It's a gift for us tbh. The larger the audience, the worse the audience. The algorithm is pushing it now to us because we are similar in some way. That makes for a targeted in depth conversation to be had in the comments. Plucking the weeds to allow the flowers to grow. I've never even seen this beautiful woman before, but alas, our algorithm overlords blessings runneth over for once.

The bassist is Mohini Dey, 27 years old & born in West Bengal, India. She has collaborated with the likes of Steve Vai, Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Ruddess, British jazz guitar phenom Guthrie Goven, and so many more here on RU-vid. Her work with Dewa Budiana performing traditional Balinese styles on jazz rock steroids is brilliant. And now with Willow! Rick Beato pronounces this to be the future of Pop music. One can but hope.

I love progressive pop. The mix of catchy songcraft with the more complex elements is just pure ear candy to me. I never would have expected it from one of Will Smith's kids, but I'm definitely going to have to check out the album when it drops next week.

I think she plays all of them to create the song, then gets them recorded by professional players. So, she records the demo, but her playing's not featured on the final track. Since she's not usually credited in the band.

Willow's the most talented out of the lot of them, even more than her parents. It's a shame about all the noise and drama around them. It's kind of like she's obviously gotten her opportunity and platform being a nepo baby but unlike most nepos, she's only lasted and grown as an artist the longer she's been out there.

Sound not unfamiliar. I hear vibes of neo-soul/acid jazz like Amel Larrieux, Kam Franklin, Jill Scott and N'dea Davenport. After hearing this song I was curious to listen to the album which is newly released which features Jon Batiste. Promising talent indeed.

Im happy this is here Beth, I have been spreading this as much as I can. It has been a very long time since something new has excited me this much, I hope this ends up being a seed for coming musicians that moves us away from simplistic loops, nauseating rhythmic 'hooks', meaningless lyrics that are bleached into blandness by autotune. This is creativity, this is art, this is style, funk, depth and smart. Bold, refreshing, exciting. Fingers crossed, but I've been happy in the moment each time hearing this. ' the fear is not real ' also takes my breath away. Bravo, WIllow and co!

In the pre chorus where you mentioned it sounded like maybe a time signature change, it seems like a slight change in pattern with a cluster of notes that over two bars still equal 14. Which builds up the tension even more, waiting for the release in the 4/4 of the chorus. Crazy! I loved your analysis and your facial expressions, you can feel the joy of discovering the song.

This is the music that makes me feel self conscious. I'm so jealous that it is sooo good and I love it so much, that I resent myself for not having thought of anything close to this, ever. I have a brain, hands, own all of the same instruments and the ability to play and record them all, yet these kids that barely graduated from school come and make sublime music out of thin air, just like that. Dave Brubeck would've enjoyed this. And the sound, the mic-ing of the drums, feels so proper and natural, like a continuation of the golden age of recording, not abusing effects. Just great, and I mean, flabbergasting, mixing skills. Where did these kids learn?? I feel like the critic in the Rataouille movie, when he tries the rat''s dish and he is transported to his childhood, when I heard this song.

It's not Willow on bass and drums. Apparently on some songs she and her collaborators started with the drum track, then added the bass and then added vocal and the rest including guitar she was reluctant to add. The Tiny Desk concert is: MUSICIANS Willow Smith: vocals Liso Lee: guitar, vocals Zach Tenorio: keys Mohini Dey: bass Taylor "The Pocket Queen" Gordon: drums Mohini Dey I know has already been getting a lot of attention her own for the Indian music influenced bass playing. Rick Beato just interviewed her. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DmC2QQESN6E.html
