If I remember correctly, Michael Laudrup would have played on for one more season at Ajax, if they had managed to sign his brother for the 1998-99 season. They had never played together at club level, and it would have been a fairytale ending for them both. Ajax did try to sign Brian, but he left Rangers for Chelsea instead. The next season he did come to Ajax, but his brother Michael had unfortunately already retired by then.

In a nutshell: if you're old, join Ajax.

He set the new bar for goalkeepers, but as a goalkeeper, even his incredible achievement wasn't beyond the limit of what humankind thought possible. Pepe has broken that barrier, and is setting a record all of his own - one that several past players (out of millions to have played the game) have come close to, but perhaps no future player will ever match.
