The height, the hands, the speed and the leaping ability are just a few reasons why Brian Billick says Randy Moss is No. 65 on the greatest player of all-time countdown.
•DontEvenTouchMeh• rice had the greatest QB of all time throwing at him. Moss was genetically more gifted and just as competitive. Rice was consistent and reliable and a freak in his own way, but Moss is the real super freak
You realize there are other positions on the field don't you. Moss is not better than every other QB, RB OL,DL, LB, and defensive back that ever played the game. Not even close.
No, it isn't really. It's not a reflection of the massive talent he had or of what he was capable; it's a measurement of what he EARNED with it compared to what he could have done. I would say it might also have to do with some hard personal feelings in certain quarters, but then Lawrence Taylor is #2 or #3 and he's a walking train wreck so it's hard to know for sure.
kayper54 my bad dude forgot you were with him every day to watch him train. You dont know anything about his work ethic lmao you're outside looking in. Regardless of work ethic, STATS DONT LIE randy is at least a top 25 player
SGS11996 We were ALL "with him" all the time. His work ethic was common, public knowledge, open to anyone who asked and simply listened to the answers... and it was common, public knowledge to be nonexistent. His stats clearly weren't enough, were they? Or he would be ranked higher. People better than you, smarter than you, more important than you, more informed than you, more educated than you -- people like MYSELF, for instance, because I'm clearly better than you in every way -- ALL decided he deserved THIS RANK on THIS LIST. Deal with it. Or don't. I don't care. THIS is what he EARNED, and THIS is what he got.
He was better than Rice IMO. A lot of old heads will most likely tell you different. Moss has to be one of the most talented athletes ever. His combo of height and speed and leaping ability, and hands are so freaking rare, it's like super elite.
Brandon Johnson Joe Montana.......followed by Steve Young.....followed by Rich Gannon.....3 Qb's in Jerry's ENTIRE career, and all 3 won MVP's WHILE playing with Jerry....Jerry doesn't even understand what bad QB play means.... Moss on the other hand, should I even start the list? He had at least 10 QB's in Minnesota, goes to a real QB and shatters all of Rice's records......don't compare these two, as far as pure receiving goes they DO NOT compare, if you wanna throw a record book at me I will argue that Jerry was by far the luckiest receiver ever, but as far as skills go, Jerry Rice is #4 all-time. Moss, Megatron, TO #3, then Jerry.
Moss was already what like 30 when he joined the Patriots? He already was an aging vet but he could still take the top off a defense and out jump everyone. Just imagine if brady and moss would have been playing on the Patriots in his prime years. No way rices records would have standed a chance.
No diss to the GOAT Jerry Rice, but if I had to choose between the two in their prime, Randy Moss all day. I have never seen a player more dominant at that position when they are dialed in.
If Moss had the same passion as Rice he would hold all the records. Sadly, he didn't. I almost wonder if it just came so easy to him he never really developed that drive.
+boblybob74 That's not a bad list. I personally might shuffle the order a bit but not bad for off the top of your head. I still don't think there are 64 players better than moss though. Maybe I'm biased because he was one of my favorites as a kid
Jeremiah Graham Thanks man, but there was no specific order to the list. Just players better than Moss. And yeah I 100% agree that Moss should not be at 65.
The Patriots=Cheaters! Tom Brady* Cheat cheat cheat 0 Super Bowl wins without cheating Brady is Eli's play toy, thank God for him Cheat cheat cheat that's all they do
The greatest receiver of all time. No other receiver can do what he can do, and he can do everything every other receiver can do and do it better... Without stickum.
I'm gonna vomit? The man, the legend, the Assassin Randy Moss is #65 and the 2nd best WR of all time after Jerry Rice and the most dominant NFL player to ever play is at #65. If I chose my ultimate team, Randy Moss would be my #4 selection after Peyton Manning, Jerry Rice, and Walter Payton. NFL Network is retarted. No way in hell is there 64 players better than Randy Moss all time. Super elite.
