Step 1, pull plugs, fog cylinders, step 2 pull carb, rebuild it and install new base gasket, step 3 check fuel and drain it! Boroscope the fuel tank and look for rust, if so run a boat tank and new line to electric fuel pump , prime, new fuel filter in the carb and new clear inline filter as well. Step 4 Check clean, and regap or replace the points, check cap and rotor, wires etc . Step 5 new oil and filter sae 30wt to run it out for first fire then drop oil and filter after 5 - 10 min of idle time, and of course cooling system! Big engines need lots and lots of cooling! This is a high compression engine either a 425 or 455 it needs premium fuel to run and tune properly, it aint gonna run on 85 octane😂😂😂

Gents! WTAF?! Drain all fluids for crying out loud… WAY MORE PRE-LUBRICATION and cleaning puhhleeeaazuh! I’ve also seen a quite a few fixes with head gasket sealer, but with recent HG failures on running -driving vehicles. I’ve seen it done with something sitting so long w/ many other systemic issues.

From 1973 to 1976 GMC built a fiberglass motor home. They used that same drive train that's in your Toronto! All they changed was the front hubs to use one ton dully wheels! Same gearing, same wheelbearing and same brakes!

Nice work. I'm pretty sure new points would be a lot less expensive than a new Snap-on leatherman. I had a ' 68 Toronado just like that one, back in the early '80's and I can tell you it was a very potent motor in it. You could smoke the tires forever! I wound up putting that engine into a '72 Toronado and drove it for many, many more trouble-free years!

So back in 1975 i was 18 years old right out of high school. That was my very first car it was a 1967 Oldsmobile toronado front wheel drive mine had the folding lights and a power antenna gold exterior white seats. I remember I paid $600 bucks for it then I sold it and got an Oldsmobile 442 and you know about that car.

I drove a 69 for 14 years, from 1985-1999 so the inside and under the hood look very familiar! That speedo takes some getting used to. The original wheels have the funky valve stems with a nut on the other side. I'd forget it was there when I'd get tires and of course the shops hadn't seen that in forever so they'd try to pull the stem out and make it leak. I think I bought all of the leftover valve stems from the parts stores here because I stopped being able to get them!

You can see what you want about those front wheel drives, but I've been out with my pickup stuck on the side while those front wheel drive cars. Just keep cruising right on through the snow and ice with your studied tires in front going around corners like they're supposed to not sliding you can't beat them in the snow

BUT I think you're gonna find that if you are going to keep on making these great videos (I really hope you do) you'll need to do a little more part buying before hand and making sure the fundamentals are able to be run to get them truckin. LOL. Like Trans fluid (I missed how much you put in so maybe I'm just a tool) and maybe a set of wires and fresh plugs a carb kit with a bit of extra vitamins and minerals for that 5 quart 455 V8 Big block. But I LOVE IT!! THANK YOU!! PLEASE KEEP US UPDATED ON THIS CAR I HOPE YOU GUYS TO MAKE A SWEET MACHINE IF POSSIBLE!

Man you guys are like up to number 10 on the list to do things before you even turn a car over and you hadn't even bothered putting any lubrication in the cylinders of a vehicle that hasn't run in 46 years??? Shame on you, if there's any way to ruin the motor you two could probably do it.I'm pretty sure why I clicked off of your last video or maybe it was a few ago about that stretched out Chrysler and from what it looks like so far I may be clicking off of this one too.

@josephdangelo1503 Месяц назад
@@bigjohnson7415 that's why I don't watch his channel anymore because I don't care for the things that he does. You know everybody has their own opinion and that's mine there's a few channels that I stopped watching just because of the same thing. Nothing personal against them that's why they say you can choose to watch or not. Myself if I were doing with what they're doing with as many people as they have watching I would give every opportunity to the vehicle not to tear it up and make sure it survives. Have a blessed day my friend
@bigjohnson7415
@bigjohnson7415 Месяц назад
@@josephdangelo1503 Gotcha! I've seen all the big auto rescue channels pretty much so the same thing, but I agree that it would qualify as a "Best Practices" for revival's. It seems that they're only soaking those engines that are locked up, trying to break them loose. I remember a JYD video from years ago where he filled the whole block with diesel fuel to unstick a motor. I'd say it would depend on if the engine is either already ruined, or just that it's long-term condition isn't that big of a deal, as you have the knowledge, facility and tools to repair it, it won't be a major factor. But if it was me, I'd do everything to avoid exacerbating the condition, but that's just me.

Ok Karen’s, just watch and be glad it’s them and not you. I personally like stories like this. They try using minimalistic practices to try and get them home. Any old vehicle that they can save is one better than what you’re doing sitting a bitching about how you would do it. Get off your asses and do it better if you can. Everybody has to turn into Karen’s because they don’t agree with what they’re doing. Fuckin dipsticks

not going to complain about the things Im hearing most of these guys whining about. the small amount of cranking you did on that engine before you put gasoline/ trans fluid mix in it hurt nothing and the trans fluid down the gullet surely lubricated those cylinders just fine from that point on, the nay sayers just prove their ignorance when they whine that you didnt pull the plugs. it moved, wasnt stuck, was dry, got oil via the carb before firing, was then lubed, the maybe 20 revolutions before the oil got there did not damage a thing. if there was rust there, it was going to get damaged by the loose rust bits scratching whether oiled or not. common sense is not very common anymore. Before you all tell me im wrong, ask yourself how the cylinder of a 2 stroke gets lubricated, then keep your yaps shut so you do not look stupider than you already do. THEY LUBRICATED THE CYLINDERS BEFORE THEY RAN IT, they just didnt waste a bunch of time uselessly pulling plugs that didnt need to be removed. But hey, content makers, maybe next time when a rig doesnt want to start, after giving her some t-fluid 2 stroke fuel down the gullet, just use a squirt bottle of gasoline down the ol' bowl vent and fill the carb bowls and let the carb do carb things (if it will), at very least, it will start the process of loosening the crud thats plugging the carb up and soften and lubricate the accelerator pump. just a reminder that the bowl vent is there, and then will run a whole bowl of fuel before dying

ok, still not hating, but am laughing😂, want to know if it has oil pressure after sitting for 46 years? take the oil fill cap or pcv valve off the valve cover and look in the hole, is it wet with oil? yes? it has oil pressure. no? it doesn't.... simple. if unsure, look in hole with engine running, see oil splshing around, well, shes pumping it to the top, ya got pressure😂

Neat car, glad. You Guys pulled the pug and didn’t ruin the engine, those rims are from a much newer model, back in the day the only ones that would fit were factory because of the weird offset (for that time). I think your right probably a head gasket, probably gone before You Guys touched it, it would be neat to see this one hit the road, not a restoration but maybe a roadsteration?
