Oh god that is the worst thing ever! Happened to me while I was doing the Dustia trick for experience in Final Fantasy 12 several years ago. I had just gotten back to the safe area, levelled up all the way to level 50 something and sold all my loot worth several thousand gil. I am LITERALLY touching the save crystal and the "save game" option pops up when the screen goes dark. I think i sat there in uncomprehending silence for several seconds before I screamed out of frustration.
not really a "you haven't saved in a while" bit for me... but damn god it happened to me when i was still stuck on Sephirot in KH2... i had tried like 50 times at that point, i was about to strike the final blow... and literally when the Keyblade was about to strike him and take away that last bit of health the power goes out... biggest rage moment in my gaming history
This why I ALWAYS shut down my PS4 whenever I hear the mere HINT of a thunderstorm approaching. If I don't, a lightning strike a few miles away will cut my power which will knock my PS4 out for *_hours_* . Which leaves me worried about my console the way a loved one worries about a family member battling an illness in a hospital.
Happened to me whilst playing Yakuza kiwami... I had made good progress at the end of the game. Climbed up the ranks in a racing mini game, played a skimpy card game w/ insect women, won a few rounds of darts and in between it all majima's glorious self would fight me and offer loads of exp. and I maxed out my abilities. Mind you this was 2-3 hours of general progression before I went to go fight a big baddie. Then it happens. My PS4 was plugged up to what was essentially a big 🔋 that protects it in the event of storm power surges (and also powers it) and my little brother comes by and flicks the power switch and the screen goes off. I then got mad, yelled and went to my room... Amd haven't played kiwami since. Thank you for coming to my long texted TED talk.
Happened to me at the end of resident evil 2 remake. Had to start from the beginning because I was too cocky and thought "oh, I don't need multiple saves! I've done the original so many times before" BIG mistake!
How about the reverse? You use that expensive/rare item/buff and flub it and waste it thus cant use it again. (Ie. Souls game and the elemental paper/rub)
I kinda did this with Lightning Returns’ final boss. Boy, did I made the biggest mistake ever. All I needed was some potions to refill my gauge and slow down time to stack up that stagger.
This. Especially when it comes down to the wire, you have like 1 HP left, but you finally deal that last blow...! ...then the boss pulls a last resort "screw you" move, and your heart feels like it exploded into a gazillion tiny shards...
What about the "LoL! You thought I had two phases? Poor fool, I HAVE THREE!" And then they turn into demi-gods and you have 3 HP and zero healing stuff...
Or the boss, that pulls the shady move of self-healing, that activates when you basically have him dead already. And you are out of stamina or magic or your best ammo and you realize that you now have to take of half his health again, but with much worse weapons/powers.
Fact: it is actually a legal requirement in Britain, that whenever Rob does a video with the word "boss" in it, he has to explain Final Fantasy for half of said video.
I submit to you that the most heartbreaking way to lose a boss fight is the double-down. When you manage to strike the deathblow on a boss at the exact moment it hits a killing blow on you; forcing you to reload a save and do the battle again.
Bruce McLavy Happened to me with Rom in Bloodborne, one of the spider mobs hit me just as I finished it off but thankfully the game counted me killing Rom and I didn't need to do it again xD
@@roachxyz That exact same thing happened to me in Lost Planet. After many hours of trying I finally had beaten a gargantuan alien when I let go the controller to celebrate just to watch how its frozen carcass obliterated my idle character. Heartbreaking, truly heartbreaking. D:
That happened to me in Witcher 2. I killed the boss, the cutscene of Geralt killing him started but he managed to hit me right before I dealt the killing blow. His sword was poisoned so I started taking poison damage right before the cutscene started. Anyway, the cutscene of Geralt killing the final boss gets interrupted by a game over screen and I have to reload...
Here’s another heartbreak: in JRPG turn base games when you are poisoned/burnt and you defeat the boss, but then because it is the end of the turn your last remaining HP is taken away. You died so you lose, even though you won. Urgh!!! That has happened to me way to many times 😫
By the time i beat the Valkyrie Queen 7 hours had gone by without me realizing it. All i can remember is the smouldering rage i felt every time she knocked my head on the ground at the start of each fight.
