That was nothing short of an excellent, edge-of-your-seat, action adventure movie. Outstanding work guys!

What an incredible job of flying that shot up Squito being chased by I think TWO 190s. ALMOST made it.

The one remaing pilot from Alpha flight jinking that BF 109 for so long with a mangled plane was just amazing! And then to be taken out like that. Great mission

Great mission, one of GR's best! What made it work (for me): 1) Mission had different phases, different challenges in each. The takeoff, navigation to ingress, the botched rescue, then the tense canyon run. The navigation across the "Channel" with Aunty calling out fuel and distance as German fighters were gathering was surprisingly tense. 2) Multicrew. Cap and Aunty made a great team, and it really added to the "you are there" to hear the tension in their voices and hear the fuel numbers falling, Cap asking Aunty to check for enemy fighters etc. The only thing that didn't work was 3) Suicidal Pilots. I was really glad when Aunty convinced Cap to drop bombs rather than kamikazing, and it was a bummer the German pilots kept suicide charging the Mosquitos. Really removed the immersion and the tension if everyone is treating is just a game with no regard for their virtual lives. Hope to see more like this!
@JD96893
@JD96893 2 года назад
i agree. Suiciding is fine in the more casual missions but when everyone starts doing it always, it kind of takes away from the realism.
@HughMessenger

This. The suiciding really took away from an otherwise excellent mission.
@bendydcs3504
@bendydcs3504 2 года назад
Nice, yeah that’s the kind of thing I was going for, this one was incredibly hard to judge getting the balance right so that all of the objectives were complete but with heavy losses to blue, the ramming threw in some unexpected advantages for Red but blues just scraped through but the skin of their teeth and of course somehow it was Cap completing both objectives. The mission was nearly lost several times but you can’t kill a squadron!
@jonathaniszorro

That is a seriously impressive landing at 33:00. Cap certainly doesn't mention it enough, but he is one of the best "seat of his pants" flyers around!

Epic. I think i have seen this movie before. A prison breakout. Arty serving as an R2 unit working damage control and navigation. A trench run. A voice telling Cap to trust his feelings. A bandit on the tail of the attack runner giving only one chance to hit. No target computers. A small target to bomb. Having to pull up at the last moment after successfully hitting the target. Truly a NEW HOPE.
@FildasKirk
@FildasKirk 2 года назад
Actually, New Hope was inspired by similar movie: The Dambusters. 633th Squadron is similar, but the inspiration came from the Lancasters destroying the Rurh dams

@@FildasKirk As the VV (named onscreen) who first called in the Op; the son of a TV/cinema industry professional of some significance (i.e. he has a Wikipedia page), active at he time, in the same general milieu as many of the production staff of both '633 Squadron' and subsequently also 'Star Wars' (as it used to be called, back when C3P0 had TWO gold legs), allow me to comment on this. While I grant that the (print and broadcast) MSM introduction of S/Wars to the generally-unaware general public, named the (lowest commonly-known historical denominator) 'Dam Busters' raid as being the movie's principal inspiration (discounting Edgar Rice Burroughs' long pre-existing 'John Carter of Mars' stories, of course, with all their exotic alien princesses and diversely bizarre characters, facing-off against overbearing warmongering tyrants, on a planet, a while back, and more than a little distance away; which of course had nothing at all to do with it), it both was (at the time, to those 'in the trade' as it were) and remains obvious to anyone familiar with both movies, today, that (as George Lucas himself admitted) the climactic 'trench run' under heavy ground-fire was not merely 'inspired by' but was more or less an exact steal from '633 Squadron's suicidally-heroic do-or-die attack through the Norwegian fjord.

This movie was actually shot in Scotland. My father flew the B-25 camera ship after the Mosquitos and into the same valley. He did all the aerial filming with a camera in each wing tip, nose and tail. The B-25 is at Duxford. Probably used as spares..

One of the best ones. I think the valley ones like this and the Firefox one are my two favorites. I chuckled when the briefing mentioned hitting the 3 tanks and both strafing runs focused on the pillbox.. and good AI. Having a 109 clip the wing of the mosquito when they were so close.

That was fun and exciting! Sort of irony in the original movie script writing, of all the nefarious manufacturing activities the 633rd could've put an end to, the writer choose V2 fuel - which was 75% ABW ethanol. The gallant pilots took down a brewery.

Supplementary thought about Mosquitos - Does DCS model a Mosquito 'Tetse' Mark XVIII variant? The one with the BMG for ship killing. That'd be an exciting one to see - could Tetses stop the ardennes offensive, or something. Like an early A10 mission but with a graceful aircraft. I also had the great fortune to vaguely know Group Captain Smith, of 'Operation Jericho' fame. Might you consider doing more Mossie missions like Jericho or The raid on the Gestapo HQ in Copenhagen?
