I need to evaluate my 6.5 Creedmoor using light for caliber bullets to verify Velocity, SD's ES's and Accuracy at the range first. then evaluate this data from my rifle against the 6 mm Creedmoor listed data in the Hornady Manual, to decide whether or not to buy the 6mm Creedmoor @ $$$$

Great video, but a good comparison IMO would actually be to match the ballistic coefficients of each cartridge. Say a BC of .600 on the 6.5 and a BC of .600 on the 6mm creed. Best speed, drop, drift, energy, Time of flight.

6.5 Creedmoor with the lower grain weight bullets to compare was an adequate comparison vs the Hornady Ballistic data for their 6mm 108 grain. Top grain weight for the 6mm is 115 + or - grain (Berger). The next step up on bullets I own for the 6.5 is 120 grain and those ballistic numbers definitely give the advantage to the 6mm 115 top grain weight Berger. As stated at the end of the video neither bullet should be used for "Hunting" medium game beyond 500 yards, so BC is not relevant. Thanks for watching and for your comment for me to re clarify.

Definitely an interesting idea to compare these two with the same bullet weight. I suspect that the main time that the 6mm would pull ahead is at long range, above 5-600 yards or so. I’m guessing that with the longer 6mm bullet compared to the 6.5 the shape (and therefore BC) become more of a factor. I’d like to test this myself whenever I can get to a very long range. Cool idea for a video.

Thanks for the video, there is always something to glean from others. Just like the surprise finding the 6.5mm 108 grain load that gouped well a nd had better than expected velocity - we don't know what the 6mm CR would have done except for Hornaday data. IMO it seemed your objective was trying to see if the 6.5 CR light for caliber bullet could approach 6mm CR heavier for caliber bullet velocity a d group. That in itself is a bit unfair comparison, however interesting to experiment and confess ive wondered the same thing. Nonetheless, like many have said the BC isn't a factor until 500Y or so, so a real balistics comparison would need to be conducted at long yardage to see if the both calibers and rifles held groups together at yardage without surprises. With that crosswind flapping your hat i can see that would be a tough at long yardage. Thanks for demonstrating the velocity and group potential of the 108grain load in the 6.5CR.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
Glad you got the intensions of my demonstration. Really though, it is to talk myself out of buying and all the load equipment for the 6mm Creedmoor, because I already own .243 Win. and 6mm ARC. that are shown in previous videos. Thanks for your comment and for watching.
@rustynut1967

BC, ES and SD aren't hardly a factor under 400 yards (within reason). This was a good example of that. Your speed didn't hardly change between 44.5 and 45.5. For long range that's the charge area (44.5) I would experiment with and seating depth. Good shootin and video! 👍👍

Mr Dave. Thank you for your video. I have learned from you and other RU-vidrs. Quick questions on your 6.5 grendel, what would be an ideal barrel length for long distance and precision? 20 or 24? I have a savage 6.5 creedmoor 22". I have been about to hit plate @ 770yds. What are 3 good inexpensive scopes to use for long distance I your opinion?
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 2 года назад
20 inch is more agile for hunting. 24 inch rings out the best velocity, so it's a toss up. Scopes are too specific to your shooting preference and scopes are specialized for hunting or target shooting. You need to do allot of research for your eyes and or needs. All of the name brand companies and some Chinese made scopes are made at different prize points to fit your wallet. Best of luck to you on your research.

That is good info to know I have the BMP 6.5 creedmoor myself never shot anything that light in it tho and I also have AR10 style rilfe in 6.5 creedmoor seems like 6mm creedmoor is really only good for the competition world for spotting shots and recoil but most of them are moving towards the 6 arc for that it seems x-ring has a very good video comparing the 6.5 creedmoor, 6mm creedmoor, and 6mm arc for that purpose

This video was only to "compare data of similar weight bullets." The two calibers do not equate and are very different, the .243 and .264 calibers are both great. I already own a .243 Win. and a 6mm ARC and they're demonstrated in my playlists. This comparison is to justify (to myself) whether or not to buy a 6mm Creedmoor HaHa! Thanks for watching and for your comment.

@@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 yeah that's what I was saying basically is that they do compare better than I thought, I had not looked into it much and that's why I thought your data was good to know (unless your wanting it for competition) then the light bullets are almost as good in 6.5 creedmoor and I don't shoot competition myself so that data was good to know cause I had considered 6mm creedmoor myself but with what your data shows I don't think I'll worry anymore about it cause I have a .243 bolt gun and a .243 AR10 so there's really no need for the 6mm creedmoor so thanks for the information is was a good video 👍

@@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 i like it tho it definitely seems to have alot more pressure than the .308 ar10 or 6.5 creedmoor which I have all 3 and it's seems the smaller the bore gets the more the pressure it has so I had to get a adjustable gas block which was expected and then I had to get the downsized firing pin Channel bolt which I did but it still seemed to be to much for the primer and brass so I got the toolcraft bcg with the dual ejection and the ejectors are a lil bit smaller on that bolt and that fixed the ejector smear and primer crater and blown primer then I put a 6.8 ounce buffer in it and it now does good it took alot of time effort and money tho to get it where it is today but now it shoots good I've got a 1/8 twist so it stabilizes the heavy projectiles good ive even got it to shoot the 115gr nosler RDF bullets good at 100 yards don't have any long range places to really shoot but I like it shoots good alot less recoil than the .308 rilfe

@jb-dc1tt 2 года назад
Nice groups! Was the recoil lighter with those smaller bullet weights? One of the reasons for going to a 6creed is less recoil which helps you see what you hit and re engage if need be.

@@jb-dc1tt 6 ARC has less velocity, but uses the same longer higher BC bullets that are newer to the market as the 6 Creedmoor. The 243 win with the traditional 1-10 twist rate barrel is suitable for the 100 grain and lighter bullets. The 6 Creedmoor is highly touted by the PRS and long range folks. For me personally, as a hunter, the 25-06 rem with 100 grain to 120 grain bullet fills the nitch between 243 and 264 calibers very well indeed. My personal opinion only not withstanding.

It has been my experience that Winchester primers are softer and therefore more prone to deform even under normal pressures. Why would you not compare wind drift? From 300 yards to 500 yards is where you are really going to see it effect the bullet. There is big difference in BC's of the 107 6.5mm bullet and the 107 6mm bullet. This seems like it is a inconclusive and insufficient test.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 2 года назад
Wind deflection is too much of a variable. Speed is measurable by my Magnetospeed . Bullet weight can be verified. BC can not be verified at least by me as I do not own the laboratory tools. @@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 you say BC can't be verified and is the reason you're not using it to compare wind drift, yet you used it for your drop and to compare a rifle you didn't shoot.