Lmao the no pause in bloodborne, That’s scary how accurate that was! I was in the middle of a boss fight and I had to let my brother in from school, and he’s spamming the doorbell and the dog is going nuts, and i couldn’t just let him sit there for for like the next 10 mins so.... I got up with my controller in hand and just mashed the dodge button, luckily I was facing probably the least aggressive boss, The witch of hemwick, and I run all the way down the stairs quickly unlock the door sprint all the way back up still mashing the dodge button and I somehow survived! And I ended up beating the boss it’s one of the easier ones if you know how it works and it was my second playthrough so yeah... that was very accurate lol :D
When I have to do something and I cant pause I always just toss myself off the nearest surface to try to make myself laugh. Something about doing it to myself and not trying to fight it makes me feel better
I had a similar problem in Turok Evolution, minus the not saving part since the game autosaves after finnishing a level. When I was playing through the levels in the suspended city, I encountered a boss; a styracosaurus with a pair of machine guns mounted to its sides. The thing is, I had no idea it was a boss until I found out that it will get up after you'll "kill" it several times, which occurred after it dropped to the ground and I saw it get back up (I though a second one was spawned in at first when it flung me across the arena because I payed no attention to it after seeing it start the falling animation because there were other enemies that needed to be taken care of). So not only was it a surprise boss, but it was also one with multiple stages and required me to use the heaviest weapons in my arsenal to the point of nearly running out of ammo for said weapons.
@@adrianposkonka8331 Parasite Eve has a point where you haven't been able to save for a long while before a save point ("Are you really reeeeally sure you don't want to save???"). You're probably low on health and ammo and then you get immediately thrown into a huge battle. Then it doesn't matter even if you reload you'll never have enough health or ammo to get past that battle. *Sigh
When you replay a game, same difficulty level and everything and somehow, a boss you defeat with your eyes closed, now kills you so easily you begin to doubt your own memory
Ruby weapon in ff7 is a let down, if you somehow defeat him your reward Is not worth it, a golden rose that you can trade for a depressed golden chocobo that moves so slowly😞
The pain you feel when you’re in a boss fight you can’t pause it (this really similar to number 7 ) and you’re called down for dinner or when you kill the boss with your hardest attack killing him but he comes alive again and you stand there like ‘how dare you still live’
When I was fighting the Adamantoise in FFXV I was so close, I’d been fighting for what felt like days but I had to go check on something so I paused it, however it turned out I hadn’t actually hit the button so when I got back I was treated to a lovely game over screen
When going into the Darkeater Midir fight in Dark souls 3: The Ringed City dlc thinking you're sufficiently leveled and prepared but then discovering you underestimated how large his health pool was. Then watching your all your estes flasks gradually getting used up and you've been battling him for what seems like 20 mins and you have about a quarter of his health to go with no way to heal lol
I swear to god, Bed Of Chaos killed me while I was attacking her weak spot. I was just about to swing on her and end the fight in 3 hits, and then I got instakilled by flame pillars and had to restart the fight. I got back up and pwned her after that but man I was in complete disbelief when that happened.
Number 1 "getting greedy" Yeah, I did that against detlaff... Stage 3.... Him having less than 0 health left. Yeah I didnt play The Witcher 3, for a while after that.
I remember seeing a clip of a guy fighting the Guardian Ape in Sekiro, and you can tell he had some trouble with him, because in the last phase je got the deathblow to end the fight, and he started jumping around the room excitedly. Thing is, boss fights in Sekiro have TWO final deathblows to end boss fights, and he only did the first, so while he was jumping around with deserved, albeit premature excitement, the Ape wasn't actually dead, thus he recovered and killed the player before he knew what was happening. I felt so sorry for the guy. His excitement got the better of him.
Rob is definitely the king of entertainment on RU-vid, can't wait until exams are over, want to play Death Stranding and watch all the Friday features again.
Making a refrence outside the PlayStation library always seemed taboo to me. So many great Friday features that could have had so many other great games referenced. I was flabbergasted at hearing a World of Warcraft refrence.