The one handed catch against the dolphins where the has the db trying to pin his arms is unreal. I remember watching it when it happened and being unable to believe someone like this existed
I am a long time die hard Vikings fan; with that being said there is no other wideout ever to be able to do what Randy did. When we drafted Randy I was a young teen and I thought he looked too lean and would get caught eventually and end up broken. Not only was Randy untouchable but he could take a lick like a stocky slot receiver. Greatest of all time.
Absolutely top 15 player of All Time, & I’d argue top 10. There have been a lot of good ones but you will never see a talent, threat, athlete, player such as Randy Moss. Made my childhood special. Absolutely UNGUARDABLE
Honestly his super freaky combination of hands, speed, leaping ability, and height is probably the best the game has ever seen put together. He is by far the 2nd best WR of all time and should be much higher than #65. I have yet to see anyone even come close to his deep threat ability at his absolute prime.
Never seen a more talented football player ever. He could have come in from high school and dominated the NFL based on natural ability. Just a different athlete gifted with almost everything he needed to succeed.
Randy Moss Is The Greatest Wr Of All Time . If Only If He Had Better QB!. We Will Forever Use This Catch Phrase " You Got Mossed " Thanks For The Years Randy
He had it all. Blazing speed, long reach, great route running, able to make tacklers miss, phenomenal hands, blocking ability. He was A+ across the board. Top 50 overall at min. Maybe even top 25. He was an athletic freak for crying out loud!
65 is an insult to arguably the 2nd greatest WR in history.top 35 is where he should be. He changed the way D has to play a WR like him. God if he just cut out all the BS around him he would've topped Rice in some categories.
Randy Moss. I remember watching him at 8 yrs old when he came into the league. There have been men; Fitzgerald, Calvin & A. Johnson, A. Green, Julio Jones, etc ... Men who are great receivers, but NONE of which in my opinion who possessed ALL of the traits that #84 had. Not only could he run but his ability to catch the ball was superior. & his preeminence shouldn't be ignored too. He would break u. My all-time fav (If only he had his mind right his entire career, I think we all know he would have EVERY rec record)
Not a Moss fan but I believe he is better than Jerry Rice. Jerry Rice had a better career with three rings but had better QB throwing him the ball, Rice had two elite QBs throwing him the ball, all across the board Moss was the better player, just not when it came to accomplishments
Moss was that EXTREMELY rare WR where the ball just seemed to find him. It's weird and unbelievable! That football was like a heavy magnet and Randy Moss was like cold blue steel!!!
Joshua McRae 07 patriots was the best team ive ever seen period and i hate the patriots.. brady to moss was unfair .. them deep catches moss had against miami in 07 is 2 of the best catches ive prob ever seen
I saw Randy Moss when he played for Marshall University in 1996. It was a Division 1-AA playoff game against Northern Iowa. The game was played in Huntington, West Virginia.
The crazy thing about the gifted R.Moss is ,he accomplished all that & he wasn't even trying. If Moss had J.Rice work ethic smh he would've smashed the record book from top to bottom with at least a ring or 2.
I remember watching that first game against the packers, his rookie year. As a packers fan at the time, my dad and I basically watched helplessly as Moss just laid waste to our secondary. That first bomb from Cunningham, right over Doug Evans’s arm into Moss’s breadbasket, just absolute perfection. 5 catches, 190 yards and two touchdowns. Good lord what a performance.
Whenever I hear people argue about Randy Moss and Jerry Rice, I sit there listening. When they are done, I ask Who was Jerry Rice's quarterbacks? Most reply Joe Montana and Steve Young. Then I ask, Who was Randy Moss's quarterbacks? Most reply Tom Brady When I say Moss had Brady for barely three seasons, who were his other quarterbacks? I get back silence. That silence should say it all to who is better between these 2 men.
Too bad thats a lame ass excuse and literally only 1 facet of the game 😂😂. You act like Rice never had other receivers. Let me know when rice takes plays off like moss 😂😂😂.
Take Jerry Rice from those two what do you get ? Neither went to the super bowl without rice . Rice went to the super bowl with out them Jerry the GOAT then you can start a count down.
Randy Moss came in '98 and the first year he tore it up. The 2nd year he brought us to the /NFC Championship. He was just plain a phenom. He was a threat every down!!!
