Van Hanegem is a great example, star player of the Feyenoord team that won the European Cup and arguably the Netherlands' second best player ever, ahead of van Basten, Gullit, Robben etc., yet he is rarely mentioned anymore. Besides having brilliant technique and vision, he was nicknamed 'the Crooked' for his outside of the boot curling passes across the pitch, he was a notoriously tough tackler, very physical despite his lack of pace, and regularly scored double figures in the Eredivisie as well.

A name that comes to mind is Santiago Cañizares, goalkeeper for Valencia during their really good period of early 2000s. He was one of the outstanding GKs in Spanish football, but he happened to coincide with a rising star like Casillas. Cañizares was very highly regarded in Spain and would feature for the NT some times, but Casillas was most often the first choice and would become far more recognized internationally. It's fair, as Casillas really was a top-3 world class GK, but Cañizares was also brilliant in his own right, and could have been a bit more widely known if Casillas hadn't burst into the scene at such a young age.

From an arsenal fans perspective, who went to every highbury game during pires time at the club, I got to disagree about his inclusion. Everyone was well aware of him being just as important as Henry. It sounds like sounds like the opinion of someone that is too young to remember the period. If you wanted an example of an under rated player at arsenal during the period, Gilberto Silva is your man. "The invisible wall" is the most under rated player I have seen at arsenal, he even got heckled by arsenal fans.

I am from Mexico and over here we only had the EPL on cable for a few seasons in the late 2000's. I remember Gilberto Silva had a pretty wild goal-scoring run during one of those seasons. @@HITCSevens Pires ability should probably be mentioned more akin to the likes of Giggs or Ginola. They still get a retrospective look and rightly so as building the bricks of what premier league widemen should be. Heck, even Beckham’s crossing ability from wide is still a referenced hallmark of the league even if it pales in comparison to his fame. That Arsenal left wing and Robert Pires’ contribution to it is actually something to be highlighted and built upon. Pires ability should probably be mentioned more akin to the likes of Giggs or Ginola. It’s really some of the best footballing offerings the league has given us since ‘92. It was a definitive step forward to the European technical quality where we are now.

You should look into Jorge El Mágico Gonzalez, a player Maradona, said was better than himself, but never gets much love from being from a small country

If u ask any arsenal fan about thier glory years, they all remember pires bergkamp and henry. Most of the midfield credit went to Patrick Vieira ..but who people still tend to forget is Gilberto Silva.

Instantly thought of Zidane and Djorkaeff. Without Zidane the French side would have been built around djorkaeff 96-2000

The thing not to be forgotten about Ángel di María is that he was one of the best players of Man United until during one of his matches somebody broke into his house and held his family at knifepoint IIRC. Anybody saying he was a bust should ask themselves how should he have kept performing in circumstances like that. And it say a lot about how good a player he was that even then he had the 3rd most assists in the whole division. He is more fairly appreciated outside of England, I think. People aren't concerned with the one season at Man Utd when you have a decade and a half at Benfica, Real Madrid and PSG.

You should do a video on the 7 best player-managers ever or the most clubs represented by the same player and manager duo, for example Benitez and Rondon

Surely Redknapp with Defoe, Crouch and Kranjcar or Allardyce and Kevin Nolan.

I saw Nicky Butt playing for Birmingham a fair bit and must query your suggestion of him as an honorable mention. What do you think happened to him by that stage if his inclusion for consideration in such a list is truly valid?

robert pires was one of my fav players ...... he was truely criminally underrated .. carrick was the solution to the English golden generation, but they went with stardom, rather than quality .... Di Maria is basically criticized in England ... rest of the world knws hw talented he is ..... one bad season (whr he was initially good in beginning) doesn't defines a players career ....

Because of politics is why Wayne Rooneys name is not mentioned, the most overshadowed player in the history of football if he did follow Ronaldo to Real Madrid,he would still be playing like Bale, but because of the signing of Ronaldo than and now is put a burden on his legacy,at Manchester united, his own country, turned there back on him...one of the greatest

Di María was awarded man of the match in the 2014 Champions League final. This made CR7 so annoyed that he bitched about looking over at Di María in the dying minutes before Ramos had scored the 93rd minute equaliser, and saw that Di María had apparently given up... I think anyone who'd just put in a man of the match performance in a major final, could be forgiven for feeling gutted that it seemed they were mere minutes from losing and their great game was in vein. Di María was probably exhausted. He worked harder for the defensive side than CR7. CR7 overshadowed Di María at Madrid. Messi overshadowed him for Argentina. Then at PSG, Mbappé, Neymar, Messi, Ibrahimović...

Di Maria's issue at United is more than just being 'deemed a flop' - it's the fact he never wanted to be there, made that fact known, was petulant and inconsistent and just generally both he and his wife treated United like it was beneath him - he wanted to go to PSG from Real, but Real didn't want to sell him to them, so he came to us instead, and he acted like it.
