After our last video on sad boss fights, you lot put tonnes of excellent examples in the comments. Here are just a handful of them. Be warned: there will be tears. 😭
Yeah I wish we didn't need to kill her and we could instead have her help us in the final battle of the 1st dark souls and she attacks the villain via suprise attack
You know what makes the whole thing worse. We know Sif from earlier in her life. We see and help save Sif. If you haven't done the Sif fight before you help save her, you unlock another cutscene where she recognises you, and howls, before picking up her Masters sword. It makes an already sad fight, even sadder. Sif is best pup.
Never got past Papyrus in the genocide run. His unwavering faith in me had me sparing him right then and there. I could never bring myself to do it, despite multiple attempts.
Paarthurnax? That's weird, I remember there only being one option to that Blades quest, forsaking the Blades for even suggesting that I fight my cool dragon friend. THE ONLY OPTION.
Ya, kinda don't get the blades. I was expecting an option to tell them to shove off but we didn't get it. If the quest is still in your inventory talk to agnar or what ever his name is and tell him you wount kill parthanax and the quest will complete.
Jane's 'anti-fidget spinner and other viral sensations' wrath is both relatable and terrifying. I suppose we should be grateful it gives her something to concentrate her powers on...
Well After Many months watching outside Xbox and Outside Xtra i need to say that Jane make a excellent Absolute ruler, Sure she isn't Nice, but she had her reason and they are good enough for me. on other side, i have Fear of Ellen, she look and sound like someone that would hurt a Spider... but I am sure she can be more brutal that Jane Douglas.
Ironic, isn't it? Fidget spinners were meant to help students who have trouble paying attention in class, eventually became a reason why students were getting distracted.
yeah... another would be fighting terra. wich was also kinda rough. but i bet i can top roxas. how about Xion. knowing that roxas has to end her life in order to get sora back. read more if u dont care about spoilers. or in kh3 when u finally realise that after beating xion and roxas it wasnt so bad because they all came back :D
There's also a little bit in re:coded where roxas confronts data sora about the meaning of true pain. And in ddd roxas is acknowledged by sora as a person, an existence
Hollow knight is my favorite game, and seeing that scene everytime breaks my heart, I would also like to two point out about the broken vessel's battle was also sad, seeing that it's body reached out to the knight at the end of the battle. Which was sad too.
And yet, that somehow makes it such a good game. It's not edgy, its sad. It views death as a tragedy and something that should be mourned. And not just for characters that are your friends. For people you don't know, for people you don't like, it's still awful.
for me the saddest moment is facing Uumuu, because it marks the end of Quirrel's story. The first time I realized what happened to Quirrel I cried for about 20 minutes, and I'm about to just thinking about it.
Square Enix: “Hey, didja like our first game?” Me: yeah, I guess. Square enix: “and didja like the character you played as?” Me: yeah, he was cool! Square enix: *“Well, guess what? You have to kill him. Here’s a sword, go kill him.”* Me: “wait what-“ Square enix: *“FUCKING DO IT.”*
Agreed, while it hurt that Roxas was unable to continue living or keep his promise to Xion.... The fight leading to Xion's death hurt far worse cause he had to fight one of his best friends and in my personal opinion...someone he unknowingly loved. NOTHING hurts worse than someone you love dying in your arms, especially when you know it was by YOUR HAND they was struck down. Regardless of the fact she forced him to do it in order to save him from being tossed aside like a pawn who outlived it's usefulness. She knew Xemnas was going to do it too, he didn't care who won, in the end he still got a powerful keybearer for his Organization....or so he believed at the time. Not counting on Riku stopping Roxas and helping DiZ imprison him to reunite with Sora later on.
