I'm a few mins in but that intro made me so nostalgic. The era of the internet where most of us were just clueless and recording cool shit with our shaky cams is something that will never be replicated ever again and I will remember so fondly.
I think we need more videos like that - just sharing cool things we've done or found without any care for views, sponsorships, clickbait, etc. The time when that was the norm was peak RU-vid in my eyes.
This is an absolute gem. Wish I’d done something like this back then just to look back at how I used to shiny hunt but this really encapsulates old school shiny hunting!

I miss the old era of RU-vid when more people had their own styles and types of content. Not that there isn’t anymore but it has become more one note since the algorithm only seems to pick up on certain things. This is one of the only channels I follow that hasn’t been extremely changed with the times which is why I enjoy it so much. ❤️

Your videos have the amazing blend of storytelling, amazing editing and passion that makes watching your videos a treat. It was clear to see back then, and you have only improved over time. this is EXACTLY why i got into shiny hunting - the community. yours, sonikks, thesupremerk9s and shinycollector's videos were something my brother and i would constantly binge back in the day. it inspired my brother to challenge me to a shiny badge quest race and each day we'd update each other on how the hunts were going. eventually he face timed me like 2 weeks later with a shiny chikorita on his screen!! it 100% warped my reality, because shinies (to me at the time) were something to find randomly, and i was WAY too scared to start a shiny hunt LOL, but i started and after a little while found a shiny totodile on my lunch break at work on May 12th, 2018! even though i found shinies when i was younger, i never thought i'd start hunting them as much as i do today. thanks for the crazy nostalgia trip and the shiny addiction! also you really should play the new mario kart 8, its awesome!!!!
This is such a genuine time capsule. The older footage combined with the current narration brings a really genuine vibe to all this, and a video like this really highlights what I think is the specialty of this channel. It's hard to describe the exact feeling, but it's great. But in all seriousness... when's the indigo disk movie coming out? (the more that people asked the ask, the more you shouldve waited. Imagine dlc part 2 of SV dlc video coming out after 10 years)
I got into shiny hunting around 2015-2016, so just a little bit after you, but the early days of shiny hunting is something I will cherish forever, watching people hold their phones up to their ds’s, hearing whatever show they were watching on in the background. I always liked to guess when the shiny would show up for the person since everyone put a couple of encounters before the shiny showed up (still do it to this day). Sometimes I miss it, cause now, when I look up “shiny gastly” I get scarvio videos when I wanna see some sprout tower hunting! Also the shinytwins nature guess is such a throwback, I hope they’re both doing well
Watching all this legacy footage of the past is so nostalgic. All the bits of gameplay out on a walk with the sun glaring on your DS, the White 2 random team challenge making a small appearance really makes me appreciate all the effort and hard work you've done to grow your channel over the decade.
Kinda crazy to think how much time has passed, I have probably watched around 400 of your videos, its been a quick 11-12 years, miss those days, thanks for being one of the channels to get me into shiny hunting
Only a minute in but gosh I miss abenzio's videos. They always had such an adorable and excited feeling. I remember one reaction video where he had found a shiny while on a car ride and he had his grandmother talk about how much he loved shinies and she sounded so happy for him. When I think about how I used to show my pokemon to my mom I think about that vid too!

For me, the easyness of shinies in gen 9 is what got me to start shiny hunting, and now ive snowballed into doing a few full odds hunts. I did a fossil hunt on lets go (784 with it ending up as Kabuto) and im currently doing a badge quest on Sword, looking for my first member on route 2. Shiny hunting has changed me in some ways, and i dont regret a thing about it

Absol this video is really good, it seems like a logistical nightmare to somehow make all of that old footage work in a video like this. I think it highlights why I like your videos so much, they really capture the charm of the old internet and RU-vid, but only the positives. Improving on the formula; your presentation and pacing is really good and makes this video feel nostalgic even for someone who didn't really watch this stuff as a kid. Great work!!

your videos usually have a nostalgic vibe to me, but this one really hits that note!! i didn't have many friends into pokemon as a kid (and none middle school and older) but the joy of just having fun while sharing the game with others feels so comforting to me. finding you last year is what finally got me into shiny hunting, i was fascinated by them as a kid, but didn't have any idea how to go about it and between you, shiny cathrine, and scarlet/violet's ease of hunting where i can just run around and encounter visually while watching you guys and othet poketubers has me hooked now as an adult. i love going back and rewatching your gameplay movies while i hunt, it's always so fun! getting to see this time capsule turned video was awesome, matt!

i love the old shiny hunting videos, theres something so simple to a low quality camera, the background sound of the TV, and the sounds of the DS is so nostalgic. i often rewatch shinytwins old old shiny videos and hearing you mention willow in the cyndaquil brought a smile to my face :)

Love this video. The nostalgic young Matt's shiny hunting footage and the experienced editing from now make a great video. It also brings back pleasant memories from finding the first shinies in pokemon Gold as a kid. 100 times more exciting than using sandwiches and mass outbreaks. there's something bittersweet looking at the past, seeing the old bits you made with your friends makes me look back at what i was doing 10 years ago as a 14 year old. i would bring my DS outside with my friends and we'd play together, and then we'd make up our own pokemon stories and act them out in my backyard. simpler times. thanks for sharing Matt!
As someone who has only started shiny hunting about a year ago, and only found about 10 full odds 8192, and too many in arceus and Violet, it’s fun. You got me into it, and I hope I can meet some amazing friends as I share more of my finds.

Man this was such a nostalgia trip! Abenzio, Total Drama Island, SSB4 and Mario Kart 8...geez man, really got me in my feels with this one lol. I had done a few Shiny hunts a few years before 2014, but that era was when I REALLY got into Shiny hunting, and found a lot of those early shaky-cam Shiny videos for the first time. Fantastic video!!

This was a super cool video to see Matt! I was about 10 years old when you first started filming this, and I wouldn’t have regular internet access until a few more years from then, so this is definitely an era of shiny hunting I missed out on, and am a little envious of. Even if a lot has changed since then, I feel like you still encapsulate a lot of that same energy from the ol’ 8192 days, you’re always coming up with new ways to keep the Pokémon experience fresh. I think the first video of yours I saw was the shiny Xerneas video? (Which was 6 years ago sheeesh) and I have been consistently inspired by how much fun you have playing these games, and how well you communicate that to us! H, ☂️! P.S. I watched his video on how to spot a shiny patch in DPPt Radar hunting before every Radar hunt attempt I did back in the day. Never did find any radar shiny grass patches before switching to full odds. Seems like a good sign and reminder to go back and give it another shot. Great video!
