From a Florida pier fisherman for 50+ years I really enjoyed your video. I'm in the northwest part of Florida on the Gulf and boy it gets rough in the Atlantic. Cobia are probably the hardest fish to gaff from a pier, they don't run hard and burn off energy like kings and jacks do and they're not afraid to swim around a piling. It's usually better to wait until a cobia is laying on it's side and not moving if possible before taking a gaff shot, the gaff shot in your video was okay but if the fish runs a little he'll get tangled in other gaff ropes so I think just one gaff is better I've seen fish lost due to several gaffs in the water.
Awesome, I am up in Jax and don’t own a boat. But out of all the land based fishing I do from inshore, jetty, beach and pier. Pier fishing is my favorite. Watching all your videos has given me some great insight. Thanks
As a texas pier fishermen seeing some of the fish that you guys get make me envy yall. A cobia here is a once a year thing for just one to be landed, kings are a rare occurrence maybe every few years they come by. but man I can relate with the schools of jacks, it's super fun. Our bullreds do the same thing in the fall and man it's chaotic
Northeast Florida pier fisherman here, We use 2 rod trolley rigs for the big boys here in Jacksonville. Love the chaos when those yellow submarines showed up!
The pier should have pilchard schools now but the okochobee water dumping messed everything up. Haven’t seen consistent kings or Bonita at all when they should be here
Also what you call a hornbelly we call butterfish over here (although we know they aren't really butterfish) and we actually catch a lot of fish on them, the tarpon especially seem to love them.
I am so jealous of this. I hate our limited selection of fish we have here in Virginia. The fish we have to bring home for dinner would be used for bait in Florida and Alaska 😢
I was watching this I saw the sigh Juno Beach and I was like wait ik that place I realized I fish there all the time and I recognize half the people that Fisch there
Fantastic video, what lb test are you using I have have seen many guys use white braid but not sure why. For surf fishing I use 15 lb mono with 30lb leader.
Hey Ryan on your 9 ft rod do u prefer a vsx 150 or 200 and a vsx 1 or 2 for pier/ surf fishing, I am trying to decide for myself and am asking other peoples opinions
You should have had a crab out every day soaking on bottom just waiting. You know better Ryan. Cobia and permit were going to be the toughest to check off.
@@walledrodeo8126 Thank you! I'm going to go there in a week or so because school will be out for summer on friday. I'm also going to Tropic Star Lounge this summer too.
