Doc, My best friend growing up Chuck, had a Country Squire he got from his Dad when he turned 18, for collage. She had a Ford strait 240 hp 6, and a 3 on the tree. We used to say it needed a calendar, not a speedometer, but it got us where we needed to go. lol! (Like the kids in That 70's Show) At 220,000 the engine just died, and it being the gas crisis, 6's were at a premium of $160.00! So we picked up a $45.00, 460 and it's automatic out of a wrecked dully Ford pickup. It took some work, and a shoehorn or two, but we got it in. Then she got new springs for up front, to stop the oil pan from scraping everywhere. lol! She went from So Slow, to Go Go! It wasn't even funny. Chuck's Dad used it once to go get milk, and go a ticket for 80 in a 35. he said we had ruined it by giving it to much power. My Dad said, He had just forgotten how a car should drive. lol! Chuck got an other 300,000 out of the Dragon Wagon before she went tits up. Just well made cars, that got 8 MPG. lol!
I have an all original white 66 7 litre (428) Country Sedan wagon that has a red XL type interior with console. Power seats, A/T, P/S, P/B, A/C and power windows. Also, 3:25 posi rear. I found it in a FL scrap yard and bought it for $500. The transmission was cooked because it was driven with a leaky fluid line. C6 transmission is an east rebuild. I switched the carb to a 735 cfm Holley and switched the camshaft to a RV cam, and converted the distributor to electronic. Other than that, the car has worked out quite well.
A 450 HP Coyote would have been a beautiful thing too , who needs that much HP? Where can you use it? Turbo a Coyote and you are right there if that’s what you want
This is a great build/ride. I know a lot of guys will bitch about an LS swap, but Hell at least it's still out here, Kicking ass, and taking names! lol! Now about that Turbo before the supercharger? I ran a GMC Astro with a Detroit 2 stroke, that had the same set up. So cool to see it used in a resto mod. Great thinking never dies! I just wish you'ld have driven this one. But I know you've got lots to do in a day. Stay Well Sir!
I had one until 1983 (mom's car) built like a tank, with the 390 motor. If I knew back then what I know now I would have put it on blocks to keep, (dad convinced me to sell 😒😒), but that's a whole nother story.
I’m with you on this, I was offered a low mileage 66 Rambler Station wagon from my dad in 78 to drive, not cool back then when all my friends were driving muscle cars, I wish I had that car now😢
Everything looked amazing to me until I got to the part of Ls engine swap.I know its most likely better in terms of parts or even reliability but to many of us out here dropping a Chevy engine on such nice classic Ford is a sin 😱😮💨 However, this is s a very interesting build. Thanks Dennis !👍
@@MrTurboRotaryNot necessarily in terms of parts or reliability, but the cost of a Coyote compared to the ls. Still would have loved to see one in there though!

Lovin it till you opened the hood. A modern Coyote or a recent Godzilla 7.3 would've worked just fine. Still a badass grocery getter nonetheless. When it starts burnin' oil like chevys will do, you can tell folks its a diesel...
The irony of it all. You had me until the hood opened. Uses a “cheap” Chevy engine from a now defunct division of GM. I’m 65yrs old. Since the 1970’s, I’ve seen so many old Fords (especially the 1930’s-1940’s) with Chevy power. The reason? “Ohh, the Chevy small block is cheaper than the Ford small block.” Is the typical response I’d get. Guys like that are quirky. They will drop thousands of $$$$$ into fabrication and save a couple hundred $$$ by opting for a Chevy 🐁… 😖🙄
Loved it until I saw the LS in it. Still a super cool car, and it's his money and his choice 100%, but Fords should run Ford engines in my opinion. Neat car all the same!
