This came up on recommended today and you have earned a sub. Love your tone of voice and attitude. MM is my new favorite game and have already put over 80h in it. Have been using various tactics, like you, to get to high scores, like blocking with roads to force different spawns, mostly with success. Have managed to get, on average, to between 5k to 10k on all the maps apart just 2, Dar es Salaam and Mexico. Non of it work there for some reason, could not get past 3k no matter how many times I've tried. What did work was just to let the game do its thing and that allowed for higher scores of 6k - 7k. Weird. So far my highest score is 21113 on Manila with 28th rank. Profoundly proud of that :). Keep up the good work, your channel will grow in no time, I'm sure of that.

Every single long road that’s meant for blocking spawns could use half the roads and it will still work. Just make a dashed line with half gaps instead of gaps that are a full square

That you sacrificed a second bridge (that you needed quite a few times) for the second pink house instead of rerouting blue a bit higher and routing second pink house to merge with first pink house drove me bonkers while watching haha other than that, great run!

Great run! I noticed at the end there when you rerouted highway 8 for the whites, that they didn't even need that highway. That would have freed up a highway to help alleviate the yellow issue that doomed you. Again though, solid run

The start is a great example why you need to claim space with your roads, so there's room to replan the network, later.

you can also connect your roundabouts to the entrance of the mall and the highways to the other side, given that you have the space. Would have been a great solution @28:41

Finally!!! After the boom of the game recently I've been watching so many people abandon the idea of arterials! You actually do the segregation of mini motorways and the arterial feeding of traditional city planning. Well done.

You can ~double the number of tiles you cover with roads if you take the time to do it piecewise rather than connected. Like if 4 tiles in a row are ABCS, connect A&B and C&D, but don't connect B&C.

Yellow could have been more manageable by avoiding 4ways. Also most of the motorways created a 4way as well. You can spot them on roads with clot like traffic. Not a magic cure but an extra .5-1k more easily. Pink had a cyan spawn making a 4way and would have been the next most fatal. Blocking houses is a decent start but requires real time management and is too stressful making you burnout faster. It's best to only block buildings from spawning on islands.

if you make the blocking roads disconnected from each other you can cover more ground for blocking spawns

Hey, thanks for a great video. Are you able to expand upon the trick of using roads to prevent spawn? In regard to, for example, how many tiles in an area need to be covered to prevent a spawn? Is there a trick to do it more efficiently? I'm always worried that a few buildings will pop up inbetween where I place the temporary roads. @1:40, you have lots of wavy roads, would it not be possible for anything to spawn between them, or you mainly place them there to prevent the large building from spawning there? Very impressive to get 7K+ trips. I haven't even came close to that yet! Maybe one day

Not a bad run. If you could have blocked that top island you might have gone somewhat further. I imagine there is a sweet spot of how many destinations you have on the map once it's full, not enough and the pressure on the existing destinations might be too high. Those bridges you made for the 2 pinks just north of the river was hilarious when you could have just diverted the road above them to allow them to connect. I love the idea of making the game find new spawn areas for a house colour even if your execution in the bottom left didn't work very well and yet the game paid you off by spawning a purple/blue destination right next to them anyway. I try to predict what colour destination is most likely to come out. It gets a bit hard later in the game but half way is ok. It tends to spawn a destination that you already have an over supply of houses for the existing destinations of that colour. In that way you can try to make it spawn the destination in an existing neighborhood of the same colour - but it’s not an exact science.

Little tip for you: you can use spacebar to pause the game so you don't have to bring your mouse all the way to the top corner whenever you want to pause.

I don’t know about you guys(including all in comments), but I always nicknamed the businesses. For example, red =Tesco and green = Asda and so on. This went on until Dubai and Rio and Mexico, where the businesses were tan and orange and grey and I didn’t bother researching which businesses associated with those colours…

I've noticed that if you have an intersection of 4 or more the cars slow down? Is that just sometimes, or should I actively avoid 4way intersections?

I trust that you are much better at this game than I am, as I am an armchair watcher... but watching you continuously miss the fact you could have connected the blue houses up top to the "blocking" road one tile up, and then connected the pinks with a road and not a bridge, was driving me absolutely crazy.

It seems that achieving a high score requires to feed places with the right amount of houses, avoiding cross-connections if possible. But that makes me sad because, can we really call it a city if a given place or house can't be reached from all others?

This game is basically suburban sprawl. In real life, you follow a road hierarchy. That’s the best road layout efficiency, Which means the collector roads will absorb the most traffic (that’s what they are designed to do: COLLECT TRAFFIC) and cars will get off the collector roads and onto a street that will lead them do the destination. These “streets” are what’s called Local roads. These streets supposed to have more intersections than collector roads and shouldn’t create more traffic than collector roads. Now, do not connect a highway to a local road because it will create traffic. Do you want hundreds of cars driving on your street every day? And backed up? I thought so. Connect them to the collector roads (again they COLLECT TRAFFIC, they will absorb the most traffic). Follow this road hierarchy and you will get automatic 5k. Another example is your body’s anatomy. Look at your arteries, that’s where the blood travels faster and branches off to veins, where less and less traffic occurs. You don’t want traffic on your veins, they will burst or clogged. You don’t want blood clots. You don’t want anything that slows your blood flow.

I always name the colors after flavors Vanilla Banana Bubblegum Blueberry Grape ...that kind of thing

Motorways can be used as bridges, so I would always pick a motorway over a bridge.

I see you block with long lines of roads. if you do single roads you block more than long lines of roads. Since a single road will be two spaces. But 2 roads connected only takes up 3 spaces. 3 roads 4 spaces etc. you might know this just thought I’d tell you.
