How about the beginning of Dishonored? After taking out a bunch of assassins, Corvo just stands there silently while the Spymaster frames him for murder. Then, he does nothing to prevent getting bopped in the face by a guard.

at the end of Frontline chapter in Metro 2033 Artyom got Knocked out and Beat up by TWO guards. after Killing Dozens of Enemies in the chapter all by Himself

The opposite of this can also be annoying, where a hero is suddenly so badass in a cutscene that you're just, "why can't you do this during actual gameplay!?" Jack from Mass Effect two easily destroying giant supermechs is one example.

Every Assassin’s Creed game. There is always at least one fight per game where you are winning, then a cut scene interrupts where you suddenly stop attacking, the baddie gets the upper hand, and you lose the fight because the game says so.

Black Flag. Usually only you and your (hired or rescued) crew swarm the deck of the ship you're boarding. But while I'm kicking ass above the main sail, a cutscene starts. I'm now back on the enemy ship deck next to my good friend Blackbeard. This guy was safely screaming from next to MY ship's wheel a split second ago. Now he is getting swarmed on the enemy deck and slashed in the back (and killed) by some opportunist. My character then stands there in shock and gets thrown into the sea by some brute.

I'd like to bring up SO MANY Mass Effect cutscenes where Shepard, the best solider in the galaxy, forgets how to shoot straight: -Misses a scientist trying to destroy an asteroid so the reapers can arrive FROM 5 METRES. -Misses Kai Leng as he slowly runs away. -Sits calmly in a car that Leng is running around on top of. -Hides from a gunship that is identical to thousands he/she shot down.

what i hate even more than that, is when you fight a boss, and you are destroying him, but just before you have finished him. the story script jumps in and MAKES you lose. just so they can re-use the boss later on.

an older game called Xenosaga the character KOS-MOS made her badass combat debut with a ton of moves and I was pleasantly surprised she only used moved available as abilities in game, Nice rare moment. Now something that would be an example of what you are suggesting would be Mass Effect 2 where Jack punches 3 super mechs apart but gets shredded in game if near one.

Far Cry 5. Dozens of times in the game. To the point where you are literally not allowed to just shoot the bad guy in the face. One of the most infuriating things ever devised in a video game.

I really wanted an ending where I shoot that motherfucking wacko preacher. And that nuke ending came as a complete surprise, because I didn't listen to the radio. There's one rare broadcast that will tell you about the situation in advance, and it's easy to miss as something unimportant.

far cry 3 has you keep being bested in a cutscene by a few guys after taking out a ton of guys and this happens quite a few times in the game

Final Fantasy X, when you storm the wedding. The mooks' guns do minor damage to you, but once the cutscene starts, you surrender once those guns are pointed at you.

Anybody else remember the end of the Dark Brotherhood story in Oblivion. When the guy betrayed the Dark Hand. Then slowly turned to his right to kill a guy. Then did a slow 180 to kill a second guy. And the Hero of Kvatch, Arena Champion, Slayer of Daedra and all round badass.... stands there. Doing nothing.

no to mention that first adam jensen mistake is totaly justified, while he was trained swat he was just and ordinary human while guy who attacked him not only had training but also powerfull augmentations and even if jensen would react in time he would loose in unavoidable melee fight because burst from rifle would be not enought and ordinary human hands would not stand a chance and whole panic room thing? well, i would actualy get fooled in that scene even if i had option not to, also shoving your augmentic feet under that door would probably be awfull idea, if not completly destroying it you would be stuck there, its panic room its supossed to be that tought that it would take payday gang skills to break inside

@@arekkrol9758 I'm with you on Jensen getting tossed at the start. That's out of his hands because he was not physically capable to handle that situation at the time. The panic room incident is very out of character, especially with the Jensen that I role played. The Adam that I played would not have fallen for that bullshit and would have demanded information from her, taking her into custody. I feel like they could've done a better job of implementing her into the end game.

Of all of these, the Twilight Princess one was the most annoying to me (mostly because it's the only one that I played through). I was EXCITED to fight those guys on the bridge. There wasn't enough straight up fights in Twilight Princess, which was a very puzzle-oriented game. I was looking forward to fighting all of those enemies like a badass. Then the bar-ber shop quartet shows up after being completely useless for most of the game and totally steal all of your kills. Then the game expects you to think "Oh, cool, I have backup!" but no. They don't show up again after that as far as I remember. They started as being useless, were only useful when you didn't want them, then returned to being useless right after. Thanks a lot, guys.

I'd add that one moment where Shepard forgets how to badass. In ME3, when you get to Thessia, you can beat Kai Leng's cybernetic ass right until the cutscene, where he beats you easily.

Sig Mar I'll also add the one where you have Shepard and three squad members versus Kai Leng on the Citadel and yet because Thane has to die for some reason, it can only be ninja vs ninja instead of ninja vs ninja and SPECTRE and two others

Or, later, when Leng jumps on top of the police cruiser you're given. Instead of, say, flying close to one of the overpasses and scraping the bastard off, Shepard leans out of the car to shoot him with the starter pistol (presumably taken from under the car's dashboard), allowing Leng to stab the car's engine and knock you out of the air. ...In fact, I think we can summarize this as "Whenever Kai Leng shows up before the final battle in Mass Effect 3."

I would possibly put Sora from Kingdom Hearts II on the list. In most situations you can mop up Shadow Heartless without trying. Yet all of the sudden in a cutscene Sora, Donald and Goofy are surrounding by like 8 of them and now "There's too many of them!"

Not fully relevant, but that is also a great idea for a video - when a game character does something you wouldn't do if you had controls. Not like here, where he fogets how to hero, but where he makes a choice you wouldn't like in your example or in case of whatever Dante's brother does in his own DLC from Devil May Cry.