I was upset for years that I had to pick when I played on 360 for the first few times. I always picked the side of Paarthurnax, screw the Blades... went back and shouted them off a ledge once or twice for good measure. Then came the glorious day when I bought the GOTY edition on PC after selling my 360 and low and behold a godsend of a mod called "The Paarthurnax Dilemma" Lets you tell the Blades to piss off while maintaining your good standing with them I still don't like the entire idea of that choice ebing forced though. I'm Dragonborn, I'm in charge. Respect mah authoritah
Great Grey Wolf Sif, Dark Souls 1. His intentions aren’t even to protect Artorias, it’s to protect you. He was given the Covenant of Artorias Ring so that no one would ever try to traverse the Abyss again and become corrupted by it like Knight Artorias. In fact, if you play the DLC before you fight Sif, the cutscene is extended and he will jump on you, but recognize your scent and your face, then forlornly go pick up Artorias greatsword in his mouth and turn to face you. He doesn’t want to fight his buddy but he has to
Sad boss fight, and same with Gael from DS3. Gael is merely trying to get the dark soul for his lady (the small girl in the Ariandel Chapel.) Also, it’s basically the last fight in the Dark Souls series ever...
The worst bit about paarthurnax is that when you chat to him about killing him, he tells that it’s probably in all fairness, a good idea because to fight his destructive nature is a constant struggle, and he doesn’t know if he’ll one day succumb to those desires.
Guys, the pick for NieR wasn't bad but the REAL sad fight was the last one. The REAL last one. Not only you have to fight a character you have been encouraged to get attached to, but you know there is no point in doing so.
The saddest part of the Hollow Knight fight is that the music changes from an energetic battle theme to a sad violin theme once he starts stabbing himself in the chest.
I know we already have Sans AND Papyrus, but I recently finished the True Pacifist Ending of Undertale. And the most difficult boss to fight was- SPOILER ALERT ... King Asgore. He literally lost him adopted child AND biological child due to humans, and his wife left him since he declared war on the entire human race. He killed every human that fell underground until he got seven human souls. And your character happens to be the seventh human that fell down. The reason Asgore needed seven human souls was because with the willpower of the souls, he will gain the power of a god, and punish humans for the pain they've inflicted on monster-kind. Dark, right? Anyways, when you encounter him, the thing that really makes you fell bad is that he really is a nice flower-loving, soft-hearted guy, and doesn't really want to fight to, but feels that he has to for the civilians of his kingdom. This backstory, on top of the very large difficulty, make this boss amazing, yet VERY, VERY sad at the same time.
Fair point however i feel Toriel's is worse on the neutral ending. After helping you at the beginning til the end. Her husband is dead, her son is long gone and you - the potential last bridge between humans and monsters making peace- is the cause of the damnation of the underground society. You who so strongly reminds Toriel of the first child ( Chara) that she adopted , placed her remaining hope and trust in to bring the king, her husband to his senses and peace between two races. Gone. Goat Mommy :'( the gateway to escape the monster underworld - now sealed like the fate of the remaining monsters you haven't killed. Unlike Papyrus - do you think Toriel could ever believe in you again? the damage thats been done cannot be undone - in that timeline ;)
If you think defeating Roxas was sad, try 358/2 Days when you're playing AS him defeating Xion! She was the second character, in games, I've ever cried over! First one being Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite
Oh The Hollow Knight fight. Where do I begin? The pale king created hundreds of vessels in hopes of creating on completely void of emotion. He thought that The Hollow Knight was perfect for this but little did he knew that he wasn't perfect. The Hollow Knight was locked away with the infection inside him. Years of suffering, trapped away by his own creator only to be destroyed by one of his siblings. This fight made me cry.
Not to mention the even worse fight ending where you don't dream nail the hollow knight and slap hornet like an absolute idiot. (For those who don't know: Hornet is the protector of hallownest and helps the knight once it proves itself. She is also a sibling of the vessels, as pale king was her father. So: On the fight with hollow knight she can help you once you weaken the boss. She can't stay at the arena too long. So, she holds the boss so that you can access his dream realm to fight the source of the infection - the radiance. However, you can hit the hollow knight and she will fall off, bringing you a worse ending, just because hornet becomes a seal and you take her down with you.)
