Mình là dân Chợ Lớn, ngày xưa nhà kế bên kênh Tàu Hủ, ngày nào cũng nghe tiếng ghe chạy. Thích nhất là coi mấy ghe lớn đi ngang gầm cầu Chà Và. Bây giờ sống bên Mỹ nghĩ lại thấy nhớ quê quá xá chừng.
Great video. River boat transport looks like very dangerous and hard work there. I enjoy seeing far away places, and the people who live and work there. Thank you.
First of all Florida is in North America, not South America... Also this is very very far from North and South America, this is in Asia, I would guess Vietnam.
There are so many things many of these captain/owners could do to make their machines more efficient. Their worries with strong currents would be greatly decreased.
Ha! I always watch your videos. I think I'm addicted to them. Love watching the Captains go against the river current and can' t believe how the boats collide all the time. Pretty risky on that river. Pete.
Boy, I would like to see inside of some of those boats. What a work out to provide goods and services, impressive hard working life. Great video! Simple operating dam, built very rugged.
Amazing how low in the water the boats that have their cargo hulls loaded dirt/mud. There were a couple that looked like a big wake off another boat could very easily swamp and sink them. That said the water current flowing through the gate of the dam looks incredible strong. Maybe someone can answer this question what is the significance of design painted on the bow of most every boat? Have a great day and better tomorrow.
Hi, thank you for watching the video. The two white circles and the anchor painted on the front of the boats are the design of the eyes of the boat, the eyes of the boat have its own meaning. The white circle on a black background on the nose of the barge means the eyes of the barge
The boats have a double hull. The cargo compartment is sealed so if it fills with water, the boat won't sink. ANyway, it's already full of mud, which weight more than water! The critical area is at the back of the boat where doors to the living quarters are cut in the sides.
There are some fantastic boats there. Just wondering, how come the heavies don't come last when the water through the gate is less? And the unloaded boats go 1st when the water through the gate is the greatest?
I recently found this channel and I'm fascinated by these different boats and this scenario. How often do these gates open, and generally for how long? Are the boats full of dirt with large pumps and tubing for dredging? How common do you think it is people are living on these boats? Many have hammocks or a little cabins.
Hello, thank you for watching the video. Depending on the day, the gates of this dam open many times or once a day and the gates are open for different short or long times during the day. The pipes will suck sand from the boat to shore. People live on boats with a maximum of 4 people
Hello, thank you for watching the video. This boat carries sand. Its main component is sand, but it contains mud. This sand is taken from a very large river and used to fill ponds, lakes... and do some other jobs. I have a few videos on how to pump sand from a barge to the mainland, you can find it on my channel
Is it correct that later in the day the water currant through the dam is not so strong so Barges that can’t get through earlier can do it latter in the day?

Yayyyy! Found it. No boats there when the picture was taken but it was during this year so it's recent. Could see the large barge on the North side of the dam that is always tied up there. Very populated area with lots of agriculture. I sincerely hope that all is going well for you now. Pete
Why do some vessels, the heaviest ones, usually fail to go upstream at the very end of the current? Because right at the end of the crossing, the unevenness of the water causes the bow to tilt downwards and the stern, in the opposite direction, to rise. This, added to the strength of the current at this point, should cause a lot of cavitation in the propeller, promoting a marked waste of engine power. 👍
not just that... as the water is already flowing faster through the channel than they travel normally, and then the added displacement of the boat simply increases the speed of the water under them... and as per bernoullis, that just pulls them deeper in the water as its pressure reduces... which only causes the water to flow faster and suck them lower... nasty. and the reduction in pressure then excacerbates the cavitation... the ones that hit it with some forward momentum are all the ones that get through with the least trouble.