I may be late to the game, but here goes: I think it was in Final Fantasy VII, where you just finish a boss fight, and the "Bad Guy" shows up with 2 goons and arrests you. In essence, we just got done destroying their army, but you surrender to the "baddy" and 2 guys you just wiped the floor with! I'm still passed about that!

Batman Arkham City: Batman can almost effortlessly pull off all these fancy flips and counter moves in gameplay. But when you go to see Joker in the steel mill, the cutscene has Joker get the drop on Batman! And then he gets hit by Harley Quinn too! Embarrassing effort there Bruce

Star Wars KOTOR - during the first fight with Malak, in which, depending on your build, you're either effortlessly kicking his ass or just putting up a good fight, so, after finally dropping the main baddie's health low and almost finishing him off, your hero is tornado'ed in the air where he's helplessly swirling as one of your companions has to sacrifice themselves to save the useless cutscene-you.

I feel the problem with Luke's resume is that it is not eye-catching enough. Chuck the felt-tip marker and get some colourful gel pens and glitter to stand out amongst the rest.

I have to say this is like the only lists type channel I genuinely like (yes, I know they have other content as well). It has actual personality, does some research, includes proper warnings for spoilers and occasionally expands their lists by making Commenter Editions.

Witcher 3, during the final battles in "On Thin Ice", Geralt gets frozen by the white frost Caranthir is wielding. Ciri destroys his staff and ends the local frost, although she then has to teleport away. At that point, a cutscene reveals that Geralt is thawing , and he then proceeds to enter the arena to make mincemeat of Caranthir. So... he let himself get frozen off screen, then? Forgotten all about that Quen spell?

Our most beloved dragonborn from skyrim, who mastered archery and could snipe a cherry from between your lips from 100000 ft away, who misses the target the he actually should hit as soon as the slowmotion finishing scene starts... That's not even a real cutscene, yet it's enough to make hero.exe stop working

Argh. I really wish they had the option to turn those off. The arrow/projectile moves way too slowly and sometimes it'll clip the most annoying hitbox so that no matter how many times you tried you couldn't even hit them.

Absolutely agree. It makes absolutely no sense for the player character to not attack Jack. Though it could be forgivable with someone like Maya or Zero, it's full on WTF territory for someone like Krieg

I play as Axton. My turret had a bubble shield. Just before the cutscene i threw down the turret. In the cutscene, you can see the bubble shield, just behind Roland. Then jack shows up and shoots right through the shield without damaging it. Even if the character is immobilised or something, that turret is automated, rocket Barrage right in Jack's face the second he showed up.

Mass effect 3 cutscenes? In literally every cutscene Shepard uses the predator pistol, which is literally the worst gun in the game, and because of that Thane dies and Kai Leng escapes multiple times

Kai Leng's power is saturating the heroes with idiot balls. Thane has a clean headshot on him but doesn't fire. Instead of swerving crazily and throwing Leng off into a wall or a pylon, Shepard tries to shoot through a barrier...which didn't work when he tried to shoot Saren on Virmire.

I think the reason was more that his family would remain hunted as long as he lived so he had to die to keep them safe. It was more a loving suicide than a tactical error.

It actually makes a lot more sense if you understand the backstory... Samus has PTSD from Ridley wiping out her space colony right in front of her... She thought she was done with him after killing him for the third time (like you said) and blowing up the planet his body was on for good measure. Imagine how you would feel if the enemy that had haunted your nightmares for years, who you thought you had finally fully disposed of, suddenly reappears right in front of you... That's what happened in that game... which I think would have been a lot better if Nintendo had let Team Ninja do the "story" as well as the gameplay. Also, in terms of panic attack, she actually recovered fairly quickly considering how those things usually go.

Evie Frye VS Lucy Thorne in the mission "A Room With A View" in sequence 5. You completely beat Lucy in the fight and then for whatever reason besides drama, Evie somehow loses the fight???? I got through that fight without getting hit ONCE and then what? Losing? Come on Evie, that's a Jacob-level mistake!

You know, in the new Tomb Raider games, Lara would have survived being thrown into a wall by a T-Rex with maybe a sore leg. Seriously, the amount of stuff Lara has survived. In the prologue to Rise of the Tomb Raider, she uses her pick ax to save herself from falling to her death 3 times. A move, each time, that would at least dislocate the shoulder of a normal person. Then there's the fall through the trees in both games which would result in many a broken rib. She somehow survived the rolling of a jeep with just a concussion that goes away as soon as you start to parkour around...can we just do a "The times that prove Lara Croft is immortal"?

Idk if it counts but in the Dragonball Z Budokai games during the story mode no matter how badly you seem to defeat your enemy once a cut scene starts if the story says you didnt really win then too bad, time to wait for Goku. Like if you play as Krillin and and manage to defeat nappa without taking a single punch once the cut scene starts he's all like "Oh no this guys too strong. HELP ME GOKU SENPAI!"

Saint Seiya fighting games have those too. For some reason, you're required to beat two rounds against your opponent, even though "facing someone above your level and getting your ass kicked until the power of determination/friendship/loyalty/etc gives you a boost to surpass them" is kind of the story's whole shtick.

i feel like ubi missed a great opportunity for gameplay with that. I got excited thinking i could just avoid the hunters having fun in the process. But no, you end up just getting nicked and passing out or running out some timer and doing it anyways, it just got boring and every time they let me know the hunters were coming i would just get up and get a drink or snack or something.

I have an extra one. On the second to last mission in Halo Reach when 6 is watching all those zealots climb on the gun to attack Emile he totally gets distracted by just a little bit of gunfire from the Phantoms turret. I would have kept shooting the zealots. A few lasers coming at me hardly damaging my Shields wouldn't make me have to put my arm in front of my face preventing me to shoot!