Everything about the vessels in hollow knight is sad. I get depressed everytime I watch the scene in the abyss with the pale king throwing away all the useless vessels. They were his children!
Absolutely I did all the work to kill Aldurin and the blades made me do all the work, they only help me find a wall. thats as much a use they have been the whole game was finding a Wall.
*Undertale* “... what is known as the Genocide route, in which you kill everything that moves.” Papyrus: HEY! QUIT MOVING! Chara: I was moving? * kills herself *
I was about to comment that. Not only do you have to fight her in 4 phases, but the last one is the saddest. Like it's not that difficult but her screams when she attacks you. God, it still makes me cry...
Marauder Shields! He tried to save us!! And considering how I play Skyrim the argument 'he murdered lots of people' would have been quite ironic. Just saying. I always partnered with the dragon anyways.
I mean, i murdered alot of people and i'm still considered trustworthy by many other people in Skyrim... Unless it's a crime to kill bandits for attempting to kill me Also Skyrim's crime system makes no sense... Kill a bandit without them even having a chance to retaliate or defend themselves? You're still clean Initiate a fight with someone out in the wilderness? Oh no the guards instantly know your crimes, even if there's absolutely nobody else within a god damn 5 mile radius Murder a fucking chicken? It's off to the slammer with you pal
That's because they f'ed up the "witness" tables to include foxes, rabbits, and horses. You need to kill all of them to make sure they don't tell the guards.
You know, its funny. This video was what inspired me to learn more about hollow knight, and now its one of my favorite games, all because I thought "hey that fight is sad, but in a very real way and its not a metaphor for something. I wonder what the rest of it is like." So thank you outside Xtra. You helped me find a game I truly love and I'm very grateful for it
Makes it more sad if you summoned him in the DLC... He recognizes you and doesn't even wanna fight.. but he is loyal to his deceased master, and doesn't have a choice
I heard Hollow Knight's death scream, suddenly remembered the requirements of a Vessel, and immediately went *"OH, 'NO VOICE TO CRY SUFFERING' MY ASS-"*
@@katjap.3489 Screw them alright. But Installed the mod whre I can do exactely that. I am the Dragon Born, they should do as I say not other way round. Especially after finishing the Main Quest!
@@davidthane9002 After all the world-saving one did, they still go like: "Well, you did, like, 95 % of the actual work and because of that you have a way better understanding of the situation as a whole. But you know what? Here, kill the one soul in skyrim that essentially helped you the most because of something he did centuries ago despite having fully redeemed himself while we sit in our cool fort doing absolutely Jack shit. Thanks"
What if we got a reverse version of this: Boss's who we were glad to destroy? Not in the "Bowser is the villain so I have to kill him" way, but in the "Die you ******* **** ****" way.
I celebrated after every hard (basically just every single one) boss fight in genocide, but the only one that made me stop and reconsider my actions was Muffet. That one little spider laying a flower down in remembrance of Muffet really hit hard.
For reference, he's referring to the Anti-Aqua boss fight in Kingdom Hearts Three where SHE GIVES YOU A HORRIBLE GUILT TRIP FOR LEAVING HER THERE BLUEBERRY MOM I'M SORRY!!!
@@davidthane9002 haha, really? I mean, the guy clearly had some issues if he wanted shot in the face... But if we're talking Borderlands, Tina's DLC gets me every time
one of the most agonizing for me was Nishiki in yakuza kiwami. After playing zero and actually seeing Nishiki's backstory (compared to the original Yakuza where he basically didnt have one) that fight was like being crushed under a giant lead weight
“I don’t get it either and I played both games” “there are 12 games” “Dear God” (Silently looks at Kingdom hearts X and UX and chooses not to say anything rn)
That's what I love about the sweet, precious, innocent, little cinnamon roll that us undertale fans call The Great Papyrus That even after you kill everyone, attack him, CUT HIS FREAKING HEAD OFF. He still loves you. Still thinks you are a good person. F in chat for papy
When you play through Xenoblade 2, early on you don't feel that bad fighting Jin because he seems to be just a bloodthirsty jerk. But once you get later in the game and ESPECIALLY after you play the Torna: the Golden Country prequel you can't help but feel heartbroken for Jin because you know all of the pain and anguish that he carries inside that drives his purpose.
