But you have to admit, FF14 had the most meta way of handling failure, by actually reconciling the failure of 1.0 into the actual story of the game (the fall of Dalamud). They even have little Easter eggs spread throughout A Realm Reborn like the Goobbue with mold and flowers growing over it as a throwback to all the players who formed a great Goobbue Wall before the server shutdown.

Can we make an honorable mention to the limited time festival events in Final Fantasy XV. I know they aren't actual games but I had so much fun doing each event

Them shutting down Möbius is something I forgot about yet still hold a lot of memories with. It really did have some enjoyable gameplay and a story that really would’ve been worth revisiting more. It’s games like that and Nintendo’s Dragalia Lost that makes me hate the idea of all these companies making so many mobile titles that have such high focus on story because all that would just be waste of everyone’s time from the players to the scenario writers as their work would all be delisted soon after.

The end of FF14 is still one of the most badass ways to end a video game ever. "Answers" alone gives me chills every time I hear it.

God I miss Mobius. By far one of my favorite FF mobile games I’ve played. I still have the app on my phone and will continue to carry along with me for as long as possible. Never forget!

Record keeper so damn good! It needs a come back, it served the entire franchise and all fans

The ending showing the trailer for First Soldier and never actually mentioning First Soldier feels like such a power move, lmao. There are a lot of mobile games that are lost media now, but I miss them all the same. The one I miss the most is probably Idle Poring, which was my favorite idle game, and Ragnarok themed. There's also some old games I forgot the name of and can't find any footage of, one being a side-scrolling beat-em-up where you play as a magical swordsman. The corners of the screen correspond to elements, and by dragging your finger from corner to corner, you combine elements to do super moves. It was challenging to perform those motions mid-combo but very satisfying. Maybe one day I'll find it again, or at least a screenshot of it.

A game I would like to see come back, and perhaps expanded upon: Crystal Defenders. The tower defense style was fantastic!

I really miss Mobius. I only got to play a little bit of it but it was so much fun with what I did get to play of it. Also that prelude track is easily the best rendition in the whole franchise (In my opinion)

Seeing Momodi move like Superman really made my day.

Record Keeper is the biggest middle finger to me, it was a great game and even if it wasnt making them money any more, they could have made it offline with an update. and yes i know, its still playable in some regions but most of us simply can not read other languages.

Ff Mobius ending still pains me to this day. The story and music where really top tier for a mobile game. Best I have seen to this day.😢❤❤

I still believe that FFVII: The First Solder would have done very well IF it was brought to consoles and PC. I enjoyed the few matches I played over its lifespan, but I've never been a fan of mobile controls so I didn't wanna invest heavily into it.

I really wanted to play Mobius more. I started, but with real life work, I had to take a long break. When I came back, it was no longer available. A shame. Its always a treat to play as a Warrior of Light.

Watching this video made me sad and angry. Sad because I absolutely loved FF Record Keeper and Mobius(especially with that FF10 storyline which was one of the most exciting times for me when it came to mobile) and both games were such massive memories of my teenage years. The anger part is that I have no idea that there was one version of FF Agito/Type 0 that was meant for the PS Vita which is my favorite handheld and I would have instantly bought it and now I’m upset that it was cancelled

My Steam profile says I played Mobius for over 200 hours but looking at footage now I honestly couldn't tell you what's going on

FFRK was so fun and after a while it did get repetitive so I took a break but when I came back I was sad to see they shut it all down. Rip

Mobius is my very first final fantasy title & I am loving it ... Still remember I played the collab with ff7, ff10 & ff13, Love the interaction between wol & lightning, I wish they comeback as an offline game with grindable cards / in game purchase ...

Möbius was a really good mobile game. Sadly, to me, the second part got kinda lackluster with the story and they also changed the playstile just a little, but kept the playstile of first part as it was, which made me fall of. When Square Enix announced its cancellation, i went back in and recorded a lot of footage, because as a f2p player i got so lucky with character pulls that i had a lot of the Ultimate-Hero cards and they re-ran all the events. A little bit of that footage is on my YT-page (more a video-archive for me, than a channel), in a Playlist and more than 60GB on a harddrive, i still want to edit. I had to record the sound and video separately, so a lot to do and i just dont find the time to do so. Its all in german with English voice over, or bad, or no sound. But, a lot of people did this, its all on RU-vid, so no big loss to me over all.

