I am sad/discontented because I am a working wife. I have always wanted to be at home and a full time homemaker. I fully support homemakers.

I am a single mother who wanders between working 20 and 48 hours per week. I can tell you that working more, doesn't result in much more money at all! Paying for tutoring, or art classes, take-out-food, or pick-me-up $5 coffee on the go is what busy working women blow their whole paycheck on. Staying at home allows you to cook at home, plan carefully, and take full advantage of free activities (that cost time instead).

It's not social media that caused rushing seasons-stores have been dragging out winter clothes in July and summer stuff in Feb. for eons. Even when I worked in retail back in 1980.

1. Get dressed 2. Make your bed 3. Develop a discipline 4. Focus on what you value 5. Embrace your weirdness (opinions are like bu**holes, everybody has one and they all stink 🤣) 6. Budgeting and Frugality 7. Find your niche in housekeeping (thank you for this, reminding me that I do not need to master someone else's area of expertise. My niche is organizing and tidying. I am not a master of sewing and mending or cooking and baking.) -1. Stop rushing into the next season -2. Stop being so busy (learn to know when to stop)

I totally agree with making the bed, but make sure YOU AIR IT FIRST. Pull the covers back, go do your bathroom stuff, then come back and make the bed. You lose a lot of sweat during the night, and it creates a perfect environment for bedbugs and other bacteria. Air your bed.
@wangarikamau1118
@wangarikamau1118 11 месяцев назад
Fully agree. I do the same. I wake up, pull my covers down to the foot of the bed, letting it air out while I get ready for the day- shower, dress, breakfast, makeup, pack my work and lunch bags- then make my bed as the last task before I leave the house. Game changer😇
@goddessmel8518
@goddessmel8518 Месяц назад
My nan taught me to do this and I still do it now. I throw the covers back, do my morning 'ablutions', get my coffee brewing, get dressed, THEN make the bed. Doing this before I eat breakfast and drink my coffee means I don't forget to go back and do it but it also gives time to air while I do the prep.

I was applauded by my kiddo's allergist for not making their beds (or encouraging them to make their beds, since they were quite young), so I can't agree with you on that one 😂 I make my bed later in the day, and according to the allergist, it's best to throw back the covers and allow the sheets to air out a bit (a term my grandmother used quite often) before making the bed. I could go into his detailed description of dust and mites, but let's just leave it here...

I still “make my bed”, but sometimes my made bed has the covers folded back at the foot of the bed, letting the sheets air out. I can’t stand walking into my bedroom to a bed that is crumpled and in disarray. 😂

It’s better to wash your covers often and make your bed first thing in the morning! Natural materials do not provide a place for dust mites to live. Wool, Cotton, Latex are naturally anti-microbial.

Rushing the seasons is one of my pet peeves. I want to enjoy each one to the fullest, whether that is a season of the year or a season of my life! Fall is my favorite time of year, and Thanksgiving my favorite holiday. As I am now in the Autumn of my life , I intend to enjoy both to the fullest! May God bless you and your family ♥️🙏

The "getting dressed in the morning" point is important, and I would just add that wearing something you feel "put together" in is key too. Wearing something that makes me feel classy and beautiful definitely helps put a spring in my step. I wear lots of flowy, comfy, midi dresses because I feel comfortable in those, but it could look differently depending your tastes. If I went into an office everyday I would try to look nice so I want to do so for my family.

I guarantee that part of the reason “fall decor” comes sooner is because in our minds, fall and school starting go hand in hand. They keep starting school earlier and earlier. I started after Labor Day. My oldest kids start at the end of August. My youngest just started in mid August and a school district near us started a week before she did. It’s ridiculous.

So many videos out there are pulling us in different directions. It feel alike a pendulum being pulled from one extreme to the other with all the videos out there. This video was a good be centered reminder. Embracing weirdness I love! I am not a minimalist because I like to be prepared for harder times. I am a stay at home mother of seven but I can’t or won’t wear a dress every day because it isn’t practical and life is busy and hard work… I can’t make every single thing from scratch… because i just don’t have that time. I can’t keep a sourdough starter alive to save my life…. But I can make a mean yeast bread! and as much as I want to I can’t homeschool. So I send mine to school and then go over everything they learn at school and then supplement at home. So thank you. A good reminder to be the best mother and wife I can be with my own situation! We spend so much time watching people live their own dreams on RU-vid that we forget to live our own dreams sometimes! Life was so much more simpler without RU-vid wasn’t it? We weren’t comparing as much and we were living and enjoying our lives to the fullest. Let’s get back to that!

