My iron lustre turned out a brown color, almost looks like wood. It is beautiful but all brown, no green. I probably need to float it more?

12:16 you can't fool me that isn't lavender mist 😉that is blue hydrangea I love that glaze and it does well on dark clay. I like to layer a stable purple glaze underneath blue hydrangea it makes the purple pop and you can glaze the base purple to the bottom. Amaco Chun Plum is probably closest to the location (California) purple glaze I use. Your glaze combos are always so stunning.😊 That you for sharing.

Could you tell me the name of the wicks and where I can buy? I'd like to try making some oil burners! Thanks!

I just bought them from Amazon. Plus a candle oil that is not supposed to burn with smoke. Sorry not sure what I looked up to find them.

Thank You Lois! they all are lovely. Can you please let us know what clay body you are using? I am in the U.S. so I dont think we have access to the same clays as the U.K., but hoping I could find something here in the States that is similar to what you are using. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance for any info!

It’s called Lavaflek www.potclays.co.uk/clays-slips-grogs/view-all-clays/lavafleck The flecks that are already baked clay mean the glaze doesn’t stick so you get the black marks through best seen on the white mug.

I am so glad you don't mess around talking and not showing. Finally these other potters get to showing as they talk. I really appreciate that about you. Some of us don't have as much time to spend just watching videos. And your work is always so beautiful and creative. Thank you.

What a wonderful load with great reactions and a very neat selection. Great load all around, very crisp. Would you share the firing schedule Lois, I am always tweaking mine and looking at what others do to get great results? Thanks for sharing and say hello to your Mum. Cheers...Freddie

Hi Freddie. So it’s a preset computerised Skutt Kiln at cone 6. It does fire a bit high but that’s not caused an issue to my pots. I will see if it’s in. I will see if I can get info off the kiln. Mums doing much better thanks xx

Lois, thank you so much for sharing. I have been watching you since you started. We have been learning as you learning, and you are doing well. Way to go. Are these fired cone 6, slow or regular. For your bottoms, I have switched from carving names, to signing with underglaze ink from Minnesota Clay.
@LoisHook
@LoisHook 3 года назад
Hi William thanks for sharing my journey. Usually I do a cone 6 skutt KMT 1018 that has a preset computer front screen. I did have a big planter that I fired with the water feature and it cracked. I was told when doing big or think clay use slow fire on glaze so it has time to warm up and slow down. Interesting lt looks like the slow fire does a slow cool. Anyway the result was as consistent and ancient copper was great.

hey lois i noticed on the lamp bottom there is no indention for the power cord will you show how you do them
@LoisHook
@LoisHook 3 года назад
So there is a hole cut for the wire at the bottom of the lamps. It’s just a case of finding the correct hole cutter for a 0.75 3 core wire. I think you will see that better on the next video I’m going to put up about using oatmeal in glaze layering.

I love the candle lamps. Do you have a clear glass hurricane cover for it? Or, just the naked flame? I also adore that red… Gut Hellrot. What a name, though!
@LoisHook
@LoisHook 3 года назад
Solar red is another name for this colour. No they have a naked flame. Work well as we had one going at the show for hours.

Every single piece is jus amazingly good!! The lamps are just incredible!!! I’d love to see how you did the carving on them. Just amazing work. May I give you a suggestion please. I see you leaning on the edge of your kiln a lot and it is very very hard on your kiln walls. The soft brick is not very strong at all and you are damaging the kiln every time you lean on it like that. Just wanted to let you know. I’d hate for anything to happen to it.
@LoisHook
@LoisHook 3 года назад
Thanks Michele for the advice. I do lean on it. So I will keep remembering but also tell me off if you see me doing it again. There is a video for the carving the lamps ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-of0dfx-bHUg.html Also just going to to put a new video about using Oatmeal.