Well, I'm gonna head to Grillby's.... Papyrus, you want anything? R.I.P. Toriel, Papyrus, Monster Kid, Undyne, and Sans The saddest deaths in Undertale.
Parthurnax: Is a wildly powerful nigh immortal monster capable of ravaging the countryside, yet chooses a quiet life of meditation and even directly assists the dragonborn despite knowing full well he's all about slaying dragons. To that point, he even allows you to learn some shouts for free just for being friendly with him. The blades: Stole your reward after a long and arduous dungeon, holds it for ransom unless you join them. Further, it's a bunch of curt, surly racist bastards who aren't above killing, betraying, and manipulating others just to get to their end goals. That end goal is ridding the world of dragons, but they're willing to throw plenty of bodies on that pyre to get it done. Case in point, wanting to kill Parthurnax in cold blood despite his change of heart. Yeah, f@#$ the blades.
Yakuza 1 and 2 had some of the most heart wrenching boss fights I've ever seen. Fighting Nishikiyama at the end of 1 was difficult enough after playing Yakuza 0 for so long. It wasn't helped when he sacrificed himself to kill Jingu. Yakuza 2 had the last fight against Ryuji Goda. Those games were incredible in how they managed to turn someone who starts the game as your worst enemy into someone you respect and even sometimes admire
I killed him once for roleplay purposes in my 10+ full playthroughs of all major quests and I cried doing it. Fuck that he doesn't deserve it. He even betrayed Alduin by teaching mortals how to shout. The 'blades' are disgusting.
I just dont get it why to kill him, I wouldnt even kill him because he is the only dragon who could ever be useful to everyone to understand how dragons work. And he didnt do anything wronh in my opinion, he killed ppl yes, but he is a fucking dragon its in his nature, because still he is a FuCkInG Animal brah -DephtCore -TheOneWhoKillsEveryoneInAllTownsAfterTheyArentUsefullAnymore
@@EdenTGG it's not mandatory to kill him in order finish the main quest. The quest continues but a new side quest starts when you kill him. They make you believe you HAVE to but you actually have a choice.
Spoilers for Nier Automata: I think fighting 21O as 9S was even more heartbreaking. The operators are so cute and pure, I’m just forever grateful we didn’t have to do the same thing with 6O 😭 Also fighting 9S as A2 and vice versa
Honestly the saddest part in the game (in my opinion) is finding out that Paula and devoula were the only kind to their android models never scraped but lied to and stuff and they also were the ones responsible for humanitys extinction they tried to make up for it but they end up dieing.(obviously I dident tell their full backstory)
Yeah, although if the stars align (translation: if you do certain quests) you can talk to her at the bunker during it's final moments. Never done it myself, but I have seen it. Edit: Talking about 6O btw
Oh yes... All of them are so bad because you spend so much time getting attached to your partner and getting into the story. For me the worst for heartbreaking moments is Explorers of Darkness/Time/Sky. Dusknoir's battle near the end of the game gets me every time with Grovyle's sacrifice. I spent months IRL having him in my party and beating dungeons with him. And as if that wasn't bad enough, go through the final dungeon and after beating the storyline you're rewarded with another tear-jerking cutscene where after your character disappears the games goes on to tell you of the aftermath with your partner making sure you aren't forgotten.
What about Big Smoke from San Andreas? It was devastating. CJ knew the guy his whole life. But he had to kill him because he was responsible for his Mom’s death.
@ZMan1471 Because Ryder wasn't originally supposed to be one of the antagonists. There is plethora of content on this, but well, both of them feel sad to me when we have that information.
