Most gringos call it "Guad" which for me reminds me of Guam and sounds just wrong and out of place. Yet, that's a name they can correctly pronounced, so it's ok I guess
@@HITCSevens it's pretty alright but if you just don't say the "G" and say "Wah" instead (like Waluigi from Mario but without the emphasis since it doesn't have an accent which I know is a weird description but just trust me... please) it'll sound pretty spot on. If anyone wants to correct me, please also give Alfie a better tip so he can actually take something away from this whole interaction
As far as I'm aware, Altınordu's policy is not restricted to only local players but rather to any Turkish player, in other words they just don't sign any foreigners. Maybe it has started off as the former but changed to the latter as the club progressed higher in the Turkish football ladder. Clubs playing in tier 3 and below aren't allowed to sign foreign players anyway, so it would make sense that they only fielded local players (probably players born in the Aegean Region of Turkey) when they were playing lower tier football. That being said, Altınordu still has arguably the best and most modern academy system of any Turkish club and they probably feature more academy players in their senior squad than any other Turkish team. They also haven't changed their manager since the current president came and adopted the said transfer policy, which means he has been in the club for 9 years now. This is highly unusual in Turkey given that managers in Turkey tend to stay in their clubs for around 3 months in average and there have already been 5 managers sacked by/resigned from Süper Lig clubs during the first 3 weeks of this season. As a final note, Altınordu has reached the promotion play-off final last year to be promoted to the Süper Lig but they lost to their local rivals Altay. Funny enough, upon reaching the play-offs and later the final, the club president has expressed multiple times his opinion that the club is not ready to play first tier football yet and he actually would rather his team not get promoted.
Well, it's been lenient in its restrictions too...it's not like there are neccesarily only people who praise and then people who critisize it as HITC suggests, their core philosophy is to be praised, their inconsistency applying it to be highlighted
Always found the fact that Bilbao never been relegated with such restrictive transfer policy very VERY impressive. Plus, they have Sociedad also fighting them for most Basque players even though their transfer policy is not restrictive. Real Sociedad also like to have as many Basque players as possible.
Is it the same restrictions with Bilbao on Football manager? Fancy starting a new career in Spain n would like to try Bilbao cos it will be a challenge if these restrictions are in place..
If you do another it would be cool to include UCD. Play in the first division in Ireland (second tier) and only field players who are students at the University. Jamie McGrath, the Ireland international, had played on the U19 team but couldn't move up to the senior squad because he didn't get accepted into the university.
Haha I know about them (as an American) solely through them being the lowest rated team in FIFA 14, constantly played with them in the career mode back then
Chivas best academy players: 1. Carlos Vela (Arsenal, Real Sociedad, West Brom), 2. Javier Hernandez (Man United, Bayer Leverkusen, Sevilla, Real Madrid) 3. Carlos Salcido (PSV, Fulham) 4. Maza Rodriguez (PSV, Stuttgard) 5. Marco Fabian (Frankfurt)
nahh trust it makes it easier cos the team cohesion is insane, at bilbao i won the league in my second and third seasons and came second on 98 points in my third, woild defo recommend a bilbao save
I managed Athletic Club on one save, but always ended up finishing outside the Euro places by either a single point or head to head results, and losing a domestic cup final on one occasion. If I remember goal difference isn't used in the Spanish league unless the teams cannot be separated on results against each other. I think.
@@FPSPRINCESS yeah head to head is more important, i prefer it though as it makes games against similar level teams more important, i remember playing barca and celebrating a consolation goal when i was 2-0 down so much because it put me ahead on head to head

Loved how you included Altınordu. As a Turk and a Fenerbahçe supporter I can say something where even the supporters from the rival teams will agree on... And that is that Altınordu is a club that is impossible to hate. Thanks to them we now have star players in Europe like Çağlar Söyüncü, Cengiz Ünder and Burak İnce and more will come. They actually use Athletic Bilbao as a sample club when they're talking about their business model. There have been some criticism towards their policies for a good reason since they're focusing a lot on discipline. For instance it was rumoured that it turned out that when Cengiz Ünder came to Başakşehir that pretty much his whole was inside the training centre so that Başakşehir had to help him to get a better social life especially in İstanbul. Anyway, hopefully Altınordu took that criticism seriously because they're the best example in Turkey how a football club should be run and how they're doing it on the non-turkish way. Because is there anything that our Turkish clubs is known for is that lot of the boards want quick success and they start flow cash very irresponsibly which ends with same story... No success on the field after that, which ends up with mega-huge debts and don't get me started on a lot of talents that is bought by the big 4 clubs in Istanbul and Trabzon from Anatolia where they fail to adapt themselves to the new live life there. Sadly, that has happened too often. Ask players like Sezer Öztürk, Okan Koç and Sercan Yıldırım about how İstanbul ruined them. Don't get me started on the fallen former title contendors like Eskişehirspor, Gaziantepspor, Karabükspor, Orduspor, Mersin İdmanyurdu, Bursaspor, Kocaelispor and Sakaryaspor. I really feel for their supporters considering what kind of mess they have been forced to go through thanks to their stupid club boards who sat them in that mess. That's the reasons why Altınordu is seen as a good example in Turkish football for a good reason.
