@@SpringtrapLover2010 Yepp. Totally agree with you on this one. Stuttgart gave him a huge favor by demoting him to a lower level seeing as he is constantly injured anyway, he still gets to play without losing his contract
Kevin Großkreutz, the World Cup and Bundesliga winner now plays for TUS Bövinghausen 04, which is 800m away from my appartment lol 7 years ago I couldn't even imagine living in the same city as him :)
I played alongside Adebowale Ogungbure in Hong Kong’s legal league (amateur division). Although not a top player, a former bundesliga player at the age of 40 alongside me (18 and not very good) in midfield was a very strange dynamic
As a Reading fan, I remember Royston playing back in 2013-14. You can see how talented he was in small flashes. Scored a worldy free-kick against Leeds. Best player on the pitch when he could be arsed.

For more context on the güiza suitation as a spanish guy living in getafe myself, every kid here wanted to be like him, he was an incredible young talent destroying the scoring records of the millionaire signings of the other teams at la liga. Sadly, suddenly he found himself with more money than he could ever waste and started partying and drinking like crazy, and went from the young talent who a lot of people said was even going to surpass david villa to an overweighted guy who skipped training and had an alcohol addiction and no one wanted in the span of like 2 years, thats why he joined fenerbache, it was not because he was good enough or not, he was amazing, but no team wanted an agressive guy with problems with alcohol and no discipline who skipped all trainings and sometimes even important matches to party and drink like a maniac, and after a few years his lifestyle paid off and couldnt even rely on the fact that he was a good scorer because he wasnt anymore and started dropping down the leagues.
I fear you have got Real Murcia mixed up with Racing Murcia, as Murcia play in Segunda B not as stated in the video and it appears Drenthe and Pogba signed for Racing Murcia this Season and as a shareholder in Real Murcia it would certainly be a very interesting longer form video about the history of the club especially in the last 20 years.

Totally. One of my ‘claim to fame’ stories is of playing a season in the same team as former England captain and European Cup winner, Emlyn Hughes.. very many moons ago obviously. This was for The Rock Tavern, Dronfield, and he was doing it for the love of the game, keeping in shape and a bit of banter. Lovely fella. Tragically he died only a few years after this, a great loss too. One of the greats of English football.

Not of that generation but definitely the most notable Bhutanese footballer of all time is Chencho Gyeltshen. Had some successful stints in India and is still quite young so could still play at a higher level.
Michael Essien, man ... After loaned to Real Madrid in 2012~2013 from Chelsea, this become the last he ever play at high level & played like a proper star player. He barely being use in Milan, even failed to impress when moved to Panathinaikos. Then for money sake, he sign for my hometown FC who's not even compete in Asian Champion League ... Persib Bandung and his performance are awful compared his salary. We're plan for 3 years of contract, but then we're discontinue after just 1 season. He then moved to Azerbaijan's Sabail ... still failed at that level too.
Sani Kaita from Nigeria now plays for Redhouse FC in the Swindon & District League! Used to play with him last season. He played at 2010 World Cup vs Messi!
People usually say it's better to retire on a high but I see no problem with former stars playing for low league teams. They still love the game and just accept they can longer perform at a certain level but still want to have fun playing the game they like. Nothing but respect for that.

Haven't followed football in a long time and was amused at how I knew practically *none* of these players, but it did make me think of a video you could do: 7 well-known players from the 90s who are still playing today! Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the top one I can think of.
Off the top of my head... Gianluigi Buffon is a definite. I’m pretty sure Maxi Rodriguez, Fabio Quagliarella, Joaquín, Claudio Pizarro & Roque Santa Cruz are all still playing, otherwise they’ve very recently retired. Jamie Cureton is still playing, although I think he’s now player-manager in the non leagues & I read something the other week about Kenny Miller still playing. Not sure if Franck Ribéry or Giorgio Chiellini started their careers in ‘99 or 2000, but they’d be close.
As someone who is following Bendtners ex on insta, it was rather obvious that Bendtner really didn't take football seriously. I'd say 90% of the time she posted anything about him was to complain about how much time he spent gaming with his friends.
In terms of the cover photo for this video, I love the irony of how the sponsor over the shoulder of the player is only a misspelling of what he’s probably thinking as he signs for that club.