I think people are overlooking a very sad, although often very seldom seen fight from Undertale that I consider the saddest. Second Neutral run, King Asgore, killed Flowey the first time. Flowey kills Asgore in the original neutral run and if you kill him he doesn't appear like he usually does in the second neutral run. This leads you to believe that if you fight Asgore again you will be able to spare him and Flowey won't be there to kill him. Thing is Flowey WAS still there, but being a being that can remember anything other than a true reset he changed his actions so he never interacted with you. But what is so heart breaking about Asgore's second fight is that even though he could... Flowey doesn't kill Asgore and destroy his soul the second time around. Instead you get to see just how broken Asgore is. He gets to the part about adopting you and taking care of you, being a family again with Toriel as your mother... but then stops himself, and says no he can't do that... because he can't live with what hes done. He believes so firmly that he doesn't deserve happiness that he commits suicide right in front of you because of his guilt for killing the other 6 human children that fell, because of how much pain he felt from the loss of Asriel and Chara, and then his wife abandoning him when he was going through so much pain and grief. You see Asgore laid completely bare, broken and miserable. Unable to believe he deserved any other outcome than his own death a repentance and relief from his burdens and pain. Psychological speaking that specific instance is most bewildering moment in the game. The only other one coming close is Sans when you realize he is suffering from depression the entire time hes fighting you, That him a nihilist who from all in-game lore points towards him being depressed is still giving his damnedest to try and stop you. After all the lore states that the stats of a monster are determined mainly by their emotions. Atk - Determined by a monsters desire to inflict harm upon the one they are attacking, def - determined by a monsters desire not to be harmed, hp - determined by a monsters desire to live... Sans has 1 in each stat. He does not want to hurt you, he wants to be harmed, he wants to die.
@@NoahofWill How she managed to take the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller and how she knew the Greybeards would send you there. She never mentions any old Blades lore detailing what the Greybeards would have the Dragonborn do, go or retrieve. From the get-go she's just an unlikable character.
The fight with Roxas is more emotional if you play 358 days y'know. Watching Roxas grow and lose everything because he doesnt understand why things cant just be like they were
The Roxas fight hurts even more, if you played KH 358/2 days, because you play as Roxas the entire game. And the plot is rather good, despite the bad gameplay. It sets him up as quite a tragic fight :(
You think Sora's fight against Roxas is bad? You clearly haven't played 358/2 days, where Roxas has to fight Xion, who was his friend until DiZ manipulated her into not seeing any value in her own life outside being absorbed by Sora, and I still haven't forgiven him for it.
I came here to say this! Not only does he end up killing his friend is that he's faced with the knowledge that he will start to forget about her existence and there's no one else left to remember her.
The final boss of arc 1 of Wizard101, Malistaire. True, he is completely insane and is attempting to awaken the Dragon Titan, a threat to the entire Spiral (the in-game universe) during your boss fight with him, but he’s only doing it to bring his dead wife back to life. Not only that, but when you finally defeat him, his final, dying words broke my heart as he moans about how he failed his wife, and how he had done so much to return her to life.
@@Yora21 true, but its still sad, as an ex soldier myself I found that a lot if people thinks that we are emotionless, but is hard to complete your "job" when you feel sad, so what most of us is just lock away the feelings and throw away the key, but even then they never fade away
Honestly the only boss that ever made me sad for killing them was Sif from Dark Souls. Because later you learn that she only had to fight you so that you would not suffer the same agonizing fate her master did many years ago. Also Artorias. (Once you learn his backstory)
Almost every boss from Ori and the Will of the Wisps... Kowlok is a good example... heck I even got emotional from Shriek who did *insert MAJOR spoiler here* and the ending after, I cried so hard
Oh you think Roxas is sad play birth by sleep you will cry at the ending also spoilers Terra that lovable idiot gets possessed by an old dude Aqua best female character gets stuck in the realm of darkness for a decade Ventus who looks like Roxas gets put in a coma to save his friends Terra and Aqua
Roxas and Xion fully developed together, helping each other through weakness and comas. They then learn they have to kill each other, and deal with it in different ways. Xion then claims to want to kill Roxas, so we have to fight her when she seems to have lost her mind, only to learn she couldn’t bear to kill us or let Sora sleep, so she used us as her means of self sacrifice.
here's the difference: wayfinder friendship- told seasalt friendship- shown *and* told believable stories either show but don't tell, or both show and tell.
