In today's video, I share 7 Beginner Candidate Mistakes to Avoid. When you first start interviewing, it can be pretty easy to make mistakes. After all, being a candidate is pretty hard. Most candidates dont have anyone telling them how to interview and the way most candidates actually learn is through experience, which can be quite painful. But if you can learn what these mistakes are, you can avoid them and shortcut your journey to getting a job offer.

The majority of managers always enjoy hitting you with trick questions such as “what did you dislike about your last job” or “why’d you leave your last job”. 💯

100%! My video tomorrow addressed that actually!

I disagree with reaching out to them after the interview because that just demonstrates major desperation. If you feel like you have to do that then you didn’t get the job. Move on to the next job after you walk out those doors. On average, it should never take them more than 2 days to get back to you. 💯

I disagree on both parts. I don’t think reaching out is negative if done correctly and often it takes longer than two days, that’s just hiring for you. It would be better if it was quicker, but it’s just not how it always is.

Sending a post-interview email is perfectly fine. But after you send that email move on.

In this situation, honesty is not always the best policy. Even if you got fired, never tell them that either. You should never give them any reason to disqualify you. Yeah people get fired every single day but that’s too much information. Remain as positive as possible no matter how irritating they become. 💯

The reason you ask the hiring manager questions is because you are interviewing them as well. They won't hire you if they don't like your answers or atittude, so the same applies to them.

If I know the members of the team and the hiring manager that are going to interview me, is adding as a connection on LinkedIn before the interview a good idea? Or should I wait till after? Or simply not add and just view their public profile?

I would go ahead and add them. It shows that you are preparing. Just don’t send messages, that might be just a bit too eager. Good question!