Paul Ifill is an interesting case, he played for millwall, sheffield and crystal Palace back in the day and now he's playing literally across the world for wairarapa united in the 2nd tier of New Zealand football.......
I remember watching Drenthe at an Under 21 European Championships, he really was the most exciting player of the tournament, i thought he was destined for greatness based off these games. Unfortunately he never lived up to the hype
I’ve been doing some research along these lines, but it’s more aimed at world class players who played their last game at really obscure clubs. The most incredible one I’ve discovered so far is the Brazilian football player from the 70s & 80s, Socrates. He doesn’t appear to have won many football trophies, but was a very highly regarded international who won 60 caps with his country, and is considered one of the top 100 players of all time. His last match was for Garforth Town, which I believe was a 7th tier amateur side in a northern English league at the time.
Lee Sharpe 1988 - 96 Manchester United ( 3 Premier Leagues, 2 FA cups, 1 Euro cup winners cup).........2004 21 appearances for Garforth Town in the Northern Counties East Premier league.....
Funny story: Romário, 1994 Ballon D'or winner, played until the age of 41; though he did play for the likes of Adelaide FC in his final years, he also had one last great season in 2005, at the age of 39, for Fluminense, and then retired with a short, but worthy run for Vasco in 2007. Which is a lot better than a lot of players in this list, surely - Maicon especially. I wasn't even aware he was still playing O.o
If I could be a professional footballer I would play until I couldn’t. Julio Arca is prime example, even after the dizzying heights of Boro and Sunderland was still playing and living in South Shields in his 40s - that’s a proper player
Bit of a random video idea: If nations within nations had national teams (like Cornwall, Bavaria, Venice, Catalonia, Frisia, Britanni, Basque Country etc) who could play for them
Since you mentioned Frisia, that one would get especially interesting/complicated because Frisia covers parts of both Germany and the Netherlands, I guess something like a Basque national team would be similar
@@merobo5066 I think there are small Frisian communities in southern Denmark as well! I think Arjen Robben is Frisian, so that's one world class player right there

Having looked into this only a little bit, I couldn't find anyone of anywhere near the same calibre as Robben for the "German side" of the Frisian national team (the best player I found with surface level search was Sebastian Polter)
For non-UK people we already feel that way about the fact that you have Wales, England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland haha. Feels weird to us not to see just a UK team, although I understand why it's that way
Well that's life and how careers go for many in every industry. Sometimes the priorities that matter to us change and not all of use can stay 100% focused and commited to the same thing we started out at. You can be physically strong but you can be week mentally or in many other ways.
I'd love to see more older players going on to play for lower league clubs I have to say. And more clubs should have numbers in their names e.g. Newcastle NE1 (the club's postcode).
Love your videos but I have a suggestion... towards the end of your sentences it is hard to hear the last word you say. I don’t know if it’s the editing or if your words just kind of trail off towards the end but it is extremely hard to understand what you are saying a lot of the time and especially in this one. Maicon was signed by my local team (Avaí) around 2018 or something, I don't think he ever played any game in either state championship (in Brazil we got those) or Brazilian 2nd Division, which was a shame, i'd love to see him play in Avaí's shirt.
Yeah, that "Renaissance" for Bendtner at Rosenborg was abruptly ended when he spat in the face of the bartender that refused him service, then tried starting a fight when he was escorted out by bouncers, and smashed in a window or two, before the police picked him up, when he was supposed to show up at training in a few hours. After his contract was annulled, and he had returned to Denmark, he was sentenced for assault on a cab driver. Proper gent.