Okay, bringing back the memories of my Undertale Genocide actions. Man I keep avoiding to kill him but I have get that ending.( Still haven’t finished it! )
I have 3 siblings that also played skyrim. once the 'option' of murdering chill grandpa dragon, was given we all tried to murder the blades. Burning em, shouting off mountains, setting their mini army on em, and turning them in to porqupines
10:46 Honestly I believe Papyrus is actually VERY strong. Undyne, a very powerful fighter herself, refers to him as "Pretty freaking tough!" Further, no matter what, he will always leave you with 1 hp. Not even Toriel (A member of the Boss Monster race, implying great power) is able to pull that off. While I don't have the source, I believe it's also implied that he can use the Gaster Blasters like his brother as well, he just wont because he doesn't want to hurt you. If anything, I would say he's at least close to his brother in strength, if not far stronger due to the fact that he trains constantly.
It's all valid points up until the end, since Sans says he's completely harmless even if he tried to hurt someone, meaning in the eyes of someone holding as much power as Sans, he's not very tough
The most heartbreaking fight in NieR:Automata is the secret desert battle, especially if you've played the first NieR. "Even if it's pointless, you still have to do it!"
@@Raximus3000 just I always found roxas saying goodbye to his best friend sad af. And then axel, who shouldn't be able to cry, she'd a tear when saying goodbye to his best friend
As a Kingdom Hearts fan, although Roxas does come back in later games, the Roxas fight in KH2 and The Xion Fight in 382/5 Days are two of the most heartbreaking boss fights in the franchise. Trust me, although Days Mechanics were... something, I would call Days the most depressing game in the franchise, along with the ending of KH3 because of it being bittersweet.
WisperingPath 5 months too late. But same man. Never played or read books of KH and yet that was the one entry on the list that me cry. Now I’m considering playing these.
Zero vs Iris was pretty sad. I also felt pretty sad with Dante vs Virgil in DMC1 and DMC3. Losing the twin brother you grew up with is heart breaking. Good thing Virgil's popularity brings him back in the games that came afterwards.
Nah. I killed him once to see if there were any changes in the game besides obviously the dragon being dead and the greybeards refusing to talk to you. There was none, thus, no guilt in killing that one
Paarthurnax is a totally optional fight if you just ignore the Blades(after the story is finished I just disappears) HOWEVER this means that one of you had to purposely kill Paarthurnax for this footage; WHO DID IT
Simone fight was beautiful and sad, but the end of the game is where it really hits you in the feels. Fights with 9S' Operator, A2, and rampant Emil... damn, if someone tried to kill you with a plastic spoon it won't be so painful.
Roxas, what about the Xion battle at the end of 358/2 Days?! That was even worse then the Roxas fight. Also, that fight with Roxas was added in Final Mix, whereas in the original it is just the cutscene.
