We have a purpose for this carburetor, but it would be fun to see if it would outperform the Brawler we just bought! Let us know your thoughts....

Do not use an open spacer with that carb only a 4 hole! I spent a month chasing a vacuum leak on a 383 big block.

I was really impressed with them, I put one on my Demon when I had it, it had a 750 Holley double pumper before and I was looking to make it more street friendly. It idled better and got rid of the dead spot the Holley had. I should've put a duel plane intake manifold on it and I think it would've been even better for the street l learned the old 340 Torker intake really isn't very good for the street and I'll not use a single plane on the street ever again. Looking forward to seeing your results, I think you will love the Edelbrock!👍

Hey I got two old AVS carbs both for 440 application that I plan to rebuild one I rebushed the idle shaft that's a start 😁..... I really enjoyed your walk thru on the AVS 2. Can't wait to see you try it out... And hey things beyond our control can't be helped no worries I know you'll keep plugging away for the little guy.

i got one good carb.. mine is the 800 cfm avs. #1912. no more than 7psi remember. keep in mind it also takes a different kit for the spring and jet rods for the avs carbs. i have a complete kit that takes about 4 mo to get back order, send me a message if you need it or a rod are spring. thanks for the video

i have a brand new in the box fietec efi kit i bought over a year ago keep telling myself i'm going to install it, however i'm old school and i love my carbs. i would like to get a hold of a 850 thremquad in good shape

you should do a live show like a Q and A once a month, i find that you have a bit of knowledge that could be helpful, plus i never hear any foul language are content like that. i'm getting a little tired of some folks channel cant even talk about a spark-plug with out dropping a f bomb, again thanks for your channel

I've had my AVS2 for a almost a year. Love it. I did have a strange issue. One my annular boosters developed a hole in the casting. All of a sudden it started bogging,,,,, bad. When I pulled the carb apart to rejet I got lucky and thought I should clean out the passageways. I shot carb cleaner through the inlet and it came out the outside of the booster. Edelbrock sent me 2 new boosters and tons of stickers and a gasket kit the same day.

I got the 1906 for my Demon w/360. Have the A833 with 3:55 rearend. Mid Comp Cam. So good low end torque. !!!

Hey friend, Dave Vizard talks about annular and dog leg boasters, in his super tune Holley book and the main take away is the old style dogs spray bigger droplets that vaporize with manifold exhaust heat. The annulars, like a colder manifold. 4.30 am here in Eastern Oz, man i wish one could sleep!!!. Cheers enjoy your carbs.

I'm running this on my mild 318 (thumpr cam, speedmaster heads, etc.) and it runs great for daily street driving which is what I do. Edelbrocks are flat out reliable but in the Texas heat where I live, vapor lock/heat soak is so often that EFI is very enticing especially with the discounts on summit right now. But the car does fire up ever time lol.

I put an edelbrock on my 1955 wagon 318 magnum. It was used and sat for 5 months. I've never owned one it fires up cold with no choke, no pumping the gas, I am now an edelbrock guy. It almmost feels like I have fuel injection.

I just installed my 800 cfm AVS2 on my 454 ! Runs great right out of the box. Gonna learn how to fine tune it if needed. Gonna watch this comparison series 👍. See ya NNN 2023 🏁

I Bought one, for my 61 Newport to replace that ol Carter. Change was dramatic.361bb is wery happy with AVS2, silky smooth. Performance?,,,,, could not say. Ever had a Holley on it. I think Holley will outrun edel on a dragstrip but edel is hard to beat in normal traffic. Thanks bro, good video again. Keep em coming.👍

I have one on my sons mostly stock 360, it runs good with factory set up. I think I only changed the springs. Good luck with your set up!!

Your gonna love that carb for the street. My experience is the AVS 2 is much better off throttle than the performer. It's a world of difference.

On the the track, my money is on the Brawler. But on part throttle and around town my money is on the AVS2. If I’m not mistaken, you’re running an air gap intake on your car. That intake doesn’t have the exhaust crossover. It is my understanding that on a colder intake manifold, the atomization from annular boosters helps with response and combustion efficiency. On a warmer intake it’s the other way around. I had that carb (AVS2) on my 318 dart sport, on top of a stealth intake. It cranked at 145-155 psi, and was running 22 degrees initial, 34 total at a little over 2500. Ignition is an MSD 6al. It was very difficult to tune it as to not rattle on light acceleration on the highway. Had to go 2 steps colder on spark plugs, take some vacuum advance away, and a rod change for more fuel at part throttle cruise. I switched over to a 1969 383 avs, with everything else the same. It wouldn’t rattle, but with the factory jetting I would get a very noticeable lean surge on light acceleration. I suspect my warmer intake manifold liked the old school downleg boosters better.

I know for example say a 600 stock edelbrock manual chokes from factory are ment for performance while the same carb but with an electric choke is built for economy . I'm wondering if you could take a stock edelbrock 750 or 800 and change out the front jets, rods & venturies to a 500 cfm parts you could get the fuel economy up front while having the racing parts of the back half under wide open ? kinda like a wanna be thermoquads/ Qjet

The smaller primaries gives you better gas mileage if you can keep your foot out of it, especially on the highway.

I have been considering topping an LS with one of these but haven't made up my mind to abandon the EFI setup yet. I sure would like the look of an old school Moroso Air Cleaner cover on top of the motor though, lol.

Interesting comparison. I know that CFM ratings between 2bbl and 4bbl carbs are done with a different pressure drop, but I also ‘heard’ that Edelbrock and Holley use a different pressure on 4bbl’s also! The example given was an Edelbrock 800 cfm would flow LESS than 800 cfm if tested the Holley way. Have you ever heard anything like that?

Yes! Makes a difference on how they are tested. Seems to be the consensus that Holley is bigger with the same CFM's

All AVS are spread bore, they were designed to compete with the Quadrajet, also all spread bore. the older AVS models can be square or spread bore carbs. The Thermoquad, a massive spread bore, was designed for max fuel efficiency. you can get a strip kit for both AVS and AFB carbs, with jets, springs and metering rods. That was the best way to get my 500 cfm stock 318 to run well. I love the AVS, nothing like the sound of a spread bore when you floor it.

avs 2 is a square bore carb its not a spread bore. qjets are spread bore

Be interesting to see the results! I'm running the old Carter AFBs and an old AVS, if the gas mileage is better with the new style boosters it'd be worth buying one. Weather? I get it, possibly snow this weekend here in northern Minnesota, I'm also working outside. 😂

Spread bore vs square bore. Are the center lines on the primary and secondary side inline with each other? If they are it is square bore. If it is wider on the secondaries then it spread bore. This kind of skirts the line as the primary side is smaller but still centered the same as the secondary side. I'm looking forward to trying a pair of those AVS2 carbs on my Edelbrock TR5 tunnel ram intake. I have the open plenum so I am going to try progressive linkage on it.

Your región of the country is the opposite of ours. In deep South Texas you can't do much during the summer months due to the unbearable heat, unless you have a climate controlled shop. Can't have the cake and eat it too!

I would ditch the lean burn. Lean burn carbs are set up a little differently, but it may still run good for you