As a fellow Turk and avid supporter of Galatasaray İ wholeheartedly agree with everything you wrote. The focus on short term success continues to cripple our footballing development to this day. Ayrıca İngiliz diline sizin kadar hakim olan bir Türk ilen çok nadiren karşılaştım, helal olsun
The fall of South African Football (Day 4) From 1996 Africa cup of nations Champions and with South African Stars in the Premier league like Benny McCarthy(won the '04 Champions league with Mourinho at Porto) , Steven Pienaar, Quinton Fortune , Shaun Barlett etc , it seems like corruption , bad coaching and unprofessionalism has plagued football to oblivion in my country and footballers of South Africa.
Says plenty about African Football I remember watching your Ghanain and Nigerian footballers in the 80s and 90s They played great football with massive flair and style like the Brazil Joga Bonito of old For some reason it has been completely corrupted out of them as their players have been Europeanised It almost like they have been sabotaged
Fun fact: Malaysia's u23s used to compete in Malaysian 2nd division and then compete in Singapore's League as Harimau Muda (Young Tiger in English). As exchange, Singapore send their team to compete in Malaysian Super League as Lions XII.
To add to this, Lions XII even won the Malaysian Super League in 2013 and the FA Cup in 2015. The Harimau Muda team did alright in their earlier seasons in the S-League, but later they ended up as one of the worst teams in the league. Harimau Muda was also sent to play in the Australian NPL (don't remember which region though) in 2013. Malaysia also used to have a similar youth team club in the 90s called Olympic 2000, and also currently the FAM-MSN Squad which is made up of U-19 players and is dead last in the Malaysian second division.
Part of my family lives in Chertanovo in Moscow, and I have been there some times, so I followed them a bit. But I never thought, that I would hear about them on this channel. Thank you.
As a Sunderland fan that hits hard. The sheer amount of cash we spent on utter crap is silly and even in League 1 we are still paying money for these planks whether it be wages at other clubs or transfer fees. Thankfully our new policy as of this season seems to be a good one so far.
What Bielsa achieved at Bilbao was insane. Let it sink in. With such a limited number of players available he still managed European football and some success. Insane.
and then Valverde did what Bielsa couldn’t and put them in the Champions League and won silverware (after Bielsa almost relegated them) but because he’s not a hipster manager he doesn’t get any credit for it.
thanks for talking about my hometown club Chivas de Guadalajara!!! Arriba las chivas!!! btw you actually pronounced Guadalajara correctly (that's coming from a Mexican)
Paksi FC in Hungary. Only Signing hungarian players, they finished 4th in the last season, scoring record breaking amount of goals in the history of the 12 team hungarian first class system. Of course giving the top scorer of the league.
I actually say Young Lions play at Jalon Besar Stadium while I was in Singapore visiting in 2011. Nice little stadium, but the league is very undervalued by the locals. The attendance was between 100-200 people. It was a very good game.
Very undervalued, had the chance to represent the now defunct Woodlands Wellington at youth level and definitely watched the senior team games. Particularly Woodlands Wellington had the highest attendance in their last 2-3 years before merging with Hougang United and ultimately ending the team from competing. Locals here prefer watching the EPL and european football rather than their own local football team, weird but it is what is is. Such a sad state we are in right now, even when the league is picking up once again and National team playing well. Fans are still not appreciating our local team 😭
@@NazirulAmir77The interest for the league has actually grown alot now since covid. My club, Home United, got privatised in 2020 and has revolutionised Singapore Football as well as bringing tons of fans. another similar team to the Young Lions exists in the Philippine Premier League called the ADT (Azkals Development Team). The azkals being the name for the national team. The team is managed by the national team manager as well, and is under the control of the FA in order to develop homegrown players for the national team. “The ADT was formed after it was observed that other countries participating in the southeast Asian games already had many players participating in professional leagues while Filipino players of the same age still involved in collegiate football. The development team is intended give "professional club environment" exposure to mainly youth players as well as select overage players from the senior national team such as individuals who recently recovered from an injury.”