One good practice to learn and teach our kids. We should all learn to pick up after ourselves. Homemaking is not a joy ride so all members of our families should pick up after themselves no matter if You're a man or a woman. Certainly a small child can do less than someone older but homemakers are not maids and should be respected. 😊

I agree on "rushing seasons", specifically for life. What happened when people expected less from you simply because you have a young family? Oh you're hosting people for dinner, but not enough cups? That's okay, some of us will use a jar! Instead so many young families are told, "You don't own ___?! Gasp! You should go buy it!" There's so much pressure to have all the things RIGHT NOW, no matter your season of life. It's killing people's finances and peace.

@@beckywilliams4773 We don't celebrate Halloween, and to be blunt, I hate it 😂 I won't even watch previews to horror movies. At worst, this culture of death is satanic. At best it's just gross 🤷🏼‍♀️ But as to why do so many celebrate it, even Christians, I think there are a few reasons. 1. Despite the fact that we have called ourselves Christian nations, the fact is that there are not many people who are born again. Out of all those who call themselves Christians, I would venture to say that the vast majority of them are cultural Christians... Meaning they grew up going to church, therefore they might go to church and they try to be relatively "good" people, but with little to no understanding of the real gospel. People who actually are born again is a very small minority of people. 2. Even out of those who have been born again, many people don't bother examining the things they do that have been a part of life for as long as they can remember. It doesn't even occur to them that something could be wrong with it or that it may not be pleasing to God. They think it is just the "normal" thing to do, so they just continue to participate in whatever they grew up with as it brings a sense of nostalgia. Or, they feel guilty to leave their child out of whatever the other kids are doing. They think, "what is the big deal if my daughter wants to dress as a princess and get some free candy?" 3. Sometimes churches will have events to allow children to dress up and get candy. I can understand that this may be a safer environment, no scary costumes allowed, and allow children to feel that they get to do what their friends at school will be talking about the next day. Personally, I don't like it as it seems like a cop out to still participate in the thing that we all know is bad. But I do understand it. As for my own family, we go all out for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. No Halloween for us. Kids can play dress up any other day of the year, and I am happy to buy my child candy every now and then throughout the year. No need for it on that particular night.
@lifemyway200
@lifemyway200 Год назад
@beckywilliams4773 its not a "holiday"...you dont get time off. It's literally just a fun time for kids to get dressed up and get candy; being Christian or not is irrelevant. You are reading too much into it:)

I really enjoyed this--especially number 4. We hear and see so much from outside our own home, and that can make us feel like we SHOULD be doing things that aren't for us. I struggle with this, because my life isn't a cookie cutter anything. I work in healthcare PRN but I am 80% homemaker, I don't homeschool but we are strong Christians, I love to be in the garden and tend to the animals but I don't always cook from scratch...so on and so on. It's hard when you think you should do "better" or more of something you already do at a level you feel good about.

I have so much I want to share about this. This video was very relatable for me. Before I was married and had kids, before you tube was a big thing and before instagram and influencers, I always had company. Dinner parties, themed events, so much fun. My space was small. But now, 12-15 years later and we have a house and kids and all the things I was waiting for, I don’t entertain as much. Having young kids has a little to do with it but also the pressure of, does my house look right? Will I be judged bc I don’t have a white and bright kitchen? My kitchen is beautiful but it isn’t the current trend. And I just have this in the back of my mind I guess. Oh, I don’t know how to properly style my mantle and feel like it should look a certain way. I have come to realize these things are in my subconscious. You talked about having the new trends and for example we bought fabric couches but really we love leather. We regret it so much bc we are never comfortable and it will be a long time before we can get new ones. We felt like no one has leather anymore so it would be a mistake to buy it. We were wrong. I love you tube. It’s my “tv” and replaced food network for me since having kids and I have learned a lot of things but I do have to work on letting the perfection go. Thanks for this video, it hit home!