Tales of Symphonia, when you have to fight a giant plant-monster and you halfway through the fight find out it's the sweet old lady you found captured earlier in the game that has been turned. And she begs you to kill her... 😭😭😭😭
The Kingdom hearts one is very true because my first ever kingdom hearts experience was 358 and when I played that with my prior knowledge of Roxas I had been crying
I know I'm late, but... 1. Mother 1. You remember Gyiyg from Mother 2 don't you? Everyone who's heard of Mother has. He didn't used to be the shapeless deadlights that he is in the sequel though: he was originally a slim, tailed silver alien creature, vaguely shaped like an anthropomorphised sperm cell. (Remember what his Mother 2 fight was influenced by?) You go nearly the whole game without seeing him. It's just you, your friends, mind controlled people & wildlife, and Gyiyg's race in their Starman power armour/drones subtly invading earth and causing the dead to rise from their graves. You find the mysterious world of Magicant (much better than the vegetable filled wasteland that it is in Mother 2, unless you count the sea of Eden) and meet its ruler, Queen Marii. You learn she is troubled with nightmares where she appears to be chastising a kid, then cries out, tries to sing a song but only remembers one part before waking up traumatised. You decide to recover the eight fragments of her song for her. Seven if playing the _original_ original cartridge or ROM, Japanese language only as translation/restoration patches are not compatible. Then she remembers the eighth on her own. Right near the end when you play them all for her, they make the better, original eight melodies. Then she remembers not just the song, but who she really is: your great grandmother Maria, wife of George from Mother's Day (your hometown). She and George had been taken by a powerful psychic alien species to take care of one of their younglings, as an experiment to see if humans would care for a completely alien animal as one of their own. This baby alien was named Gyiyg. It can only be assumed that his alternate name of Giygas was a pet name Maria made up for him. Gyiyg's species can sense emotions more strongly than other species, due to their psychokinetic nature, Too much strong emotion at once causes sensory overload and hurts them, which is why Gyiyg has the weakness he does. Maria's lullaby to him has so much love, that he goes quiet and has to concentrate hard or else endure physical pain. George later steals the secrets of PK for research, which Gyiyg's species fear could be exploited by the rest of humanity to wage war on them. When Gyiyg matures, he is tasked to prevent humanity from gaining or using these powers, even if it means abduction and/or genocide. Gyiyg doesn't want to do it but feels he has to. Maria tries to stop him and possibly tries her lullaby again, except he freaked out from sensory overload and accidentally injures Maria with a psychic attack. Horrified, he puts her in stasis both to prevent her stopping him and give her time to heal. After you recover her song, she dies, hoping to meet George in heaven. Magicant was just an illusion born from her mind. Gyiyg quickly learns that his adoptive mother is dead and he is _FUCKING PISSED._ Now there is no reason to stay his hand from slaughtering all human life, starting with you as revenge for you indirectly killing his mother. He tells you the abridged version of his life story in between attacks either PK or not that you can't grasp the true form of. He offers to spare you but you refuse, so he says you can perish with the rest of humankind. While it does nothing, you can even use the megaphone on him, where your party member using it yells "You're a disgrace to your mom!". At this point you have to sing his and Maria's lullaby, hoping to hurt him enough to break his concentration enough to prevent him fighting. He keeps cutting you off and telling you to stop before you are able to sing the full song, badly injuring him and he literally runs away crying, screaming how he will return to kill you all. By Mother 2, it's clear that Maria's death and the salt you rubbed in by singing her song to him mere minutes after she died causes him to have such a strong mental breakdown it becomes a physical one, crushing his body to a singularity and leaving him formless and insane. It's so bad that he has to keep _his mind on life support._ That is what the Devil's Machine was for; it's the equivalent of Ford Cruller in Psychonauts needing to be near a large dosage of Psitanium, only with much more dire consequences if/when it is turned off. Makes his second boss fight where all you can ultimately end up doing is praying for help a lot worse when you realise it's just as horrifying for him too. 2. Deus Ex. Partway through the game, you have to betray UNATCO because they end up being corrupt, not that many of the employees know that. In escaping, you need to kill Anna Navarre. Gunther Hermann, her partner is very upset by this and stalks you for a good portion of the game. Eventually, you go to a cathedral in Paris. Paris beforehand was already dim and dark with sad, depressing music and empty streets, save for cops, MJ12 troops and their robots. The cathedral has a different sad piece of music and it isn't helped by a merc's diary you find, saying that Gunther can be heard crying for Anna at night, waiting coldly for JC to arrive. When you fight him, he has a flamethrower and pulls no punches. All this partially on orders from Walton Simons but he wants to be the one to kill you as it's personal. You can even deny him a fight if you use his kill-switch. 