telecaster. maybe even a gretsch. through. twin reverbs. or blues deville. or vox. oh yeah fender bassman. orange gives a awesome surf sound. space reverb tremolo maybe mess with some delays. lightly
I spent so much time on the pier that I bought the monthly pass for parking. That was earlier when the area where the rides are now was for parking for the restaurants that were there. (RIP Moby Dick's.)
High School. Hawaii. Early 60's. The school had an official Surfing Day where everybody was given the day off to head to the beach. Makaha was the place for the surf vets, pros, and the wannabe's. Sunset was the place for noobs and Waimea Bay for surfing with your body but the high coral could do some damage. Huge 20-30 foot north shore waves during the winter but only for the brave or foolish. Concerts with real 'battle of the bands' where surfing music played until the late evenings. Lots of surf music on KORL and KPOI radio. These sounds bring back fond memories of the best 3 years of my life. Hope the kids of today can have those great times.
In So Cal one place to learn at first was Santa Monic Beach. It was mostly close outs except on the best days but you learned and then it was safe to go to places like Malibu where it was a point break and you had rocks to deal with.
Damn I love this stuff, it sounds like a western combined with the cool groove of the tropical sands. There's a bunch of indie bands which continue a similar sound today (like Sports)
35 year old dude here. Surf rock is a hidden gem. Music today is going into the toilet it's ironic we have to go back in time to find great music. Surf on!
+demonic sweaters The Hard Rock Cafe did a much better Surf compilation CD (along with many more people), and they didn't have the gall to put "best of" in the title! (And they only had three songs with vocals, one of which being Surfer Joe by The Surfaris.) In fact, I don't even see how anyone can call their Surf compilation a "best of," and not have anything by Dick Dale in it!!
Chikkn Lipps Of course... And my opinion is what it is, because this CD calls itself "the best," and there's a case to be made that the best Surf songs did not make this compilation.
GOFLuvr Well, alright. I actually don't like Dick Dale (save for 1 song), but maybe that's because he's on, like, every surf compilation ever. I feel like it's overdone and a bit cliche.
Chikkn Lipps You're the first person I ever saw that had an interest in Surf but not Dick Dale... But I'm not judging you at all. (To tell a secret, I never could get into Link Wray.) Your point is legitimate. It would be like having The Beatles on every 60's compilation and Michael Jackson on every 80's compilation.
This is a superb compilation. Although there never was a band called "The Surftones" in the 60's. It's a hoax by the Steve Hoffman who made this compilation. Story goes he needed a good opening track for this compilation and he and his friend Frosty Horton wrote this song together and put in on this compilation. Cecilia Ann really got attention after "The Pixies" covered the tune on the album "Bossanova". The rest is history! ;-) There is another great "hoax 60's Surfband" called " The Blue Stingrays" who are supossed to be "The heartbreakers" minus Tom Petty. There album "Surf-N-Burn" is really a fantastic laid back surf party....Although made in the early 90's....
At work, at home soaking in my tub with wine and herb, running, cruising, I love this mix! I have to play this at my next beach day.....CHOKE VIBES BRAH

Thanks for compiling this. It has helped me a lot to learn more about this style quickly. Also, great to see there’s an actual audience who are passionate about it.
This brings back the days when I and a couple of my friends enjoyed surfing the California coast. We weren't diehards but enjoyed the time we surfed. My board was so huge I swear that 4 guys could sit on the nose and play poker. An old Velsey Jacobs 9'8" with 2 1/2 inch rails.

Everytime I hear wipeout. It reminds of a visit to the Philly Zoo. We were entering the concession area, and a cart filled with fruit just collapsed for no apparent reason . Just as the song wipe out started playing over the PA. Apples , oranges , pears , banana s rolling everywhere. I guess you had to be there. But it was perfect in every way!
That's because stereo was originally designed to emulate listening to a live performance so everything was mixed like you were sitting in the audience so horns would be on one side, guitar on the other or organ or what have you. Gotta remember this was before headphones were a common thing. If you were listening it was through a smaller component stereo with the speakers far apart, a stereo hifi console, or a mono am radio. So that's how stuff was mixed, everybody had a console hifi back then and pretty much every car had a mono am radio with a speaker in the center of the dash. That's what cutting edge was back then.
@@patrickisswayze3446 That makes sense. I have a HiFi setup in the living room with two tower speakers. It is still the optimal way to listen to music, in my opinion. This still sounds good on headphones, and you're right that the effect is even more pronounced.
This really fits stuff related to water I guess that's why it became so popular in the 60s and 70s, because surfing with this music or just swimming feels so fitting
Not old enough by some distance to have experienced a lot of these tunes but I have very dear memories of driving back from the Southern Atlantic beaches of France after long days in the ocean with my parents and siblings in the late 1980's early 90's, listening to the Beach Boys and in particular All Summer Long. Almost brought a tear to my eye. Haven't heard that song in a long time.
This makes me want to sit outside The Watering Hole at Perranporth, at sunset, drinking a pint of Rattler after a great days surfing. I just need to learn to surf first.
peroxide, Pacific ocean swallowing, sand in ya boardshorts, Beach bonfires, kneebumps, and Levis/ lees that where REAL ..and those amazing sunrises & sunsets & sets of waves curling around points of headlands..then their where the girls..they knew how to fill out bikinis with smiling eyes !!
