7 Movies The DCU Should Include 

An animated Jimmy Olsen anthology series where crazy situations just happen to him and Superman every episode like the classic Jimmy Olsen comics would be amazing.

My thought for Martian Manhunter is to set it in the fifties, and do a mashup of Red Scare sci-fi and detective noir. He's a cop on the tail of communist agents who are replacing or corrupting important people, only they turn out to be actual alien infiltrators rather than Russians. Probably White Martians so they can shapeshift and mind-control and so on. WandaVision or Werewolf By Night style, everything's in black and white except for J'onn's Martian form and maybe his eyes when he uses his powers. EDIT: Wow, 200 likes? Call me, James Gunn, let's talk.

Jimmy Olsen would be interesting. There’s a great moment in the Earth 1 superman books where an alien super warrior is flying right at him but Jimmy doesn’t even flinch, he just gets on one knee and ready his camera, waiting for the villain to get close enough for the shot to be best. And this villain gets within a foot of Jimmy, swinging his weapon before Superman comes swooping in to tackle the villain. Jimmy doesn’t move or finch, he just looks at the screen of his camera and goes “yep, got the shot”.

I want a Question movie/show or, at the very least, for him to appear in Lanterns.

I know we got him in Black Adam but I wanna see a solo Doctor Fate movie, so many possibilities with him… and I’m so stoked for a Booster Good TV show!

I always loved how Martian Manhunter's weakness is being lit on fire. You know... like everyone.

Fun fact, in the recent Swamp Thing series that was immediately canceled, that blond guy from the original 90210 and Sharknado was setup as the Blue Devil. In his final appearance, he was allowed to leave the swamp town that he had been trapped in, presumably to go solve mysteries in more rural towns. Mostly farm country. The title of the spinoff show was then going to be called Blue Harvest, which was of course the original title of some space movie from the 70s.

I think J'onn has a pretty good chance of showing up in Lanterns. Imagine two or three different characters that Jordan and Stewart meet as they uncover the series' mystery who end up helping them out, and it turns out they're all just Manhunter shapeshifted into different people and trying to keep his identity secret.

King Shark solo film. There's no story, it's just 180 minutes of King Shark swimming around and hanging with the Squad. There's no villain, nothing substantial happens, it's just King Shark having fun

I think Batman stories are still viable. I would love an on screen version of Knightfall where Azrael takes the cape and goes crazy doing so after Batman’s back is broken. One of my favorite comics of all time and it doubles as a great Tim Drake narrative as well.

For the Robin movie where Batman is out of town, I just picture Robin sliding across hardwood floors to Bob seger's Old Time Rock and Roll

Jimmy Olsen also has plenty of great supporting characters and villains! my personal favorite is Darkseid, who first appeared in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #134!

I would love a gonzo documentary mini series MC'ed by Jimmy Olsen. It could be a tongue in cheek with easy to digest origins of any oddball characters that James Gun introduces.

I would love to see the Question in a movie, done right. He's so awesome and you can pack it filled with B-list characters who deserve the spotlight.

There was also a 2010 tv series of Human Target with Mark Valley that’s really good, it also has Jackie Earl Haley aka Rorschach.

Does anyone remember the Human Target with Mark Valley, Chi McBride, and Jackie Earle Haley? I really like that show and had no idea it was a DC tie-in. Also, Idris Elba was one of the recurring villains and was great.

I love most of these suggestions. Generally speaking, I for one, would've had the shows 'mirror' the cinematic releases in a way, i.e: Superman film - Supergirl show Batman film - Nightwing show Wonder Woman film - Paradise Lost show (setting up Nubia, Circe etc.) Blue Beetle film - Booster Gold show (they might be aiming to do that anyway) Swamp Thing film (with a Constantine cameo?) - Deadman show (with a Zatanna cameo?) Doctor Fate film - Mr Terrific show (laying the groundwork for a JSA iteration) Green Arrow/Black Canary film - Huntress show (with a hint at Batgirl) Furthermore, throw in a Static movie for the fun DC Spidey vibe, a Plastic Man animated show, obviously keep the exciting Lanterns pitch and conclude that first phase with a World's Finest film, taking their time and propery building up those character dynamics.

I'd love them to do a great Justice League Dark; we're well overdue a Zatanna on the big screen, and characters like Constantine are epic when used right. Maybe in Chapter 2 if they start bringing in more magic. They could even have Wonder Woman lead the team like in the recent runs a few years back. Oh and get Edgar Wright to do a Constantine movie please

I wanted a Nightwing movie for ages, since we are already getting a Damian Robin they could make a team up movie for Damian and Dick something like that that Batman and Robin run.