Thank you Angela for being the first person on RU-vid saying how problematic it is that seasonal content/tips/inspiration is coming earlier and earlier each year. I have actually never before really stressed about Christmas. Of course it is very special time of the year and can get busy. But we have always kept it very simple and enjouyed the few simple things we love to do: baking gingerbread, putting up the christmas lights, preparing presents, building snowmen outside... I have really enjoyed all of that even though there has sometimes been a bit last minute rush to get kids teachers presents ready in time etc. But actually first when I started to follow some mom-youtubers, I heard that Christmas anxiety was a thing. How they talked about planning everything two months ahead already in October made me feel very stressed. I seriously have been thinking if I want to watch their content at all during the autumn season (even though I like them very much), because it feels that all this talk about Christmas-stress is been put on me and making me anxious too, if I hear it too much. That the beauty and enjoyment of the autumn is almost stolen away from me. So thank you for bringing this up, I really appreciate it. Lots of blessings from Sweden, I just found your channel today and it has been a joy😊❤ The last tip was right on point!

She tried to entice me into buying one, but I told her I wasn't ready to move on from summer yet.

On the subject of making the bed - there are many who believe that your bed should be aired out. The way I get around this is to make up the bed nicely, then pull back the bedding so that it gets well aired. Then the next time you get by the bedroom, just pull up the covers. And don't forget to open the window.

Today is Sunday. I’m in my pyjamas. Day of rest. Thinking back, my grandparents didn’t listen to the radio during the day, only the news at night. My father always washed his face, combed his hair & was dressed before breakfast - he had been in the army. Mum always made the bed. Today being Sunday I’m going in the sun, reading, playing records or music & going through photos like my grandparents did. This morning I heard the birds singing because there was no radio on. I don’t watch TV unless there’s something really special streamed. White cotton or linen or hemp sheets last longer if washed separately, spot remove any marks. You getting motivated by just starting to do something. Mornings are the best time to get things done. Making an inventory of what is in each room keeps things organised so there are not too many things to list so each item is used. Ignore the trends unless you love them. Just looked at the latest paint colours - many are too dark so settled on white to open up & lighten smaller rooms & lift the flooring colour.

I have been telling people for years about the bed making situation, and I have told my children forever to get dressed to start up their day, since I remember loving enjoying the day more if I would get dressed and ready rather than loafing about in my PJs. You go through any Life Coaching training? Some of what you have been saying are things that Life Coaches (such as myself) say a lot. It's great. Yeah! Be weird, friends! I don't know of this TradWife thing. . .but I laugh because I've been a somewhat "traditional wife" for almost twenty years and was mocked for it and now it's a trend? I am intrigued! I love "just being" . . Yesterday I had to put on a sweatshirt here in New Jersey because it got cold in the morning. I resisted because it is still summer for a few more days, but the weather was like, "Get cozy." Then it got hot out and I was happy that it was still summer. I am just being in whatever is coming my way.

Focusing on what you actually care about is so important, and I feel like that connects very closely to knowing when you’ve done “enough”. I *wish* I was one of those people who had a spotless house that was impeccably decorated for every holiday, but I don’t care enough about that to actually *be* that person. I had to learn that it’s okay to just have a house that’s regularly cleaned but might not look it (children live here 😆), and it’s okay to put up one wreath to cover the entire fall season and call it good. That’s enough to satisfy me, and then I might still have time to, I dunno, sleep or something. Maybe even talk to the other people who live here instead of cleaning. 😂

I had to stop the video and comment… years years ago(~12), I was gifted money to buy a new couch! We went to the furniture store and I saw this beautiful red couch 😍. It CALLED to me. I wanted it so bad, but alls I kept thinking about was “how weird” it was to have a red couch and “who in the world has a red couch” and “I don’t know anyone with a red couch” anyways.. I got it! Do you know I got so many compliments on it. We had so many friends at that time. We ended moving and I lost that couch. Years down the road people still talk about my red couch and how comfortable it was, haha. It such a memory for me and sentimental. I’ve since then been trying to find that same red couch. I will be moving soon and I plan to get another one just like it…. But I’ve also been loving orange and yellow, lol. But anyways, I said a lot. But I too have always been like who the heck cares what other people think. Why am I letting them control what *I* LIKE? 😊