3. Halo 3 343 Guilty Spark realises the error of his ways from Halo 1 and joins you in stopping what's left of the covenant. When it comes to stop the flood for good as well, you learn you can fire Installation 04's replacement while it's still at the Ark, and out of range of any planets with life on them. He is overjoyed to help here too. When it comes to actually firing it, you learn that the ring isn't yet fully ready and firing it now will destroy it and damage part of the Ark. You have no choice though and need to fire it now. Spark then snaps and goes back to his old ways for no reason at all, despite the fact the ARK could just repair the ring and itself, and attacks you directly, leading to the easiest and most egregious final boss fight since the Pfhor Cyborg in the original Marathon, or the elder God avatar in Pathways into Darkness once you beat the waves of monsters it sends at you. You'd think he'd stay good and serve as a link between humans, Forerunners and the Sangheli who worshipped them but _nooooo._ Bungie decided that since they missed giving us real boss fights in Halo 3 against Truth and the Gravemind, they'd just let people kill the monitor instead and call it a day. Then there's the better "boss": the timed warthog run along the ring's scaffolding as halo shakes itself to pieces charging up its neutrino pulse. You are scared of not making it, and it is a timed run as the whole scaffold is breaking apart behind you. Then you worry that you won't make it home before the pulse hits you. You do make through the portal...barely. The arbiter actually gets home and you are stranded in deep space. So you put yourself in cryosleep while you wait for help. As the Legendary difficulty exclusive extra epilogue shows, 4 years later and 5 years in real life, cue Halo 4. 4. Beta Mark II in Sonic Adventure. E102 Gamma goes through hell in his story in Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast (1998 version) When he succeeds in recovering Kaeru/Frog-kun AKA Froggy while his brother robots fail, the latter end up being teleported away to remote locations, while zeta and beta are are rebuilt painfully into new robot models, respectively the NME from Rise of the Triad using scavenged Dreamcast consoles and Beta Mark II. Gamma then tries to get Lily the Flicky from Amy on Eggman's orders, but Lily stares into his eyes and seems to be pleading with him for something, making him release them, telling them to hurry and escape. Then when Lily's chaos emerald is taken, Gamma gets his ass kicked by Sonic, only surviving as Amy makes Sonic stop.Encouraged by Amy telling him not to be on Eggman's side, Gamma goes rampant, hunts down and kills every last E 100 seines robot, calling it "saving his comrades". (He is saving the animals inside them) When only Beta is left, he scans for the remaining units and realises _he himself_ counts. This means to complete his mission, he has to die. Beta Mark 2 then shows up and you fight him. The boss isn't too depressing unless you remember that you can't die yet or else Gamma will fail his mission as Beta will get away Scott free. When you beat him, Beta shoots you point blank with duel rocket launchers, mortally wounding Gamma. One of Lily's siblings that she and Amy are looking for is released from Beta. Gamma drags himself as far as he can before he sees Lily and her sibling's picture from her pendant and succumbs to his injuries, exploding in a huge fireball and releasing Lily's other sibling. And Amy never gets to meet him again. It's worse in the Sonic X adaption of SA1: the other E 100 series not only scream in pain as they teleport but they except Beta (and possibly Zeta) get destroyed as well, making Gamma finishing them off more of a mercy kill. When Lily pleads with him, you can hear her desperate cries as she tries to make her sibling inside Gamma's "battery compartment" hear her. The look on her face doesn't help either. As he mercy kills the other robots, Gamma extracts their AI programs first so it's clear he is still saving them as well as the animals, which the game doesn't show. He also is seen carving Eggman's face into a rock wall and then annihilating it out of spite for the doctor. During his fight against Beta Mark 2, he tries to make him see reason and join his side, but Beta is unable to comply as Gamma deleted Eggman's master status while Beta did not, designating Gamma as a hostile. This time, Amy arrives just in time to see them kill each other. When the flickies are reunited, Amy cries over Gamma's corpse, thanking him for saving them. You even see his and Beta's hands touching, symbolising that they are now together in death.
I agree! Gyiyg/Giegue/Giygas' should be here, especially the Mother 1 fight where he breaks down after the party sings. Same with Earthbound's, where his mutters in the battle are just so heartbreaking. but mother 3.