Since WB is going to adapt The Authority for the big screen, I'd love for them to do Planetary and a Storm Watch prequel as well.

Yes. We need more of the crazy characters and stories. I’ve been thinking for ages that a Martian Manhunter detective story would be so good. He has all these insane powers so he could solve any mystery or crime pretty easily, but also he can’t use his powers to obtain evidence because that evidence would not be inadmissible in court. Also it should be set in 50s or 70s, because they should keep Martian Manhunter’s original origin. He’s accidentally teleported from Mars to Earth in the 1950s and can’t get back for whatever reason so has been hiding on earth the entire time. Also by the time he eventually is able to get back Mars has been destroyed.

I love these ideas, it's good to see James Gunn interested in different new directions for DC rather than just another wonder woman movie and staying safe with characters that have already been established in the DC universe.

I really want a Question limited series where the Question investigates Waller and Taskforce X. Maybe include Huntress for JLU fans, a dash of Batman possibly, but I think it would stand perfectly with just The Question and Waller appearing even. Kinda like DC's Netflix Daredevil?

It’s cool to see someone else acknowledging the new 52 run of Animal Man. When I read it, I loved it because it was unique and weird in a great way.

I'm so glad James mentioned Grant Morrison's JLA. I feel like Morrison's run on that series would be a great backbone for a cinematic universe, from New World Order to World War III.

I love the idea of Animal Man but make it a series. The twists and changes fit much better in that structure to allow people to get to know the characters.

I really would love to see a The Question movie or series. Either a Rene Montoya or the JLA version. I think it has great potential as a character

I think it's a bit too early since they're doing a soft reboot of the universe, but I'd love to see them eventually lead up to a Justice League Tower of Babel storyline or a Justice League story inspired by it.

I think you had some interesting ideas for possible DCU movies/shows. I think Animal Man and Jimmy Olsen have the most potential, especially if the Jimmy Olsen one were to lean into the weird 60s comics he was in.

My cousin recently got into Animal Man, been checking out the Grant Morrison run and telling me about his 90s run. So when I saw Mr Sunday Movies brought up Animal Man from the get-go, I pulled that Leonardo pointing meme.

While i like the Dracula vs Batman i think the cool thing about that concept is the weight and power that Dracula has vs a human at peak capacity and can we win against that even at our strongest and smartest? Also if we're gonna do Vampire Batman i prefer to do it alongside Mexican Zod Superman and Apokolips Wonder Woman.

I feel like we haven’t had proper contemporary live poison ivy film. It could have some sort of bioterrorism spin with the new bat family coming into the foray. It would make sense for her to cameo in the swamp thing film which could then lead into the independent ivy property. This movie also come after the bat family film. Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn could cameo in the film and help the bat family take on Ivy (sort of like what they did in Gunn’s Harley show). They would have opportunity to set up the Harlivy film down the line. It could be awesome

Yes! The Human Target by Tom King & Greg Smallwood deserves an adaptation BUT I think it would work best as an Elseworlds HBO Max series.

Can you imagine how enraged the woeful side of twitter would get if they found out that the villains in the Jutice League were called the "White Martians"?

Those last three picks are inspired and could totally work well together. I can imagine a team up movie opening with Jimmy Olsen, happy go lucky walking into work, waving at cameos. A big Superman story starts to break on TV and Jimmy goes to run out the door, only for Lois to stop him and say that, since he was the last person in today, he has to cover this company dumping toxic waste into the water instead. Big bummer. So the movie progresses to have Jimmy investigating the place which eventually causes him to cross paths with a detective doing the same thing. Said Detective coerced Jimmy into helping him collect information since it seems to be easier for a person from the media to gain access to the building. They find a lead that takes them how dark alley at night, waiting to witness a shipment deal going down. It starts, it's going well, Jimmy tries to go in for a closer shot with his camera but the flash ruins everything! A chase ensues. The detective and Jimmy eventually catch up yo the main guy, but, wait! They have instead captured master of disguise, the Human Target. After witnessing these awesome shape shifting powers, the Detective worries this guy might be a Martian and he asks Jimmy if he has a light. The Human Target explains that he is just a regular man. Jimmy asks why he would want to protect the toxic waste family, but the Human Target had no idea and agrees to help them gain access to the facilities when he meets the management to collect his pay. Jimmy and the Detective have a nice character moment at a bar. The next day, they go to meet the Human Target at the place. The detective knocks out the person who was paying the Human Target, and they poke around the office a bit before finding a switch to a secret laid. Down in the lair, the realize that the toxic waste was a by-product for manufacturing Blue Kryptonite, an operation that is called Blue Harvest, an in universe reference to the name used during the production of Star Wars, the White Martians' favorite movie as it treats aliens with respect. Jimmy, the Detective who is secretly Martian Manhunter, and the Human Target fight and defeat the White Martians, leading to Jimmy getting a big work party for his wonderful investigative journalism. His cake reads, Well done, Jimmy"

What about White House Down or Minority Report, those are both in D.C. Continuity.

