Former Mayor Max Townsend was fully against placing the Quite Zone in. The major concern was Pedestrian traffic. On day one of Woody Jacobs being mayor of Cullman he worked to get the Quite Zone Crossing approved & built. Woody Jacobs & the Council have not addressed those concerns at all from my contact that is close to the mayor & council. Another friend of Mine who knows the Mayor has asked if the City is going to place police officers at the crossing during events & was told no plans at this time. I hate to put it like this but it will most likely take a death during events like OctoberFest to get the City to enact Pedestrian Control. I also have been saying that the city for years has needed to build another Pedestrian Overpass between the Police Station & the Farmers Market. In 2016 & 2017 I helped OctoberFest with Pedestrian Control at Arnold ST. When i was present I had only 1 issue one time & thankfully then I had a officer near by & 2 people were given a ticket for tresspassing on railroad property. Also Note The United Way is no longer in the Depot. I have also seen on Google Maps Street View that CSX has been updating switch equiptment in the yard. Also heard last year CSX brough in the Brush Cutter & cleared out the Spur that went to the Walmart Dist Center Im hoping that CSX & the City come to an agreement to Install crossing gates(not a Quite Zone) at Mitchell RD & hopefully come to an agreement to end the city ordance 35 MPH that is enforced between MP 341.1 to the MP 338.3.
Sad this crossing is almost upgraded, i hope they reuse the WCH mechanical at least elsewhere since there is an NEG E-Bell, if not i hope someone can save it, cus i would hate to see a perfectly working Mechanical bell be scraped. Nice video btw