As an Altinordu fan I can't even put into words how happy and cheerful I was when I saw my team in the video. Thanks for making our club's name known. Keep up the good work!
Alfie can you do a video documenting the rise and fall of Oldham Athletic and how they managed to go from being founding members of the Premier League and having competed in the top-flight at recently as 1994 to now favourites to get relegated out of the Football League altogether here in 2021?
Before moving to Canada, I was able to witness in person the Chivas win in 2017, it was exciting. Later here they played against Toronto and I was able to watch one of the matches! I'm happy to see my grandfather's club champion twice
Funny enough the guy who led to the creation of Chivas was from Belgium and he based the kit off of Club Brugge who used to wear red blue and white at the time
Club Brugge didn't use to wear red, blue and white at any time. BUT go look for the FLAG of Brugge, and you'll see why Chivas wears a red&white stripped jersey with blue shorts.
@@kevinp9403 sure, the flag of the city has those colors, it's just that it wasn't the reason why 115 years ago they settled on those colors. (also, your version was the official version for decades, and it's still the most common version that you hear, so it's not really your fault :) )
Athletic's transfer policy isn't necessarily because of Basque nationalism. There are a decent amount of Spanish nationalists or people who see themselves as equally Spanish/Basque who support the club. The policy started out as a "Bilbainada": doing something in an arrogant way because someone says you can't. Some team said they only won because they had British players, so they decided to only field local players out of spite, essentially. At first it was only local-local players from the Basque province of Bizkaia. Nowadays, they've expanded it to all of the Basque Country, with an emphasis on "formation" over birthright. In any case, being ethnically Basque doesn't necessarily make you eligible. In that sense, its sort of nationalist, in that it embraces the idea of the Greater Basque Country (I mean, they speak Basque in Navarre and France, too) but at the same time, its not an ethnic thing either. Their youth system will take in newly arrived immigrants without hesitation (like Diarra in their B team).
Since you mentioned Indian Arrows , I would like to add something. In a 'cricket frenzy' country like India having a developmental team for the youngsters by the AIFF itself and having them play in the second top division itself is a big thing. Indian Arrows too are an U21 side and aims to provide playing time for players graduating from the U17 national side whom are yet to be picked up by top Indian clubs. They play against other professionally run clubs in the league that have mix of both Indian and foreign players. And huh having the average age at not more than 19 years, the oldest player in the Indian Arrows setup will not be above 21. So the football lovers in MY COUNTRY like me doesn't care where they finishes in the table as long as the players get to play and improve.
i learned the hard way about Bilbao's policy when i become their manager in FM, young and aspiring manager from division 2 just left with a pikachu face when i know i have a limited option
Greetings from Singapore. Nice research on the Young Lions. There's actually been calls the scrap the Young Lions for several years as it disincentivises Youth Development by the other clubs. and promotes a defeatist mentality since the young team are frequently trashed every week. Apart from Albirex Niigata's satellite team, there's another team competing in Singapore, DPMM FC, a team comprising of only players from Brunei. Funfact: from 2015 to 2020, the Singapore league has been won 4 times by Albirex and 2 times by DPMM.. So we've had a foreign champion for 6 years in a row (which is probably a record?).

Countries with a national development/youth team that either played or is currently playing in the national league: -Cambodia (Bati Youth) -India (Indian Arrows) -Macau (MFA Development) -Malaysia (Harimau Muda/Olympic 2000 Team/Skuad FAM-MSN) -Northern Mariana Islands (All Blue/Team Ayuyu) -Philippines (Azkals Development Team) -Singapore (Young Lions) Besides Gimcheon Sangmu, South Korea also used to have another team that utilizes footballers on military duty which is Asan Mugunghwa.
I have a very, very strict rule when I play championship manager - if you're 32, you're out the door, and only buy players between 17 and 23. Works for me, would it work in the real world?
Great and interesting video, another policy in the Mexican league, LIGA MX, is the Tijuana team, where the president allows ONLY Red cleats on the players, thus making them a lot to be customized
