One thing I'll never understand is why other Android phone makers don't have an alert slider. I didn't know it would be a big deal till I got my OnePlus and now I'm not sure I'd want a phone without it
@@SilvioBritto Yes! I've never owned a Sony phone but that does sound like it'd be very useful. Could absolutely see myself getting used to having that button
Just ain't worth it anymore. Time as passed up so quickly. I was iphone user for over 10 years and released myself about 2 year's ago and I'm not getting back baby.
I actually just switch to this phone after being team iPhone for over a decade...I don't know what I was thinking but I'm so happy I finally made the switch
I've been an iPhone user for ten years now and have converted many Android users to use Apple but this year, I switched and to a very low budget Android Xiaomi Redmin Note 8 and I am way more than happy with my choice. The thing that apple users don't realize is that they praise how good the "echo system" is which is iOS but they are not aware that Android has improved so much in the past few years and improved a lot faster than iOS so it's not to the point where it's much better than iOS because they addressed most of not all the things they had issues with like lack of apps in the store, security and virus issues, hardware software compatibility and the list goes on. But just like I switched to Apple over a decade ago and was extremely happy with my choice, I've now switched back to android and feel just the same.
Been using my OnePlus 5 since 2017 and this is a very tempting upgrade. I don't think I'll stray away from OnePlus anytime soon, most sturdy phone I've ever had for sure
I have pre-ordered this phone yesterday and I can’t wait for it to arrive. First time changing from iOS and Apple to Android. I have had Iphones since the iPhone 3g and now I own an iPhone 8 plus. Oneplus impressed me with their phones, I hope I won’t be disappointed.
It'll take a couple of weeks to get used to the way android works, or it did me. Muscle memory using iOS. Anyway, now on android and love the freedom to customise look of phone etc...oh, and game pass
@@craggyrock70 damn, I hope I won’t be tempted to switch back to iOS in the first week lol. I think the software updates on Apple are top notch, i hope they’ll be the same on OnePlus
@@danielkhhh I switched from apple to oneplus. I'll never go back. Apple id so behind on tech it's crazy. They're just now coming out with things I've had on my oneplus 7pro for a year. And calling it new. It did take me a little while to get used to android but now that I am it's the better of the two in my opinion. I ordered my 8t yesterday so I don't have it yet but I expect it to be just as good as my 7 pro. Only reason I upgraded was the 7 pro is just a little too big, especially for one handed use.
One Plus for me was mostly about getting as close to stock android as possible. In a world where so many devices failed to deliver a clean OS experience One Plus was a breath of fresh air and so i became a huge fan. To hear they are moving away from that is sad. To hear a few people say its starting to feel more like Samsung OS is very concerning. Its an odd year - because the Pixel 5 is still not worth an upgrade from my 7pro and as of yet One Plus haven't offered anything that seems worth moving from either.
Haha that's a "universal dads' trait"! And guess what's better than a mediaeval phone to them?? A mediaeval phone with a broken display and dying battery... 😂
me with my oneplus 3t falling camera. its still a damn fine phone until it suddenly crashed :((((( and died i now use note 10 plus. i miss oneplus clean software so much, its definitely better than samsung shat os
Yeaah, for me I love the idea of OnePlus kinda moving away from stock android... just for me, so that OnePlus could show what design could they give toward their personalized apps such for future messaging, browsers, etc
You all are probably familiar with setting yourself up for buyer's remorse by aquiring a device, using it for a bit then watching reviews for it along with its competition. I did exactly this and after using it for a few months can honestly say I have zero regrets.
So, I was awaiting this release but I bought a oneplus 8 a few weeks back at a discounted cost from Amazon. I was using the 7T which I really loved. Went for the 8 as it offered double the storage and more ram. Plus there's the 5G. Not disappointed, as it is also lighter than the 7T. Really fluid to use.
Brilliant review. Loved the way your presented. Just upgraded from OP5 and must say it is a welcome change. The OP5 still had good chops on it but figured it is likely to become a pain soon enough. 3 days with the handset with some intense gaming and office activity on this. So far the phone has performed well and expected battery drain. Still left with a healthy 20% at the end of the day. I do like the bells and whistles they have added to the stock android. I suppose they will have to tread a fine line here to not overdo this since oxygenOS is what the OP community loves most about this phone. Some decent camera action here. Need a day out to test it thoroughly though, but it promises to be competitive enough. Mind this is just out of the gate so I expect some further tweaks to the camera software in the coming months as they look into the feedback from the community. Overall, if you want it cheap Nord, middling 8T, got some more money on you I guess 8 Pro still remains a good contender for premium. Like how OnePlus is placing itself.
Love my OnePlus 7 pro! Still really fast great screen handles everything I need just perfectly!! And I love the pop-up camera.. lol..I know most don't..I never use it.. and when I do.. I think it's cool.. your review is the one that pushed me over the edge to get it. Thanks for everything you do.. keep the great content coming!! Maybe on the next round you can persuade me to upgrade! If it ain't broke don't fix it.. keep it simple OnePlus that's why we love you.. you're exactly right 😂✌🏻🤟🏻👊🏻
yeah, in QLD life more or less as it was before covid-19. people wash hands and sort of keep distances, but it's pretty much back to normal. i enjoyed lockdown though. i did feel for small businesses though. shops, restaurants etc.
