He hasn't been my personal favorite, but I do like these things he has said about God and His love.

I wonder how John would explain hell- he explains God is love and at the same time His word is clear about hell’s existence. It is tough to fathom.

Heather, I think you are on to something with your question about whether God cares which name we use for Him. Knowing the right name of God seems rather petty when we're talking about the Creator of all that is. While we can commune with God by being close to the beauty and wonder of nature, human beings historically have have had a more intimate relationship with the Divine through other human beings who manifested divine qualities to the point that they represented God in this world of being. I'm referring to Jesus for Christians, to Buddha for Buddhists, to Krishna for Hindus, etc. John mentions the difficulty of understanding how Jesus was somehow God, and yet not God. Here's an analogy which might be useful in being able to visualize this relationship. Imagine that God is like the sun, the source of light and life for the earth, and Jesus is like a Perfect Mirror reflecting this Divine Light to mankind. If people look into the Mirror of Jesus they will see the sun (God). And it would be correct to say that they see God. But on the other hand, the sun (God) is not actually in the Mirror, but 94 million miles away. The rays of the sun could be compared to the Holy Spirit, an emanation from God. For a Buddhist, the Perfect Mirror is the Buddha. The Divine Being can be seen by looking into the Perfect Mirror of Buddha. Other Perfect Mirrors would be Zoroaster, Krishna, Moses, etc. Mirrors can be of various shapes, sizes, colors but the Light reflected in them is the same Light. Is this way of thinking consistent with the idea that God loves, and has always loved every human being who has ever lived? I first became acquainted with this idea of all religions being inspired by the same God as reflected in the Founders of all the great world religions when I learned about the teachings of the Baha'i Faith. The Founder of the Baha'i Faith, Baha'u'llah, claimed that He was the latest Perfect Mirror, or Manifestation of God, bringing new teachings tailored to the needs of the modern world, such as the oneness of humanity, the oneness of religion, the equality of women and men, the need to educate all children, the harmony of science and religion, the need to investigate reality independently, the need for world peace through the formation of a world federation of nations, the need to choose a world language as a second language for all people, the need to eliminate all prejudices. His vision was to create a planetary civilization. The time period of Baha'u'llah was the 19th century. He was born in Persia, was exiled to Baghdad and eventually brought as a prisoner to a Turkish prison colony in Palestine. His crime was that He was disturbing the status quo, just as Jesus did in His day, and Buddha did in His day. Here is a sampling of the writings of Baha'u'llah: O SON OF MAN! Veiled in My immemorial being and in the ancient eternity of My essence, I knew My love for thee; therefore I created thee, have engraved on thee Mine image and revealed to thee My beauty. O SON OF BEING! Thy Paradise is My love; thy heavenly home, reunion with Me. Enter therein and tarry not. This is that which hath been destined for thee in Our kingdom above and Our exalted dominion. O SON OF SPIRIT! I created thee rich, why dost thou bring thyself down to poverty? Noble I made thee, wherewith dost thou abase thyself? Out of the essence of knowledge I gave thee being, why seekest thou enlightenment from anyone beside Me? Out of the clay of love I molded thee, how dost thou busy thyself with another? Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find Me standing within thee, mighty, powerful and self-subsisting. O SON OF THE SUPREME! I have made death a messenger of joy to thee. Wherefore dost thou grieve? I made the light to shed on thee its splendor. Why dost thou veil thyself therefrom? Baha'u'llah, his name means "Glory of God", wrote over 100 books. God is everything and it doesn't matter the name we call him...He is LOVE and has unlimited names. Christ Consciousness has all the names : Jesus, Bouddha, Mahomet and so on and so on..

I have a problem with the Jesus scenario. If one engages in the Jesus story, they create a narrative. (It must be true) But look at the verses in the bible that show a different story. Mathew 14: 29 31. Peter had the faith to walked on water briefly... John 14:12-14. "Whoever believes in me will do great works I have been doing and they will even do greater things than these." Why are we not seeing these great things? Humanity has to ask these questions. What is wrong with this narrative with Christianity? I only seek truth. 💜