I don't want to "play" FFXIV 1.0 per se... but I'd love to be able to experience Eorzea pre-calamity and the story it told. I know there wasn't much story, but knowing there's a part of my favorite game lost to time, I can't help but wish I could see it for myself.

Being a big Final Fantasy 7 fan myself, I grew up with all of it and watching all of it emerge: you had Final Fantasy 7 on PlayStation one, you had Final Fantasy Crisis Core oh, you had Final Fantasy before crisis, Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus on PlayStation 2. Now I know Dirge of Cerberus has received a lot of mixed reviews and most of the reviews being negative due to the gameplay and whatnot, but I must say it was an amazing game as a sequel to the story seeing the conclusion with Vincent Valentine and also having a tie in with some of the characters of Crisis Core and the villains from Mako reactor zero. When you complete that game and you see the true ending to the game, they can't leave you hanging like that because it shows that the Saga can still continue. But now with the remake out and the sequels to that and the slight changes they've made, I will wholesomly and understandably see that the Final Fantasy 7 of the PlayStation 1 era might actually be closed and that Universe might be over. But look on the bright side, lol, at least a couple hundred years later red XIII shows that we win😊

Mobius was a phenomenal game, had so much fun with it

Being reminded 4mnths later, that First Soldier went away in the blink of an eye. A game that gave me friends, and a community, and dreams of streaming, that were all taken, unceremoniously.

I honestly wish that Record Keeper would come back. I invested so much time and effort getting all of the nightmare records, magicite records, and even managed to complete only one Dreambreaker record. Really miss Record Keeper.😢

FFXIV 1.0 and the story of its rebirth has to be one of the most unique and frankly interesting stories in gaming histories. The Noclip documentary 3 part video really puts everything into perspective on all the behind the scenes details about how the multi-year process of rebuilding the game, the technical issues of 1.0, and the path forward from ARR, really puts this game into a much better perspective. All that being said, Yoshi-P has put this very bluntly, 1.0 is dead and gone, and while the history of 1.0 is super interesting and something that should never be forgotten, it should never be revisited (it’s been brought up in recent years with the ongoing trend of re-releasing old titles, or even going back to MMO titles like WoW and re-vitalizing Vanilla and the older expansions. Yoshida has been very clear this will NEVER happen with FFXIV 1.0). 1.0 should always be remembered as a cautionary tale on what game companies should not do in development, never as something fondly to bring back to be played actively.

Seeing Brave Exvius of all games still alive while Record Keeper and Mobius have been shut down is depressing. I played Mobius for a couple of months around the start of season 2, and even though I got sick of it the way I do all mobile games, the inspiration was obvious. The visuals, the music, the story, you can tell how much effort went into it all, and how the creators had big plans for it. Seeing its plans get cut short just like that genuinely makes me sad in a way I don't feel for other mobile games.

Glad to read that so many people loved FFRK as much as I did. Shame it’s gone now; maybe someone can crack it or something, but I’m not holding my breath.

Loved Mobius and FFRK wish they would just make offline versions of both

I used to play Type 0 online and it always bothered me that we never got an official release in the west, if you wanted to play it at all you had to play it on the Bluestacks emulator. It just sorta broke one day and obviously no attempts to contact support for a non-English game were going to help so I'd entirely forgotten about it until this video. I'm still upset about how they treated Type 0 on the whole, and if I had to pick one to revive I wouldn't pick the mobile game anyway, but it's deeply cynical that this was the project that survived longest.

I miss playing FFXIII. I dont have Steam, and my ps3 is outta commission due to natural causes. Why dont they just port it to PS4& PS5 *sigh*

Mobius FF was such an incredible game! ❤ It was like a perfect mix between the old and the new FF games: it had knights, princesses , and castles, but the graphics, the gameplay , the musics gave me FF13 trilogy vibes. This game was criminally underrated because it was a mobile game, but if SE released a console version, people would see how good it is! "None shall remember those who do not fight." Until we meet again, Wol!