I will say the seasons being celebrated earlier is kind of subjective... I do think that things seem like they're getting pushed earlier. But I live in a colder place and we're already moving towards fall weather... so it feels appropriate to me to have fall items out 🤔

I am not a homemaker, but many (if not all) of these things are principles I live by as a mom employed full time outside of my home. It’s also how I got through graduate school while working full time. As long as you are choosing your vocation in alignment with your values and priorities (and not being forced into a life you don’t have a say in), there is abundant value in what you do, whether or not your labor is financially compensated. ❤

Try to remember that it's important to focus on the moment too. So even if I have something I need to accomplish for later me I need to realize the chores will always be there but my kids won't and they are my focus too.

social media isn't the only place they're jumping ahead to the next seasons. I went into Walmart just a few days ago (2nd week of January) and they already have their Valentine's Day stuff up. What makes me upset the most is that in Canada our school year ends at the end of June and begins in September, but go to Walmart and it's the last week of July they have back-to-school stuff up. It's hard because I don't want to go there and buy the stuff, but if I don't, by the end of August everything is almost gone and it's slim pickings.

Moms are superheros, stay-at-home moms and working moms... I don't know how you do it. The way I have made my bed has changed. I used to bring all bedding up, but now I fold it halfway down my bed. After reading/watching articles and videos about how dust mites enjoy being under bedding. Folding the bedding down at least half of the bed is airing out.

Thank you for this video, it confirms what I've found works for me. I heard the comment you said "evening (name) doing something for next day (name)" I heard this for the first time by Kallie on But first, coffee - it finally after so many years (60) clicked in my brain. I started with dishes every pm for tomorrow me! Not only did it work, but my hubby so greatly appreciated it! Then it continued so that now I have an am & pm routines that help us out. Even my hubby now has taken to making the pot of coffee ready every pm before he comes to bed to turn in the next am. (He'll even bring me a cup in the am before I get up!❤) I'm glad that I can embrace my weirdness! I've always been more eclectic taste & who cares what others have.❤

Why is it that the stores are starting to sell things & decorate way earlier than they used to??? And why is people buying stuff so early?? And why can’t people dress and behave according to the weather?? Here in Sweden I have seen people in thick sweaters and boots 😳 BUT it is still summer weather! Welll at least here in the south! Look at the weather outside and decorate, dress and behave acordingly! If it is cold and icy you perhaps shouldn’t bike, like my doktor did. Well he become a patient at the hospital like many others that day! It feels like the world is a bit 🙃

Thank you so much for this video. It has helped me a-lot to hear your take on things. I am disabled and living alone now since my son moved out and will be getting married. I had an operation Thursday and I’m still recovering. But, I started stressing over getting out and going to church and making sure my home is clean and tidy when all I feel like doing is laying around and recuperating. Your video made me feel better about things. God bless you. ❤️🙏🏻✝️

PLEASE take the time you need to rest & recooperate. If you need to skip church, skip church. You can watch online, read your Bible, pray, listen to music, etc. Or you can rest some more. I believe that healing and taking care of our bodies is being a good steward of the body God gave us, and there are times when that needs to be priority number one. I’m not saying this to “preach” at you, but to encourage you to do what is best for you, and know that it’s okay to rest and heal. I hope your recovery goes well, and that you are back to doing the things you love soon! 🙏☺️

This was a really helpful video. How would you suggest discovering what you are good at or what your niche is? Also if you do find it, I'm always interested in hearing how and when one should develop that. I'm a young mom of 6 under 7 years old and I feel like I'm just learning all the basics, but I feel that it's important to pursue something I enjoy for my own mental health but i don't really know where to start. I want it to be something feasible that wouldn't have a lot of set up or materials ha ha

What are you interested in? What gets you excited to try? Try/learn one at a time, don't need to buy 'all the things', just give it a go. You also don't need to do it forever - my interests have shifted over time. When I had baby #2 I realised the work would never be done, so do what you can for the day then do something fun for you, even for 15min. It's a gift to your family to see it and to have a happy mum, if you're feeling guilty about that.

I love how you pointed out that being a homemaker doesn’t mean you have to fit into a box. We all would be different because our families needs are different. And isn’t that the whole point of being a homemaker, to be that what your family needs,we’re not trying to portray an image to suit the rest of society. Love this video!