@@mharro88 Haha yeah I realise I'm in the minority but I loved it. Didn't have to be around people at work, didn't have to engage in small talk. No one asked me how my weekend was. Not many people at the shops. People keeping distance. Did I mention I didn't have to be around people at work? Like I didn't have to hear the stupid loud woman who distracts everyone in the office. I still had to see her and hear on online office meetings, but I could mute her. Loved it. But like I said, I did feel for people with small businesses. I didn't like seeing them suffer.
The reason I bought the 8T is the Dual Sim feature. I have a work phone and a personal phone and I didn't like having two phones with me all the time. So far I'm happy with it, I have an ATT sim and a T-mobile sim card, no issues. Coming from a Note 9 and S9+
I've had the 8t for a month or so now. Came from the OnePlus 6. The software is better. Looks and functionality of the OS has been improved. I miss the shelf on swipe right, but you can still get this as a swipw down option. One thing that I miss on the hardware is the notification light. Wish they would add this as a ring around the camera hole punch. Hopefully will be added in a future update.
Sir I think you just convinced me to upgrade to the OP8T from 2 years of using my 6T. Though I was contemplating to do so because it doesn't pack the IMX689 sensor from the 8 Pro, but an upgrade is an upgrade nonetheless.
@@jamesheller6423 the only reason I don't like the 8 Pro is because of the massive 6.78 curved screen, but other than that it's a no-brainer upgrade of a phone 👍🏼

Seriously considering this as an upgrade to my trusty 2.5 year old OnePlus 6. If it had got a few more features from the 8 pro it would be an absolute no brainer!
It's the main reason i bought a OP device, the almost stock experience with a few tweaks. I'll definitely not update to Oxygen OS 11, it's a far cry from what OnePlus stood for in terms of quality and overall feel of their stock android, so it's a big NOPE. ( for me Oxygen OS 11 brings nothing intreresting nor useful, i don't mind a better experience instead of optimised one hand usage and AOD's... Overall android 11 is lackluster in terms of actual features so wtf Google... ) Since the 7T is scheduled to get Oxygen OS 12 in 2021/2022, i'd rather wait and watch what android 12 has to offer.
I have had the OP8t for a week now, upgraded from the OP6 which was a massive upgrade when you consider space, EVEN FASTER charging, and the 120hz display. Plus the camera is better, especially with the Gcam app installed.
Previously the Stock Android provided better UI and performance because there was no bloatware or added features and produces hanging. But now Oxygen OS is still fastest with added features so its a win win.
Disagree. I love the OnePlus 8, typing on it now. The 8T seems to improve on top of the 8. Mine is arriving in 3 days. Can't wait. I upgrade phones every 6 months.....
I guess. I've got a redmi y2 from almost 2.5 years and the only thing that I don't like anymore is the camera. It's deteriorated and sometimes really ruins the pictures. I was thinking of getting a pixel 4a but except camera NOTHING is really good about it. I'm so confused, I might just stick with my y2 till it gives up.
As someone running a 3T , is it worth forking out the 200 euro extra for the 8T or just go for the cheaper Nord , haven't seen many major differences between the two
@@jackbutler3133 loved Nord too, things i dont like about it is plastic frame and mono speaker, at my country 12gb nord priced at RM2399, While 8gb 8t at RM2699, I Guess ill go for 8t
I had the 7 pro with a smashed screen and I thought it was worth the upgrade. I was quoted $210 USD to repair the screen and I felt that it was more worth it to just get a new 8T and sell the parts on the 7 pro for $150.
You are also an MCOC-Gamer! 👍I have it on my phone as well and I love it. But to come back to the review , you did a great a job and it's a great phone indeed. I've always had Nexus/Pixel Phones and overall I was really satisfied with them, currently I have an Pixel 2XL for almost 2 years and except the battery life I had never problems with it. Even if I was never an owner of a 1+-Device, I was following them since Day 1 and they made a great job with their phones till today, great performance, fast charging, great design and a good battery life. But they are no longer a Flagship-Killer with a price for almost 1000€ here in Germany for the 8Pro. And I have no clue what to do. Stick with my Pixel 2XL and continue with it, even though it runs out with updates, took the older Pixel 4XL as a little Pixel-Fanboy or to give 1+ a try? I want a Premium phone with premium specs and not an midrange average one. I would appreciate any of your experiences you shared with Pixel/OnePlus(did they slow down in their perfomance after a couple of months/years) in the past to help me making a decision.
Not many people talking about the resolution downgrade and how much of a difference it makes compared to even the oneplus 7 pro QHD+ screen resolution. So we moved from a QHD+ screen to a FHD+ screen. I was looking forward to upgrading to this from my 7 pro, but it looks like the 8 pro is probably a better option, although I dislike the curved edges on my 7 pro.
Great review, thanks. Just picked up the silver for £449 on Amazon Black Friday. Coming from the 6T so you nailed my upgrade path exactly. Cheers. Also, nice cat.