"Throw it up above his head, these dude's can't jump with me....... No really, I'm not being cocky. I'm not being arrogant. I'm actually that good. For real." -Randy Moss The chances of there being 64 players in NFL history who were better than Randy Moss are about as good as there being 20 players in the '98 NFL draft who were actually better than him.
I saw Randy Moss play in person at Marshall University in 1996. Marshall defeated Northern Iowa in a Division 1-AA playoff game in Huntington, West Virginia.
Could be the greatest wide-receiver of all-time! I, personally, have Randy at #2 behind only Jerry Rice, who I have at the top, in spite of his recent-admission of having used stick'em during his career.
The way he's nodding his head at 1:55 tells you all you need to know about Randy Moss. As long as he had teammates and coaches around him who believed in him, that team was going to be competitive.
Imagine how much hardware Moss would have, how many records, if he'd had the kind of teammates that Rice had throughout his career. I'm not saying he has Jerry's work-ethic, but Randy spent a lot of years making a lot of middling quarterbacks look good: Kerry Collins, Andrew Walter, Aaron Brooks, Brad Johnson, Daunte Culpepper, Matt Cassel, Jeff George.
We used to play a game as kids after school. One person would throw a football to a group of kids and we'd all jump up and fight for the ball. We called this game "Moss".
He will always be known as the "Super Freak". I may have not liked the style of which he played, but he gave the NFL his all. And he is one of the best ever!
Better at quitting on his teammates Better at running shitty routes Better at getting alligator arms over the middle Better at choking in the playoffs Better at making excuses.
Xavier Vega You do realize Jerry Rice cheated and admitted to using stickum and other illegal substances to catch balls right?? Lmao Moss all day and every day. Have a glass of Haterade and shut your mouth
Matt Law More excuses, That's all Moss supporters have in their arguments. Or they'll talk about Moss's height, 40 time, and vertical time. Those things don't mean squat. It's what you DO with all your talent that counts. And Moss's career accomplishments don't nearly measure up.
Randy moss is probably the most talented wide recieved ever (yes even more than rice). However with that being said Rice had a better career and had better qb's than moss ever did. For that reason id take Rice #1 but Moss is a close second
Lmao Moss isn't that talented. Calvin Johnson is a better and bigger version of Moss except Johnson doesn't have rings cause he wasted his career with the Lions.
Moss doesn't have a ring as well. Moss was the type of player that only made his QB better- not his team better. That's the biggest difference between him and Rice.
+vicarious8989 wtf are you talking about. Moss had Brady, Culpepper, and Johnson throwing to him for good portion of his career. Please stop comparing Moss and Rice. It's a useless argument.
But he's better than Rice. Man, millenials have got to be some of the dumbest collection of people ever. It's like we're devolving. "Stickum!". How about 'quitter'? 'Big game no show'? 'Non blocker'? 'Two route runner'? Again and for the last time, the only historical comparison for Randy Moss is with Terrell Owens. Jerry Rice is on his own plateau in NFL history. If you're under 25 and didn't get to see him play, well that's your fault. Moss quit in Minnesota. Quit in Oakland. Got cut from a Super Bowl contending team in New England. Languished on the bench in Tennessee and then had lesser numbers on a Super Bowl appearing 49ers team than Jerry Rice did at 41. Stop it. Jerry Rice's 49er career ALONE > Randy Moss. You add what he did in Oakland, it's not even fair.
people like you base your entire point of view on what you hear from the media. your circle of info is so limited that its sometimes humorous to read or listen to you. randy moss has something like 980+ receptions and out of those, 750 + were 20 yards or less.....70+ were for 40 yards or more. Do you understand what that means? it means that 7-8% of his receptions were over 20 yards. Saying he runs 2 routes only is not based on reality and is more proof that people like you will believe anything you hear.
also, the idea that he doesn't block or quits etc is equally false. jerry rice has actually complained when his team wins simply because he wasnt getting the ball as much as he'd like. moss has welcomed the idea of being a decoy, while rice has complained every opportunity hes gotten. the most famous being the game where a tight end caught a game winning td and rice was seen and heard on the sideline yelling "i aint no motherf***ing decoy" while kicking over a gatorade bucket....and thats not the first time