I have both a Wii U with the full version of The After Years downloaded to it and a physical copy of FF4 Collection for PSP. Ironically, I've never played the 3D remake, was hoping they'd eventually port it to Switch but that seems unlikely at this point

A couple of these are effectively out of print rather than not playable, just in digital form. FF4 TAY on the Wii can still be redownloaded if you already bought it. But you need to have the physical console you bought it on as purchases are tied to the console rather than an account. The PSP version is also still available to buy via the Vita store. The same is true for the old mobile/PC versions of V and VI. If you bought them you can still redownload them, they just aren't for sale any more.

I know not a lot of people played Legacy, and I've heard that the mods on it were jerks (never met them), but man oh mally was that a unique experience when I found it. I know there's a mobile "Final Fantasy Legacy" and that's not what I'm referring to. I'm talking about the Byond Final Fantasy Legacy, the "MMO" one. Kinda doubt it's on this list, but man that was an amazing game. My boy Benjamin is one of my favorite FF characters, and I was stoked as hell when I unlocked the "Hero" class.

I've very much wanted to play more Mobius, I've missed it a ton since it went down. I'd love to figure out a way to play it again, it was the only gatcha game I sunk money into for a very long time.

Weird that Mobius hasn't been re-released, considering that they pump out cards for it in the TCG. WoL's got several strong cards (especially in Warrior of Light decks), but he's apparently not important enough for his games to be available anywhere?

I miss playing FF Theatrhythm on the Ipad-- now a days people don't believe me when I mention it. All I have to remember it is a screenshot of getting an S rank score on One Wing Angel, lol.

Soon to be added to this list, Final Fantasy Dissidia : Opera Omnia Sad since it really was a very well done game, especially for a mobile game. At the time of commenting, game shuts down in two weeks after 6 years of being up and running.

The shutdown of the Global version of Final Fantasy Record Keeper was a gut punch for me. Double-edged sword, since its gentler approach to the pay-to-win system likely led to the lack of financial satisfaction.

Now that Record Keeper is gone I'm so sad. That was one of the most fun F2P games I ever played, and it wasn't a game that forced you to whale just to enjoy it. It had so many deep cut references for every character (I mean, Cloud had his attacks from FF Tactics for example) The story they made for the game was good, the characters were charming, and the gameplay was fun. I really will miss it.

Maybe less common now days being how old XIV is now, but look on a character's back between the shoulders if they character has open back clothing on, if there a tattoo there, that mean they played 1.0 and the character was transferred over to 2.0

I think we can all agree that among all of these, terminating Mobius is the biggest crime

As a 14 player i would love for Square to make a smaller 2D game maybe 30$ - 40$ telling the 1.0 story.

Final Fantasy IV PSP After Years is available in the PSN. You can play it on a PS Vita. The physical PSP copy can also be played on a PSP.

As veteran player since the 2004 european release, i have to upgrade the definition of FFXI Online from MMO to MMORPG. May it be from game internal limitation or players convictions at that time, the majority (not all) of the people shared the ideal of the same world. I witnessed that. With (atleast a minimal consensus of roleplay) certain rules applied all over the game world in terms of nation, race, job, ability and gear with their own unique standing, people were proud of. Atleast until a certain change, to break the connection of visuals and jobs and breaking with the roleplay principles at around 2015 and further, people did not run around naked, in swim suits, playboy bunny suits or fullbody seasonal sets like elephants in FFXIV Online at this point of time. And with missing the current comfort features of FFXIV Online, we had a kind of social self-regulation, because we HAD to (and had the time to) talk with each other, in order to get things done. So I will always "fight" for the definition of FFXI Online as MMORPG.

The Steam mobile ports of 5 and 6 are still available directly from SquareEnix store. The pixel remasters didn't include the extra content from those. Also, mods.

The sad part about FFIV TAY's 3D Remake is that the bonus bosses you'd face at "The Crystal" chapter (being the last one) are not there, it would've been interesting to see those bosses in 3D.

