They didn't start out chunky! They looked pretty skinny and small. If you check out my Instagram, you'll see old photos of how they started. The trick is after about 3-4 months and the roots are well established, either bottom water it or fully soak it! Following my advice of course on when to water them and only give them morning sun. I swear, everytime they plump back up, they are bigger and you will see that there's always new growth sprouting! I'll share a dedicated care tips video on them one day for fertilizing, watering and acclimating. Thank you for going into so much detail on underwatered and properly watered plants. I don't understand why most RU-vidrs breeze through this aspect of plant care when it's stressed over and over in all the books that the most difficult part of growing succulents and cacti is getting the watering right. They just say water only when the soil is dry. Not only is it untrue, it is vague! I've been following that soak and dry method for years until I finally stumbled on to another RU-vidr who taught us viewers to listen to your plants. They will tell you when they are thirsty. This video gives me the details I need. thanks
You got the best explanation for watering succulents. And you're right, watering should depend on the condition or on the look of the succulent. It's always been said to water the succulent once the soil is completely dry but sometimes succulents doesn't really need water as long as their leaves are still full of water. I'm new to caring for succulents. I purchased a big group of them on the clearance rack at Lowe's Home Improvement. They were in really good shape and I separated them after a week or so. Mistakenly, I watered right away and even the next few days. LOL. So, I've learned not to drown them but I have one particularly that I'm concerned about so your video really helped me judge when to water. Thanks so much, USA
Yes, after repotting, they will always look a bit limp and soften up a bit. The trick is to leave them alone in a bright shaded area for a few days before watering and to slowly increase the amount of water you give overtime. Good luck with your succulents! Hi..thanks for the informative video! 1. Can i know if u water when the overall plant shows u signs its thirsty or just the bottom leaves? 2. For cuttings, understand that it takes a few soak and dry methods but mine has not plumped up (especially the bottom leaves) but the top/middle looks plump. Should i water if the soil is dry? 3. Could u share how you recognise whether a haworthia cooperi needs to be watered?
1. It depends on when I notice 😅 For SOP and crassula, yes, I wait for the whole plant to get wrinkly and thirsty. For echeverias and other rosettes, I let a few bottom leaves thin out before watering. 2. This is completely normal. Center leaves will always plump back up first. Yes, if outer bottom leaves are still wrinkly, always water again when the soil is dry until the whole plant plumps back up again. But always wait for the soil to completely dry between waterings! 3. I'll do a video on when to water haworthias soon. 💚😊

Great video Christine. Good thing watering is one activity that I hate doing so I never overwatered my plants 😅 But thanks for reminding me to water now. Most of my plants' bottom leaves are drying up. I think it's been over three weeks sonce I havent watered them.