@@lylearoyii Well, to be honest, the Leeroy Jenkins thing has reached full memehood a long time ago so does it really count as a world of warcraft reference anymore?:P
Another one is accidentally forgetting to equip the right weapons/armor because you had on something else while grinding out either materials for crafting (aka having a fishing pole equipped instead of your weapon) or grinding xp and the area you were in uses something that wouldn't help you against the boss
One of my friends back in high school beat those Weapons. The Ruby & Emerald. I had to watch it. Forever. If I recall, Emerald took around 20 Knights of the Round, some Bahamut Zeroes, & a couple others like Neo-Bahamut. It was pretty insane
_Dark Souls 3_ - On my 27th attempt, I was nearly finished Sister Friede's *third* stage when the washer went violently off balance in the laundry room... Yeah, pretty sure only dog's could hear the sound I made :P
The first one happened to me with Sigrun on god of war !. Got carried away while i was on a roll. We ended up hitting each other at the same time for the last spec of health each. I could see it say press R3 to rip her wings off and finish her off. But she had killed me too. I might have actually cried
Maybe this falls into the "failing the easy bit" category, but three times during my Sekiro playthrough I got so excited to deplete the health bar of one of the many bosses I had been stuck on that I forgot to press the final QTE to perform the finishing deathblow. They get right back up after a few moments and keep fighting while you are unprepared to block.
Old school RPGs when you input all your team commands and then you and the enemy take turns based on some sort of speed/agility/dex stat. Once you know the sequence you base your strat around the order of everyone's turn, but then the boss "cheats" and goes early throwing off your carefully planned sequence of commands. The critical "heal everybody right before the boss takes it's turn" now happens after the bosses turn in which they kill most, if not all, of your team and the giant heal is wasted or doesn't happen at all.
Ahh I Had most of these playing monster hunter world with the nergigante, close to killing it about 20-30 times, I got absolutely obliterated every attempt
A bit of a late reply, but here’s one: this was about last year, and I was playing BO3 Zombies at a friends house, Der Esiendrach, it was our 3rd, maybe 4th attempt and we had just arrived at the Corrupted Keeper boss. My friend had the storm bow and a pack a punched Dingo with Blast Furnace, while I had the Packa-punched Haymaker, with blast furnace as well, and a pack a punched ray gun. We decided that he was going to focus on the keeper while I tried to handle the spawning Zombies and panzer soldats. The second the fight started and he shot an arrow, it froze. The arrow was stuck in mid-air. Then it booted us back to the menu screen. The servers had disconnected and all our progress was lost. Now, when it comes to COD Zombies, me and my mates usually just see how long we can last, we even turn off the audio and just listen to music. This was the first time we actually tried to to the main Easter egg, and, my Lord, were we pissed at what happened. We just gave up after that, and played Killing floor 2 instead.
When you DO pause successfully before going to do x, but your BLOODY cat/dog/marmoset/badger-puppet manages to step on your controller in JUST such a way to unpause it again while you’re away.
i have definitly experianced the first one rob in dark souls many many times through out the years, and i loved that estus flask bit with i don't kno if that dave or nath
Since it is the legendary spooktober, I’ve decided to compile a list of video games moments that had me checking my underwear: 1: The Genocide Ending / RefuseTo Destroy The World option - Undertale 2: Tidal Wave Boss - Transformers Armada 3: Giratina Appears - Pokemon Platinum (I know it isn’t PlayStation) 4: Scissorman Approaching - Clock Tower 5: The ending FMV/Squall on LSD - Final Fantasy 8 6: The Flood Appear - Halo CE (Another non PlayStation choice I have sinned) 7: Everything in DDLC - DDLC (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON’T PLAY IT)
I thought with Emerald Weapon in the thumbnail and Rob saying about mismanaging the materia, it was going to be about not having the underwater materia and doing really well on the boss but then losing because of the (holding your breath) time limit
When the boss reapplies some kind of temporary buff that forces you on the defensive when they were one hit away from dead and you just can’t get that last hit. Vergil 3 from DMC3 did that to me many times when I first played.
