15psia IS NOT WRONG psia stands for psi absolute The "a" is there for a reason. Our atmosphere is around 14-15 psia. Full vacuum is not negative pressure it is 0 psia. Standard psi is pressure or vacuum relative to the current atmospheric pressure. Space is 0 psia. The gravity of earth pulls the atmosphere down on us causing atmospheric pressure.
So essentially the map scale should be read exactly the wat it is meaning if timing is taken out is should be done at the beginning of the table nd not at 14?
The MAP is an Absolute Pressure sensor. 0bar being a perfect vacuum and going up from there. 1 bar is roughly atmospheric pressure, around 15PSI. The 2bar sensor has a TOTAL RANGE of 2bar. If you reference off of atmospheric pressure you get 1 bar of vacuum and 1 bar of boost. When you clicked on the thing to select which one it has psia (the a refers to absolute). PSIG would be gauge pressure which would read 0PSI when the motor is off. Hope I don't sound like i'm an ass, love your vids.
Hey Matt. I know this is an old video but I’ve been searching around for a tutorial like this but for the 6014 box. This helped a lot but if you we’re do do one for the 6014 I think it would be great. Not much info out there yet and the only one I found on RU-vid was brutal to say the least.
Pause the video at 1:32 The software only mentions psia. If it said psiG then it would go from -14 to 14 on a 2bar sensor. psiG is GAUGE pressure. Since 14PSI is considered atmospheric pressure and we live and breathe that we just call it 0psiG.
i would only run approx 22deg in a ls1 or ls2 with a cam, at the most on 93 octane that is where it will make peak power. drop it to 18deg for a 150 shot
Hello yes I just purchased an MSD 26 Al programmable I was wondering if you had a tutorial for a 5.0 with an mp1 supercharger setup that I can actually start with
He said the same about the range of map sensors. But the scale give 2 bars of boost avaible on the scale when you choose a 2 bars (total range) absolute pressure sensor, wich is impossible. so,where do you see psi a and psi a ? i would like to understand what you said.
Sorry dude, I'm with frank1380 on this one. I agree with you that the scaling they show is stupid, unclear, and potentially misleading, but it's not wrong. The dropdown clearly shows psia, not psig.
Why do you choose to use MSD over MS for spark control? Does it work out to less cost, or less effort? both? I agree that the scaling is misleading to new users... they should label the axes in various units.
I have a msd 6014 and I have a ls1 with twin carbs and a blow through carb. what would be a good baseline to start on as far as timming.. starting at 200 rpm all the way to 7000.. I hope you can help thatnks
I have the 6AL2 programmable version for a 92 LX 5.0 oh stang. so my questions is do I need to have the map sensor connected or is that only for boosted application that it is needed? Mild 300hp motor with basic mods where should I start with the timming? Finally the distributor needs to be set at max timming as you mentioned correct?
i'm putting together a carb'd 6.0L LQ9 with 243 heads, should be around 10.8 compression. I've been researching on how to program this thing and its still WAAAY over my head.
what would be a good base curve for a stock LQ4 6.0 with ls6 cam and edelbrock intake and 750 carb. using a 2 bar sensor. car idles and revs perfect in neutral, but when the car is in drive it hesitates and falls on its face under a load like taking off or power breaking. not sure if its a carb or igniton issue. sorry if my question sounds vague but a carbed LS engine is new to me and just trying to get the car to run. thanks
hey sloopy can you help me? I'm running a ls 5.3 bored to 347, its a carb motor with a nice cam, but I have no idea how to use this software, mine is a 6012 box, can you give me some pointers on what you think would be a good set up? thanks
What's the best tune for a stock LS I just got the car running the other day so now its time to to get the computer out and make it run a little better
Hi hope you can help me? I got a 6010 box. But I can't open the 6010 file to tune my Ls1. I see a lot of files but not the 6010 file? Any idea what's going on. Or maybe I just got a bad box or Software and my Ls is Backfiring through the carb. Thanks
i have 427 sbc big roller cam carb headers ect. could you point me in right direction on a crve st start off with? I am not sure how this software works. thanks
I got a 6al2 programmable from a friend and put it in my truck with a mild 429 I didn't get any directions on how to run it its in and my truck is running but that's it I need help I have no idea how to programme it. HELP
So how much timing should you shoot for at idle with a bone stock 5.3 no turbo? And how much total timing wot? And at what rpm should it all be in by? Please shine some light lol
So I just hooked up my cpu and box and I have been playing with waht you first said. I would like some info in dialing in a good tune for a ls with stock parts just hooker header and carbed with edlbrock 600 cfm. Any tips would be great as I am new to this.
Mott, I've got a shit ton of questions but for now,- at the current time do you still recommend a 6010 in combination with MS 1,2,or 3? I am building something similar to your buddy's iroc, twin 5.3 but want to keep it unassuming like your Squaremont's, i.e. no cage etc. Your Ms videos date back a couple years so I was wondering if, starting from scratch would you would still use the MSD, oh yeah data loggin is very important me as well and I know in one of your vids you state the MS data logging is not so good..? Thanks for all your post
at this stage i would recommend the Microsquirt V3 set up for LS engines from EFI source, they pre-mod the motherboard, then you can build your own harness or buy a plug and play harness from them. megasquirt datalogging is great.
Bar is another unit for pressure. 2 bar just means it reads up to 29 psi. 1 bar = 14.5 psi. 1 bar for vacuum and 1 bar for boost like you said makes absolutely zero sense.
Where is your shop at? I'm in North east pa. Near Pottsville. I'm going to be building a 79 fox with a 5.3 and twins. Would love to bring it over after its done. Small tire street driven. Another question with the mega squirt can you control boost via speed reference. Like if I went to Numidia and I had poor track conditions to slow the power ramp down
ah well i am in allentown, and its my friends dyno, i dont own a shop i just mess with cars for fun, i wouldnt mind tossing it on the dyno when you are ready, yes, newer versions of megasquirt can run time based boost control, you could also eliminate the 6010 box since ms2 and up can control the coils
in the older videos its what we used because it was easier and we didnt know how to do the rest, as we learned we started using more of the higher end megasquirt things and making them work with what we have. now we use Micro or MS3 for the ls motors