So... I posted on the OnePlus 8T video that your video helped me with my decision.. But I just bought the S20FE, because I was disappointed by the camera of the OP 8T.. Overal it's an amazing phone, but the camera department was to important to overlook...
They just need the additions to be valuable to the user experience. The problem with oneUI is that the myriad features it has tend to be useless bloat.
Great review as always from ASBYT !! Wait, the million dollar (nope, million pound question)....what does ASBYT stand for 😝 Lastly, what a lovely Shirt 👌
Go with your comments about the soitware, but that said, One Plus make it very easy to unlock the bootloader & use a custom ROM. It might be a good idet to mention if this is still the case in passing.
@@hunter1850 A flat screen is always better than a curved and no im a android user. A curved screen cost more to make, is less useable, smaller screen area etc.

The power button on my 3T is slowly dying right now. Other than that it's still going strong. I wouldn't really have a reason to switch. But meh, I just did. Now I just hope that the 8T really delivers... It's so close to the Nord. Really a tough choice.
'Drop a like if you want 2020 to end, now...' 😂😂😂real clever.. i think 1+8T, and Samsung Fe are actually giving back more high end features for the price they r taking, while pixel is certainly not. iphone... bleh. they are whole different species themselves
I just got the 8T a few days ago. I ordered a UAG Plasma case for it because the phone is rather slippery. However, I'm liking the Aquamarine color so I'm hesitant to cover it up. At least the case has a clear back. It's a great phone so far.
You're Absolutely RIGHT. The only reason I stick to to OnePlus was Oxygen OS and I think Oxygen 10 was better than Oxygen OS 11. Good things in 11 - Weather app interface & Gallery. Bad things 11 - Google feed on the left side of the screen instead of OnePlus SHELF + notification UI +a bit lagging is there even at 120Hz + phone & messages needs some clean improvement + Oxygen 11 is DRAINING BATTERY . Note - it was much better earlier. And personally i feel the file folder blue "file manager" icon was better.
Great review and you are spot on but some things did change. In the US where I am, I have the T-Mobile ver or the 8T and it IS IP68 rated but ONLT the T-Mobile ver. Yet no Case I the box like the UK ver. The Slow Mo cam is FIRE

Coming from a triple phone user (OP7 pro / Pixel 4 XL / Note 10+), after 1 year or so, you'll start to feel the updates getting slower and slower. To the point where even Samsung catches up. You just can't help but to feel that user neglect as Oneplus starts to focus more on recent phones and neglect the older ones. Software support is also an inconvenience if you do run into problems.
I haven't seen any of your uploads in quite a while, and I'm impressed by the amount of new stuff you've bought/upgraded over the months or so. I also noticed that your voice is kind of different mate. I hope there's nothing to it.
I has two batteries that charge at 30w each. And it also has a charge mode to use that is called optimized charging. It charges to 80% and then stops. And finishes the charge to 100% not long before you wake up if you choose to charge it overnight. Also you could not charge it at all to 100% ever if you can do short charges thru the day. It goes from 0 to 60% in 15 minutes. And to 97% in 30 minutes.
@@RichiAtlanticWind I didn't mean OP 8T in particular but referring to to growing fast charging tech. But yeah, I have the 8T and the trickle charge towards the end helps I guess.
@@KarthikSankaran you do have a point. But as long as they keep improving technology to give us fast charging while taking better care of the batteries I think there is nothing wrong with it. Maybe if they gave an option to do a slow charge on the same charger that would be perfect.
Graphene battery's are going to help with heating issues. As said heat is what breaks down the health of the battery and not the speed it's charged at. For example Iphones charge at slower speeds and I often see their battery's need more replacing.
Which phone should i buy s20+ or one plus 8t?? Also telephoto camera a important piece in camera( is it noticeable) as OP 8t miss out on ip68 rating, telephoto camera( 3x optical zoom & 30x space zoom). Please let me know.

Hi Asbyt, nice review! I am tempted to dish oneplus for samsung, I am using the oneplus 7T pro for almost a year now. The major problem i have is the connectivity problem. I cant use the hotspot and my lycamobile sim or vodadafone sim cant connect to the network all the times. But the same sims into my old samsung galaxy S8+ works perfect. Do you have any suggestion for a quick fix?
Non-stock UI is totally fine, provided that it isn't more difficult to navigate or ugly. Biggest non-stock issues I tend to find are "features" that end up just being bloatware
I realy appreciate your trust review. My thought one plus is lost their goal. Flagship killer Smartshone must be 450 euro 256gb max. If they want to bumb up the selling of this phones. Price must be 400 to 450 euro for the flagship. One plus don’t be stupid or you will ending same as other companies like htc far against the competition
at first they started selling at prices like 450euro(low prpfit margin) to enter the competitive market when the company first started. It is not going to be sustainable if they continue selling phones at $400-$450. In tbe long run they need money for R&D and others. Also to sell at higher price makes conaumer feeps that they are buying a premium product. Unless Oneplus follows Xiaomi footsteps where profit is earn by selling other stuff like air purifier, scooter, etc.
