7.4v 2S Lipo Battery Repair - Quick and Easy - [Don't Throw Your Shorted Lipos Away]

This is a fairly simple way to repair your stock 7.4v 2s Lipo battery that you may have which came with your stock mini JJRC H8C quadcopter or other r/c vehicle. If you accidentally short the leads some how you will think the battery is useless. Instead of throwing it away you can open it up and bypass the circuit board inside to use it again. The battery won't last as long of a life without the balance circuit board in it but at least you can use it many times before it dies.

I have shorted some batteries trying to test out adding an fpv camera with various step up boards. I have only just found out myself there was nothing wrong with the batteries just the chips. You can also actually buy replacement chips from aliexpress. I haven't found the right sized replacement boards though. ALSO very important, don't rip the nickel from the aluminium pole of the battery or its going to be impossible to resolder without extra special aluminium alkaline corrosive flux. The chips to look for are probably: 8205A DW01A

Ok. You should just resolder black wire to the other contact. You should also remove the circuit and just solder three wires balancing port on and then charge it with lipo charger

Just be carefull and not over charge the thing. I guess there is also a chance that the copter itself could catch on fire and burn if there is a short in it somewhere. But I won't lie, if I had no other battery, I would certainly do the same thing. Nice video man.

The same thing happened to me, I blew that fuse, I would like to know if by doing that, it would help me to make my drone work again, the battery is 3.7 v 600mah, if I put it directly, it would open some problem

Hi there. Do you by any chance know of a motor type that would work for the JJRC H8C and will last for more then just a few flights? I am tired of replacing motors every 10 flights or so...

+Jack Scarpon Unfortunately this is the downfall of the H8C... a nice powerfull 7.4v system with motors being week point. Not sure if a manufacturer has made more durable motors in this size yet sorry.

Go ahead and bypass all the protection circuits, that should turn your little toy into a roman candle and also burn down whatever it lands on. The replacement battery is only $8.00. Don't forget to put the fire out with water!!!

Hey Dustin. I want to ask, does the battery still work after you accidentally short the leads?? Cus in my case i accidentally cut both leads at the same time and it had a spark.. After i rejoint the wires, the battery still works and i can recharge it too, but i dont know if thats ok or not. Does the short surely blows up the chip oranything on the board ?? Or r there any chances of being lucky ?? Thanks bud .

+zakir mohammad I think you were lucky. That's what I did and it fried the chip so I had to do this mod...lol. yours should be ok.

Hi Dustin, I charge Lipo batteries with IMAX B6, but when I connect one of them 7,4V the charger indicates 1SER and not 2SER. It means that one of the poles is dead and only one of them is loaded?. I could fix this battery in the same way that you show?.

You can open and check connections. Also if lipos are discharged too low they can show wrong cell count. You could try charging a little at 1s then switch to 2s and see if it sees the correct cells.

ladamw1967 There's no balancing port, so how can charger know the number of batteries? It's all done internally with chip.

Plug it into a smart charger and charge it. It will not last as long. But it will work fine for a while until you get a new battery.

as long as you connect correctly as shown in video, the MAH does not matter. yes.

Please could you help me? I replaced the receiver board for JJRC H26W but or whatever reason the motor is turning the other way (which means air's been thrown downward thus not producing any lift). I am 100% sure I connected everything correctly as I took pictures before removing the damaged board. I swapped the propellers but still didn't help. Thanks in advance.

but u can try to swap polarity at Lipo but be careful dont cut wires together cuz it will short

Good but please remember you loose the 2s lipo inbuilt balance charging circuit so it requires a seprate leads and not recommended for its own original device although it can be use independentely with balance leads anywhere....................

Hey Dustin Dunnill im thinking about getting the jjrc h8c but ive seen many reviews complain about motors failing and then after replacing them having thoes motors fail after a few flights is this true? How many motors have failed for you and after how many flights as i may not bother if motors failing is going to be a frequent thing?

I've had 2 fail after about 20 or so initial flights. replaced all 4 and haven't had a failure in about 12 flights. I think the motors just have high rate of quality issues and some people get lemons. You can find them for about 2 bucks a peace do if they last around 20 flights and your capable of changing them I think its still worth it for how great the H8C fly's.

I have had a JJrc H8 since January, it ran OK for a month.Then one motor failed. Ordered 4 Changed one then another went.Then another.Ordered 4 more. All from China that takes weeks to arrive. This quad does burn out motors. On reflection I would not recommend it. Even though it flies well in higher winds than say the Syma x5-1 can handle.I was thinking of getting the WL toys V636, when I got the Jjrc H8, I wish I had.

