I've been following JoDaddy's Garage for some time and he has mentioned your channel on numerous occasions. Last year I got my high school car back 43 years after I sold it (67 Cougar). I have it in a rotisserie now and have the trunk and one wheelhouse removed. Getting ready to replace both rear quarter panels, both wheelhouses, five trunk area panels and the roof. Your videos along with those posted by JoDaddy's Garage will prove invaluable to me as I proceed. Keep up the great work!

Wheelhouse fitment is looking much better! Helps when you can actually get the bad metal out of the way so you can see what you're doing...

Thanks David. It saved a lot of head ache. It was almost impossible to chisel out the metal in that area. I was able to grind it out fairly quickly.

Put a couple ilet hooks into the garage studs. use them for ratchet strap points and you can pull and tap you inner parts back out a 5lbs sledgehammer is not always the best choice to make metal move but it does work also heat can help massage parts that are really bent. Good luck here to 1000 !!!!!!!!

Thanks Carson. I made the mistake of putting the car on casters before starting the major repair work. All the measurements I have relative to the floor are now based off the car being on casters so I’m hesitant to change it onto a different foundation so I could pull with ratchet straps. I may do it though as you’re not the first person to recommend this method. Thanks for the advice. 👍

Great progress. I will say this again. You are braver than I am. I would not have the balls to go this far on my Stang by myself. Keep it up. Love the idea of reversing the disk on your grinder. Will have to try that myself.

Andrew, you may want to buy a copper welding backer they run around $30 and help bridge holes and gaps between sheet metal. Google it, trust me from experience this will make any welds easier and with better fill and strength.

Nice work, subbed and scrolling through your other vids to follow the work in progress. I feel your pain on the quarter removal. Son and I are working same issue on '70 coupe. The deeper you dive, the more rust. Those brass joints are a pain. We were lucky enough to score an OEM quarter panel. Cost a pretty penny but it's the whole thing and should fit better than aftermarket sections.
@GreaseRookie
@GreaseRookie 3 года назад
Thanks, those OEM quarters will save you some headache. The quarters I installed are probably 5/8th longer in the back than factory. It’s a minor inconvenience for me but it has created issues with the rear valance fitment. It’s good to hear you’ve got a project with your son! 👍

@@GreaseRookie Appreciate your vids. Although the years are different, the internal structure didn't change that much. It's nice to get a preview so I know what to expect! Our car was hit from the back and busted the spot welds on the rear bumper mount, which seems to have saved the rear frame rail from bending, but we'll see. Thanks again!

Making good headway now! Surprised you split the quarter at the taillight rather than just leave the other half of the taillight and filler. Did the replacement quarter come that way? Keep up the good work! Glad you didn't split the wheelhouse, I think that would have opened a can of worms.
@GreaseRookie
@GreaseRookie 4 года назад
Thanks. My replacement quarter is the full piece. After considering it, I decided I world rather try to fit a new quarter in its entirety and only have spot welds to do around the perimeter. Hopefully it works out.

@Timbo428CJ
@Timbo428CJ 4 года назад
Great job buddy 👍 That brings back all the memories to what I did on my 65 as well. Although, I had the whole rear end off mine and replaced everything except for the wheelhouses but in hindsight, I'd wished I would have replaced them too instead of just buying the repair pieces for both sides. You're going to run into lots of brazing that was done at the factory so be sure to remove all of it as trying to weld with just trace amounts of it you'll get lots of splatter from the mig. Dont worry too much about bugering up the metal in the trunk rain drain area as you'll probably use body fillers to make it look purdy anyhow. Fun stuff right ??
@elcam84
@elcam84 4 года назад
Looking good. I cringed some when you were removing the tail part of the quarter. The one on the new quarter doesn't fit well so any time you can reuse that factory one do it. That said they filled every nook and cranny on these cars with brass especially in the quarters as the sheet metal stampings didn't fit up well. That brass is a pain to remove as it loads up your discs and makes it feel like it's harder than steel since you are just rubbing it away. Tackling my pass door skin right now here. The better half was watching your video with me and was saying I should be recording my escapades.. Then the part of I have no interest what so ever in editing and neither does she...

Just came across your channel. Nice car. You have good patience. Would you mind telling a guy what you first paid for the 65?
@GreaseRookie
@GreaseRookie 4 года назад
I paid $2800. For the car. It cost me $300 to have it deliver on rollback to my house. That may be a little higher than I should have paid, but it was worth every penny as far as I’m concerned. It’s been nothing but good to me. 👍

OK got to ask, I love you tarp on the wall thing you got going. How is it attached and how did you do the areas around the door etc? Did you fold over the edges? If you don't mind i might steal your idea it's a clean look and probably will make for easy cleaning down the road.
@GreaseRookie
@GreaseRookie 4 года назад
No problem. First I hung the tarps over the entire wall using tacks in the loop holes of the tarps. Then I slowly stared cutting out the door ways. I worked my way up to the trim of the doors and then just stapled the tarp to the sides of the trim leaving some overhang. Then I came back and cleaned up the overhang with a utility knife. To finish it off I stapled the tarp along the top of the wall and the floor trim. I did this by putting a staple about every 12 inches or so. Let me know if you have any more questions. 🤘
