Notice they didn’t focus camera on edelbrock carb sticker at the end. The cleaning solution ate it up. I wonder if they sell the stickers? It finishes off the rebuild 👍🏻

Thank you so much. When I was rebuilding my 59, El Camino. I spent an afternoon rebuilding the WCFB carburetor. I learned a lot. Then I rebuilt the 283 Chevy motor. It was so inspiring when I started it up and my dad adjusted the idle with his ear!!!! Yes, that is old-school hot rodding!!!! Great video and a great carburetor!!!! Thanks for sharing.

How to check a brass float, pour boiling water into a mason jar, use needle nose pliers to hold the float below the surface on the water in the jar, the hot water makes the air inside the float expand causing a stream of bubbles, if your going to soldier a hole closed and want to remove any fluid from inside the float, allow the float to reach room temperature, while holding the float with pliers making sure the hold you found is pointing down heat up the float with a heat gun, the heat expands the air in the float forcing and liquid out the hole, do not use and open flame, gas vapor inside the float can explode, i have done this many times with no problems.

Great video but at 16:40 it shows you placed the pump connector in a Z pattern rather than an S pattern which is backward. The Z pattern has the tendency to break the pump rod when pressed down hard. Dont know why I noticed it but thought I would share it with you and anyone else who are rebuilding their carb. My 500 cfm had that problem.

I got a 71’ AMX 390 3spd auto, out of a barn in 85’. I put a holley 650, electronic ignition, hooker headers, glass packs, nice mid-range crane cam. When it was tuned to perfection by my buddy Doc(you know who you are) it really ripped up the dirt roads and paved ones as well. I bought cheap rear tires because the car would melt’em off quickly. Thank you for reminding me about that great American car. Proud to own one.

What a great show. I always learn something valuable. I just finished my 1969 AMC AMX GO PACK WITH EVERY AVAILABLE OPTION 390 . I took 8 months to do the paint and body work . The 93 octane gas went bad and ruined the mechanical fuel pump and the brand new 750 double pumper carb. Holy smoke. I had no idea gas was so horrible today. The gas smell in carb was disgusting. Finding a pro to rebuild was a challenge. It cost 125 to find an old school shop in clearwater fl to rebuild it. Keep up the great show. By the way, I had the dip stick tube break off at the block, what a pain. I figured out how to remove and replace with 390 still in. Great show.

I'm crazy jealous of you stranger. In MI a lot of places offer ethanol free gas for about 20% more. Might be worth researching online if a pump near you has it. I buy it for emergency generator gas and some older motorsport toys cuz I know it won't eat seals and won't suck moisture out of the air being stored a little while

@@yeahitskimmel being old school hot rodder the thought never crossed my mind till this happened. Turns out there is 2 places that is near me that sells ethenol free gas. Great idea about using it in generator and toys. Sorry about the lockdown in your state. I player golf up there many times. Stay safe. PS... Ethanol free gas is only 5 cents more per gallon and 92 octane.