Yes but you should watch it carefully since it can no longer balance. Don't leave it fully charged or discharged when not using it. Keep half charged when stored and in fireproof bag/box 🍻

My man i did da same thing but not da battery mine I accidentally touch the two wires inside of the Drone the ones you connect the battery to it popped out the red one popped out I wanted to solder a bag I accidentally touched it to the black one it smoked burning smell too =/ just stopped I never fucking. Didbthis stuff I don't know now you might just make drone Day ho do you think is it confusing when you get it

Can anyone give me any Info on weather or not I can used a cordless phone battery in a RC helicopter thanks .The battery from my rc helicopter is rated at 7.4v and 680Mah the battery from my cordless phone is rated at 3.6volts and 1300Mah

Hey Kenton. The voltage would not work. Best to stay with the power requirements of your r/c spec. Also the larger battery would throw off the weight balance and it might not fly or fly different even if the voltage was the same. I would just get another hobby grade battery which matches your R/C.

ok thank u very much sir,i did try it just to see ,it did work but the battery was to low to even move the heli,sorry am having a hard time finding any battery for my (protocol heli raider)or even a comfortable battery that will fit

Hey Kenton, sounds about right. Your trying to use 3.7v on a heli that requires 7.4v. It needs the higher voltage for more powerful lift. I would measure the dimensions of your battery compartment and look for something that will fit (maybe eBay?). Your looking for 7.4v 2s lipo. If you can't find one with proper connector you may have to solder or crimp your own to make connection work.

Id recommend disposing of the battery because its not worth it i have a friend who has a airsoft gun thats a aeg an his charger melted from the battery malfunctioned so id say do not use a malfunctioning battery or a short circuit battery cuz rc an airsoft gun do use the same type of batterys theres a number of things that could happen one is the battery can pop an releases smoke toxic smoke two it could explode an cause bodily harm or it could just burn up an catch on fire just spend the money on a new one to bad you cant get a core charge on um lol

While I appreciate the time and effort for these type of videos, I would be hesitant in offering advice telling people to bypass a circuit designed to protect and prevent these batteries failing or catching fire....

Shunting the safety circuit is dangerous! You can do it, but be careful of overcharging fire risk!

Your right. Although larger lipos don't have this type of circuit board and have a balance wire instead. These are there to make up for the crappy charger and no balance wire. Definitely charge these on a smart charger for longest life after this mod.

+Dustin Dunnill Dobermandan is right. Dustin, you're also right that most lipos don't have circuit boards, but most 2 or more cell lipos do have a balance plug for charging individual cells. As the battery pack ages, individual cells often degrade at different rates. When charging 2S or more in series, without balance charging, If one cell can't be charged up to 4.2v, the other cells will get overcharged (and possibly explode). So in your 7.4v lipo's case, let's say one cell goes bad and can't be charged correctly. The other cell has to take up the "slack" because the whole pack will be charged up to 8.4v, rather than each cell being charged up to 4.2v. And without a balance plug, there's no way of checking if the individual cells are balanced. So Dobermandan is not joking when he says you're risking burning down your house. This is very serious, so please do some more research if you're still not clear on it. If a 2S pack doesn't have a balance plug, then there's a very good reason it has a circuit board, and bypassing it is asking for trouble. Don't do it.

Zviki, you need to read my whole comment again. I said, "individual cells often degrade at different rates." These lipos usually get worse and worse rather than just suddenly dying. This is what causes the problem without a balance plug or a circuit board.

Given what's now common knowledge about the potentially incendiary potential of these batteries, it seems highly irresponsible to recommend on an open YT video that anyone should consider doing what you're doing here. The chip on that board would not be there if it wasn't needed for the safe functioning of the battery! Wonder how many house fires you're indirectly responsible for? Unless youre nuts you should take this albeit well meaning clip down sir.

Oh my jeezus, was just reading thru all the comments and when I read this one, my cup "boileth over!" There are so many do-gooders commenting on here that it just makes me laugh. Every person in this world acts on their own free will (well, for the most part), and I would also assume that many people clicked on this vid (based on the title) to find some type of short cut or cheap way to make their batts work a little longer before having to buy more. Of course there is inherent risks in doing this, as is stated many times, but to each his/her own decision...this is information only people. YOU alone choose to do with it what you may. Same principle behind the "kill a cop" lyrics in a certain rappers video that were deemed expression of speech by a U.S. federal court , or books like The Anarchist Cookbook, etc. Not only a principle but an amendment to our constitution (in the U.S.) protects those liberties, as well as this video. In closing, I suggest that all you "safety first" do-gooders go hug a tree and quit posting comments on RU-vid. .................good day. ;-)

That battery is so small, it won't do serious damage to you. Also: how would you ever short out a battery for more than a second? The bigger risk here is that if one cell degrades differently from the other one and you charge it up without a balance lead it will overcharge and possibly burn (or what you call ''explode'')