With the Justice League movie, I think that Gunn is going to go for a Kingdom Come esque story with the Authority being the new crop of superheroes. Gunn described the Authority as a harsher brand of justice, have these superheroes go to far and the Justice League has to form to stop them. It also makes sense about the name of the Chapter Gods and Monsters, having the Justice League being perceived as Gods and the Authority being perceived as Monsters but the line between them is a lot more gray. Also just like you said with JLA: New World Order it would show exactly why every member is on the Justice League.

I think it needs: Kingdom Come, Bat family, Green Arrow and Black Canary, Shazam! Rise of Black Adam, Blackest Night, Justice League the Darkseid War.

Imagine getting a Jimmy Olson movie set during some huge event like a Darkseid invasion or something. But the whole thing is from Jimmy's perspective trying not to die while documenting all these super beings going sick house on eachother and Metropolis. Maybe done in like a found footage blair witch/Cloverfield kinda thing.

Recreate the "Knight Time" episode of Batman where Bruce Wayne is missing, and Superman dresses up as Batman. Even as some kind of one off film, it would allow for the studio to test a lot of characters/actors on a massive scale as Superman is literally going through Batman's rogues gallery along with Robin asking, "what do you know about Bruce Wayne's disappearance". Fans will definitely voice their opinions on actors they did and didn't like portraying characters or even if they should continue that universe. Still would love to see Henry Cavill as Superman/Batman in this.

Would love a Batman: No Man's Land series. Post-apocalyptic Gotham City would be so cool to see and there's a ton of stuff in that run.

There is a Human Target tv show that was on for 2 seasons from 2010. It was actually a pretty cool series.

It would be neat if they made elseworlds movies where it was multiple Batman stories. One where he's the vampire, one where he is the priest, etcetera but in every single movie it's the same actors.

For Batfamily stuff, kinda out there but would love to see Gotham Academy as a minseries. You'd have to change up the plot and put Damian in it for it to sell well, but the comic was really well received and I think it'd help WB in that kids on bikes mystery genre that netflix seems to dominate. OR they could just buy a teenage mutant ninja turtles script and switch it to be a Robins movie

I personally want to see Deathstroke in a project. Whether it be him as the villain in another project or his own solo project, just something with Deathstroke I think could be really cool.

I'd love (and think James Gunn could absolutely NAIL) a self-contained Tim Drake Robin origin framed as a dark comedy. He goes from idolising Batman as a hero to slowly realising that Bruce is just as sociopathic as their enemies - maybe have Mr Freeze as the antagonist to mirror the cold/dead-inside/family's gone thing that Bruce has going on. We've had Batman movies from Bruce's perspective, we've had Batman movies kind of from the villains' perspective, let's see what Bruce looks like from where his allies are standing

If they do an "Evil Justice League" type thing, or Alternate Universe Justice League, get Brandon Routh to play the "Evil Superman".

Yeah a Human Target show in like a 1960s setting would be great! Other, more obscure characters, that I would like to see would be Manhunter, Doctor Thirteen, and the Creeper. I'd also like to see another attempt done at a Spirit adaptation, in an animated style akin to what Brad Bird was trying to do with the character in the '80s.

Plastic man and the Creeper could be a freakin balls out crazy fest buddy movie, and a show based on Garth Ennis’s Hitman run. Or hell a Resurrection Man show would be legit. That one could have The Spectre and Etrigan the Demon in it (but he BETTER be featured in Swamp Thing)!

What I find weird is that BvS made Jimmy become a CIA agent and die when in Man of Steel was announced and came out, it was also announced that Jimmy was replaced by Jenny Olsen. Jenny was then renamed to Jenny Jurwich because fans hated the idea of Jimmy being replaced. Part of me wonders if the killing of Jimmy was Snyder, saying, "look here is Jimmy, bang he is dead, see this is what I think about Jimmy"

The best thing about the Red Sun comic for me, was the full-circle ending - which they cut from the animated film. I was so sad about that exclusion.