Just put a Crowler mechanical superstock Cam in a 68 AMX 390 go pack 4 speed car , the motor was stroked to 440 cubic inches. They have oiling problems with higher lift say .550 or so camshafts because of the AMC lifter design with a small oil groove compared to Chevy. I went back and researched what AMC used for Superstock Cam spec's and found out that they were cam's under .500 lift. .460-490 approximately. You can use less lift and add duration up to around 240 degrees @.050 lift and still have power brakes in A 4 speed car. You can't just throw a big Cam over .500 lift in Any AMX and expect it to last long because it won't. You can rig up the oil system with extra hoses and other oiling crap under the intake manifold if you insist on running a huge roller camshaft in A AMC block. But if you drive any real miles The solid roller Cams and bearing type rocker arms are not very street friendly to begin with due to excessive spring pressure and Are designed for track only car's. I've seen failure in a month on street car's and sometimes just a few days. I like the 401 AMC engine with early screw in stud stock head's and A reasonable lift camshaft in it. They made a 360 AMC engine also that was a pretty good screamer when built correctly. The down side of building anything AMC is the price of everything performance is getting really expensive and impossible to get. Management was The Biggest AMC problem stemming from four going bankrupt companies that never really got it together. My Grampa had A 1959 Rambler American Station Wagon with a flathead and stick shift. I don't consider any AMX to be Any kind of threat to Any of The Corvette's considering the better looks of The 68 to 72 Corvette's. Even a cheap big block mustang can be fast, but it will never have anything near the style of The base model Corvette. Not to mention The SBC reliability and ease of performance. And The 427 and 454 Rats rule the tracks around the world on race days ! . Chevrolet used Carter carbs in the early days on dual and single 4 V applications before The Holley 4 V carburetor's became available. Simplicity and durability is what makes Carter carbs very user friendly. For Serious Racing The 4500 Series Holley Dominator is The King of Carbs .Q Jet's are a joke for most people but I have seen a few that worked extremely well At the Drag strip but only a select few. Even I was impressed with how well they worked and how fast they went. Little engines but extremely fast with A Q Jet , The exceptions to usual Carb rules. Any vacuum secondary Carb is going to be less responsive than a mechanical secondary Carb. But it is possible to get a vacuum secondary Carb working pretty good especially Holley with A trick kit installed properly. I was watching this video because I am getting ready to set up two Carter 600's on A 355 Chevy engine in A street / mostly drag car. I believe that The Little Chevy 355 Small Block engine is going to love having 2 time's 600 CFM or the total of 1200 CFM on top end. And with the Carter carbs design I think that it will be street friendly also. It's not always just the part's but it's the total combination of the part's that makes the difference. Just getting the best parts you can is not going to be A good combination. I've seen many people who have made that decision only to regret it in the end. I used to straighten out messes like that for people when I was young and I usually had to change At least half of what they bought and start their build over Again. I learned that the hard way from the speed merchant who would sell me 3 or four of the wrong camshafts before he sold me the right one ! No names will be given ! , But that's the way it was back in the 1970's and without understanding And reading Peterson's book of Automotive Math it was a trusting the advice of the speed merchant and the other racer's who usually just played follow the leaders and copy them. Now we have the internet and you tube and A little bit more information. But remember that they are speed merchants and conscience has very little or nothing to do with most of them. They are trying to sell You As much crap as they can get you to buy. Listen to the old racer's advice and his experience and don't think he is Old school and not with it because he has most likely already forgotten much more than you will ever know ! . The basics of performance are always the same and experience and An open minded student is The person who hears from The teacher. It takes natural born talent to get a really good reaction time from The Christmas tree at the track but it takes racing knowledge to be A real winner and to have a very constant car that can run the same number over and over Again into the winners circle. A burnout cost's you some money but winning a money race can buy you New slicks and another day of racing. I'm not A 1/8 mile racer, I race 1/4 mile only and I don't like re entry buybacks because it is dishonesty during the eliminations. Put it on the trailer and go home if you can't win in the first round, your stinking bribery and 1/8 mile makes me sick ! . I noticed that Television NHRA event's do not allow buybacks ! Hypocrisy of the track owner's, The corporate sponsors and The NHRA organization allowing buybacks to be hidden from the general public. The buybacks Are going on during The points racing season that Are not being Televised. Why does NHRA and track owner's and corporate sponsors hide the corruption that is going on from the general public ? . Just think about it ? , You beat him in the first round of eliminations and you have eliminated him but he bribes or buybacks his way back into the race and then he could end up beating you in the final round of eliminations even though you already eliminated him in the first round of eliminations. He shouldn't even be there after you eliminated him in the first round of eliminations. Write a letter or email to The US Attorney General's office complaining about The buybacks and NHRA complacency on the issue of buybacks and the bribery ! . I have complained over and over Again to NHRA and track owner's and corporate sponsors and no one is willing to do anything about The buybacks and the bribery going on during points racing and eliminations. Not to mention The discrimination against 1/4 mile racer's and the much smaller winning amounts being paid for racing 1/4 mile. You race twice as far as 1/8 mile and get paid less for being true to the sport of 1/4 mile Drag Racing. That's why Tag's Are going on many of The 1/4 mile race cars of yesterday ! . They don't have any tracks left that Are being honest during eliminations and that Are running serious 1/4 mile money races anymore . The fans are not coming anymore either because 1/8 mile is boring to watch. There's more people coming for Street 1/4 mile nights then At Any other times with no winnings at all, it really shouldn't be like that At The Drag Strips. Eliminations have become meaningless today because of buybacks. Street night 1/4 mile is basically just paying for test and tune. But you can go just to race your friends car if you want to. That's the up side of 1/4 mile street night's. But you can do that on the street also and take a slim chance of actually being caught. The people who built serious 1/4 mile drag racing car's and who refused to change and rebuild their cars for 1/8 mile racing have been sold down the river by The track owner's, By NHRA and By their corporate sponsors. Before NHRA and Buybacks and Corruption took over the sport of Drag Racing it was Always 1/4 mile drag racing.

Agreed. I used to restore old Mopar squads, which came with either the TQ or Qjet. I tried an AVS once, and it sucked. Literally. They are not an efficient carb. In my experience, the Qjet has better parts availability, is easier to build, easier to tune, and holds that tune far longer than any Carter, including the TQ. That having been said, however, a properly tuned TQ performs better and is more fuel efficient. The only good reason to use an AFB/AVS anymore is for restoration purposes.

I purchased one of these EDelbrock carbs from a vendor that you speak of many times on your show. I had non stop problems with this carb. After 4 months of fighting with this POS I contacted said vendor and was informed that it only had a 90 day warranty. I now use this junk piece of aluminum as a doorstop and I will never do business with SAID vendor again.

4 represents power in the bible, spirit. Man has four limb's and the cross has four points, and the swastika for the dark side. There's lots more but I can't remember it right now. Iv noticed that this manifest's in engine's. Three and eight also represents power, eight rep's infinity and three is perfection, this the straight six is two times three and three cylinder's perform good.

You guys are very wrong about the "Q" Jet carburetor, as you don't have the knowledge to tune and make the necessary modifications that will improve the performance of this simple easy to modify carburetor. The "Q" Jet was manufactured by Carter Carburetor on North Spring Ave. in Saint Louis, Mo. for GM. I just happened to work there as an R&D Engineer. Not only that, I also trained Fuel Systems for thirty five years during the muscle car era. The "Q" Jet was designed for low end performance and fuel economy (small primaries with double booster venturies) and mid and high end power (large secondary bores). I often laugh when I view all the modern carburetor gurus making improper statements about carburetors. You have no idea what we went through to develop carburetors and calibrations. They are nothing more than analog computers, that operate and deliver the proper air/fuel mixture to an engine under all conditions. Edelbrock acquired the carburetor line from Carter-Weber and as far as I know, they still use all the original prints as a foundation for what they produce. I also believe they still use the same equipment that we used to develop carburetors.

The few Edelbrock carbs I've dealt with had so much wear around the throttle shafts leaking air in that they weren't worth anything but a ride to the recyclers. Edelbrock is or is associated with a sponsor of the show, has to be.

You're better off just spending $300 and buying a new carburetor lol. I'm not about to spend a whole weekend and probably $100 in parts to be frustrated rebuilding a carburetor. Only to reinstall it and somethings screwed up with the body the last jack ass who rebuilt it damaged. Then you have to take it off and take it apart all over again. Trust me just buy a new carburetor. I've been doing this over 20 years. A rebuilt carburetor is never As Good as a new one lol.