Of all the mobile FF games, Brave Exvius is the only one I've ever given even a single shit about. If Square doesn't eventually package it into an epic console release version when it eventually bites the dust, there is no justice in this world.

Everyone in my linkshell in FFXI were excited to check out FFXIV when it was announced, and were disappointed at how bad it was. I can't remember what the source was, but it was said SE had purchased a partially developed game, and used that unfinished game as a framework to hasten production, and save on development costs. That's supposedly what caused the many bugs since not all of the code was written in-house by SE. Not sure if that story has any truth to it, but that's what was being said at the time.

Honestly though, the glow up that Final Fantasy 14 had between 1.0 and ARR up to this point post Endwalker is absolutely amazing and the perfect video game fail and then succeed story

FFRK was the greatest gacha game I have ever played. Played since the first month all the way to the eos. I have experienced such heartbreaking situation with Tales of the Rays Global. If only FFRK was more treated in popularity with DFFOO and FFBE, maybe it will continue on. I'm glad the Theatrhythm FF Bar Line has both FFRK and Mobius FF OSTs and I hope SE would add more OSTs from those two, specifically Eden Battle and Sophie's Battle theme

FFRK global is no longer running. For many years was my essential FF experience with perfected classic battle system. It's still running in Japan, I envy them still able to play that masterpiece.

ALL of these games can be downloaded a ROMS and emulated on a basic PC for free. Takes about an hour in total to set-up and get into the title screen. I play upscaled to 1080p and hacks to give me 60FPS and save states are also available.

I’m missing two chapters of The After Years on my Wii. I had been playing it on and off and had no clue the Wii Shop was closing. It’s a bummer that I’ll get to finish that game in its original form.

FFX|V Also had a FATIGUE system, so if you gained a certain amount of EXP in one day, you would start getting increasingly diminishing amounts of EXP for that class and you would have to level something else

I miss playing Dirge of Cerberus but it only came out for the ps2.

SE hasnt been able to make a mobile game as good as mobius and its so tragic it went the way it did. Because it was in house it had access to assets for collab with other SE titles before they were out. A playable ff7r cloud was in mobius long before it came out. There's a moment in ff14 stormblood that was directly used as an LB for a playable Y'shtola long before that patch dropped. I loved mobius for that, it was a quality game and a sneak peek at what was down the pipeline.

Pictlogica Final Fantasy was one of my favorite phone games. I loved that game so much! (Not the 3ds version. The phone version was much more robust)

Final Fantasy 7 is the only game that feels like the only game that is right maybe it’s because of the characters like Cloud and Tifa that makes people want to play more

I at one point had the FFIV complete Collection on my PSP, but it had battery issues, so I had to sell it. Also wished I'd picked up The After Years on Wii before the shutdown, but sadly, that one is gone as well.

I may be primarily a War of the Visions player now but my favorite FF gacha is still Mobius

Before crisis was my jam,and its true it does add alot of backstory to shinra and how the choices of the turks made the shell of ff7

No one ever talks about FF7 First Soldier. I know it wasn't a story based game really but it was so much fun and miss playing it so much. There's no other game quite like it, at least not for me.

My Life as a King and My Life as a Darklord, too, are still stranded in Wiiware.

I hope they have sunset plans for Brave Exvius and War of the Visions. Both are great games with their own stories and characters while also celebrating the series as a whole. It wouldn't take much to make them offline, and I'd be fine with paying $20 each to continue to have them.

I really liked Mobius but my phone wasnt good enough back then and i disliked the toned down graphics for low res. Years later when i joined back again i had such a blast with the game and all the new cards and jobs available and such a long and ongoing story. Sad thing is i joined back into the game weeks before its shutdown in our region. I couldnt even finish the story to the furthest point available and I wanted to max some jobs i received but actually I couldnt. Still feels bad man. I also do think that if the release wouldve happened nowadays it wouldve been a much bigger success since its easy to play, story driven + mp mode and has a good story you could follow through. Also maybe some better offers like battle pass and stuff so it could survive for much longer. Really miss this game, the only game I would go back to while ditching everything else on my mobile if i could, heck maybe even prefering this game rather than my ps5 for now.
