Nice clean install. Only issue I see, is re-using the factory fitting on the inlet side of the pump. The OEM pre-pump push lock fittings are notorious for sucking air. If you have a regulated return, you should be fine.

Very good idea, sir. I have the 1/4 tank issue. I just ordered a new fuel sending unit from XDP. Whenever I'm parked in my sloped driveway, I get the low fuel light. I figure the vehicle is 24 years old, so it's s due. I like your idea better. I'll have to add this to mine.

Thank you so Much, for how to do this. I was NOT wanting drop that tank.... there had to be a "Better Way" and you showed me how to do it. 2/27/2023, yup, late to the show.

Glad it helped, it’s a great alternative as long as your sending unit still works and reads correct. Thanks for watching.

Make sure to get all those plastic pieces out. We have (5) 7.3's and have dropped the tank on all of them to remove the pick up screens and socks, then installed frame mounted filters like you have done. Ran into an issue with one of the trucks starving for fuel and found the brass fitting at the frame mounted filter was plugged up with the plastic pieces from the tank not being completely cleaned out.

Very nice alternative upgrade. You could possibly install a shut off valve in line for long term storage or as a anti-theft deterrent.

I like coming up with a permanent solution to a problem. You can replace the strainer if you want but it will happen again at some point.

Nice video... much appreciated. I grew up helping my dad work on all kinds of stuff. Learned a lot over the years and some was from the school of hard knocks. Just a couple suggestions... get you a face shield when using that cut off wheel without the guard. I use my grinders the same way, all the time, but I know of two people that have been to the ER after their blades shattered. Also, get that man a big pair of vice grips or a C-clamp on that drill press. Can't count the times I've had my fingers tore up when the drill bit gets bound up. I know, I sound like a Karen... just trying to help... Curious, is there access to the top of the tank (sending unit) without removing the tank? Possibly, cutting the floor the same as you did in this video?

Awesome video need to do that to my truck what 2 post lift do you have I'm wanting to purchase one but don't know what size for a 99 7.3 f350 crew dually?
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Год назад
It’s a Forward 10k, which is actually a division of Rotary. It’s a symmetrical lift. I’ll look up the exact model number when I get in the shop after church.

I'm thinking of adding a sump and a inline filter. Wouldn't this delete the need for the fuel bowl that blocks the hpop oil pump on the 7.3 engine Valley? I want to remove the fuel bowl permanently and I think a sump to inline filter would do that but I don't know what the wire connector does on the fuel Bowl?
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Год назад
Fuel bowl heater. I would run more than a inline filter I would double filter with a quality filter.

Sorry where did you get the sump parts from for some reason I can't find them
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Месяц назад
@@aaroneldridge8117 the sump is the mini XDP sump, it came from full force diesel. The hose, fittings, filter and filter base came from oreillys.

I know you probably won’t see this but how hard/easy was it cutting the skid plate I am thinking of doing the same thing for my 05 excursion since I’m adding a Fass system thanks if you respond and for the good video
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage 10 месяцев назад
I always try to respond. It’s not hard cutting I think I mentioned in the video just working through it slowly to make sure you don’t nick the tank
@ericbalmes3820
@ericbalmes3820 4 месяца назад
Did you end up doing the sump with the fass? I am looking to do the same with my 05 but was leaning towards using the straw pickup that comes with the fass to avoid cutting the plate until I saw this video

Do you have a video that explains the 1/4 tank issue? Never heard of this farm with a 99.5 7.3 97,000 mi
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Год назад
Kinda, I have 2 other videos involving installing some sumps. Basically what I showed in this video as far as showing that the pickup degrades and brakes off so then you can’t use your last 1/4 tank of fuel. The breakdown of the plastic from the pickup can then get caught up in the tube that causes a drop in fuel pressure along with smaller pieces and trash stopping up the 2 screen filters on the factory pickup. The sump eliminates all that and makes the tank nearly a maintenance free thing unless the sending unit goes out which is slim to none with these sending units. Thanks for watching.

Will this work with dual fuel tanks 97 F350 with the mechanical fuel pump? I'm having some similar issues.
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage 5 месяцев назад
99-03 7.3s were electric fuel pumps. You can still have fuel pickups break and deteriorate on the obs also. I would look into the E fuel setup on a obs.
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage 5 месяцев назад
I’ve never installed a sump on a metal tank, I’m sure it can be done.

Is there a shut off on the filter to keep the fuel from siphoning out when you unscrew it?
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Год назад
No I just have the new filter ready or use my hose clamping tool to clamp the line off.
@johnbohannon8833
@johnbohannon8833 Год назад
Do you leave the filter in the fuel bowl and have two filters
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Год назад
Correct. The remote filter I added takes the place of the pickup screen and 2 filter screens on the sending unit. The main purpose is to prevent damage to you fuel pump.
